  1. Mk1 5th wheel Antar for sale if you are brave enough. 2mpg solo:confused:
  2. Struggling to find pics, but here is one of a 680pp 200bhp - note the injector pipes are outboard of the exhaust manifold and protected by a heat shield, unlike the standard version. http://www.mvtshropshire.co.uk/scammell%20for%20sale.htm As with with many large UK diesels of that era, the number refers to the cubic capacity in inches.
  3. For one moment I thought you meant White as in the manufacturer... So I will ask again, what is the best diesel ENGINE conversion for a WLF:confused:
  4. Slightly off topic, but what is the best diesel to use in a WLF? Mike
  5. Or even more impressive, the 12L Volvo Penta - 775bhp for leisure use:shake:
  6. Looks like he might be in the scrap trade, although there is no way that chassis/cab is going to liberate 16 tons of clean ferrous scrap as claimed. A very nice Millie 1 GS cargo was sold on ebay about 10 weeks ago for about £2550 if I remember correctly. It was only down the road at Aylesbury but I didn't get a chance to see it.
  7. Cat 175bhp seems very conservative rating for marine use, a C6SFL/R makes 250bhp for automotive use (Scammell Super Constructor) and 210bhp for plant use (Vickers Vigor crawler tractor).
  8. LOL Richard, you beat me to it while I was searching for the picture!
  9. NO! You will destroy the high pressure fuel pump rapidly on most common rail engines if running on pure veg oil. It is also totally pointless as you are effectively evading fuel duty, so you might as well run on red diesel. Mike
  10. Hi Mark Is there a sound technical reason for the fan being mounted back to front; surely it draws air through the rad not blows air forwards:confused: Mike This is how it should look:
  11. As an ex recovery it will have had a very hard life and may well have a twisted chassis, so probably not the best one for a resto project. Factor in the damaged engine and the scrap value and it is a no brainer when you consider what a tidy complete one could be bought for. 18 years ago you could pick up an 'as new' Millie with nominal mileage from BCA for around £1k. Many had a set of 7 brand new tyres but there were few takers and a number were broken up for the engines which were exported to places like Singapore for use in boats. The AEC engine is largely cast iron and would withstand being cooled by salt water for long periods which made an expensive heat exchanger unnecessary.
  12. The semi makes more sense, although it seems to have some form of stern plane above the rudder. The thought of diving in a coal fired sub is beyond belief.
  13. Judging by the smoke stack and ventilator, it is a steam powered submarinski, similar in concept to the K class that the RN had. Mike
  14. Same one - look at the white tape at the bottom of the driver's door.
  15. This one: http://62.128.210.96/transport-mike/mike/militant_series/fv11003/fv11003-intro.html has a tapered jib supposedly rated at 7tons for bridging, while the one at Hunts looks longer and may be the 6ton GS version.
  16. Please tell me that jib folds up for road use, it looks as clumsy as my ol man riding in to WW2 on his hoss with a lance to challenge the German tanks.
  17. See: http://62.128.210.96/transport-mike/mike/militant_series/militant-series.html for a list of the projected Militant family. The slide bed may have been FV11014 and there is a good picture of the Coles crane variant.
  18. Have to agree with you there Andy, but where are they all?? I see a couple of Scammell 8x6 DROPS most days of the week, but have never seen the Foden IMM, despite there supposedly being 400 of them. Are they all abroad on active service?
  19. Thanks for the photos and links martylee, Norway has some stunniing scenery. We went on a cruise in 1997 that took us as far north as Spitzbergen and then followed the coast down to Bergen stopping off in Tromso (where we were told about the museum) and Trondheim.
  20. Needless to say there is a Contractor in Tony's sale.... and a Roti.:yay:
  21. Yes, thats the place, good guys.
  22. Didn't see the show but there is a site just outside Bruntingthorpe that has several genuine turret fitted 432s. I believe there are only about 18 of them and they were based in Germany, possibly Berlin. The cannon is air operated and fires a ping-pong ball filled with paint. Mike
  23. I didn't see the gardener, was he standing behind the Scammell?:-D
