Rick i´m not a specialist but my guess : lot of DIY modifications, windscreen, "door frames" ,longer body , etc were made to its previous owners in Russia i have noticed that all kind of civilian changes were made to keep them running, appears to be very common origin from Russia in the Gaz 67s because" in good old days" in USSR you had to wait many, many years to get a licence to buy a car it looks that you have not found any data plate, like this (firewall, on the right) ? http://www.uszone.cz/bodyplates/eshop/108-1-Vyrobni-stitky/19-2-GAZ/5/274-GAZ-67-Vyrobni-stitek regards pekka
  8. if the army wanted to warn of ferret-fingers the red color of the square should be also on the inside of the hatch ? i painted my canadian ferret haches surround areas red...looks great ...but too fancy & bling i´m going to repaint it deep bronze green afterwards i also thought that the red square is too good target for a sniper or APC mg in the twilight as Diane wrote is fv 430 yellow due to darkness and urgency also?....looks not bling pekka
  9. my british desert colored mk 1 has red paintings possibly done before shipping (or the intention to send) to the1st Gulf War with SCOTS DG it seems to me that it was not the official painting because the rear hatches don´t have maybe it has been a decoration .."bling-bling "...made by the british crews only i assume that canadians did not paint any ferrets frames but..... maybe i´m wrong pekka
  10. Robin i have noticed that canadian ferrets seem to have individual rear end plates...like finger prints and over the years holes (reg plates and jerry can brackets) are made in the local workshops ...and straps attachments so if you could find pics or etc. info about those ... also it seems that canadians received or borrowed some of the British Army ferrets and maybe Candian Army did no have to return them back due to some reasons ? :=) pekka
  11. Robin lot of DIY and maybe mixed parts ? .. it looks that done for monument use but ..it has triangle hatches ..... early depression stop rail attachment points ...pre 1959 hull ? rear plate has canadian jerry can bracket holes and strap attachments ? maybe this sounds rivet counting but also there is a small plate welded on the front.. you found something interesting pekka

  19. hi Richard my K9 has S of A (School of Artillery ) stickers under the latest paint the School had something to do with Thunderbirds also ? and as the wikipedia says : The production Red Shoes missile was officially named Thunderbird. It entered service in 1959 and equipped 36 and 37 Heavy Air Defence Regiments, Royal Artillery. It was the first British designed and produced missile to go into service with the British Army. pekka

  21. i received interesting information about my K9 got Finnish Army reg number........ SA - 2719 Finland bought or got two K9s and army received them 17.03.1970 vehicles came with decomissioned Thunderbird mk1 missiles ....later both trucks were sold at auction 1980 ( Markku Mäkipirtti ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbird_%28missile%29 Finnish Army - planned purchase of either Thunderbird or Bloodhound was eventually cancelled, but only after deactivated training missiles had been delivered in the late 1960s. These were used in the training role until 1979. is there any info available about Thunderbird missile system´s K9 s ? pekka
