I was based in Willich during the 60's I was driver on SCAMMELL LOW LOADERS. My wife and I attended a reunion in Willich in July. There will be another reunion next year 2016

I served in Aden during 1966 and 1967 We moved up to Oman after that! As to the tires and other things they were in short supply. We used what ever we could get our hands on. Look at Flicker and check on '' Oman '' you will see the Bedford RL Recovery on single sand tyres all round. John Mc Cargo

Hi, I used to drive the Scammell with the yellow sign on the doors. There were two Scammell's I think that they were 20BT41 and 20BT42. Both were at Waterbeach --- 63( Airfields ) R.E. The sign on the doors is Arab Knives crossed swords ( Arab Khanyar's ) The squadron was the Arab Gulf Plant Support Squadron. You can contact me on seanmccargo42@gmail.com Sean

Sankey 1/2 ton trailer. Front of trailer has been modified to take a ball joint. Complete front towing assembly could be rotated 180' degrees for parachute drops. Easier to slip under Land Rover to make space. ( Note the 4 bolts ) located at the end nearer the trailer body. John Mc Cargo

The Scammell was driven by drivers from the Royal Engineers .

Hi. I was based in Waterbeach with 63 ( Airfield ) Construction. Sqn. R.E. We had 2 x 30 ton Ex R.A.F. Scammells. I sure that I have photograph of your Scammell. 51 Squadron was also based there, as was 53 Squadron. There was a person in Ireland asking what was on the doors of the ex R.A.F. Scammells. They are crossed Arab Khanjar knives, just like you see in the movies. 63 Sqn was the Gulf Support Squadron, I was also driver on Scammells in Germany. 83 BL 13 and 83 BL 18. Mike. That is a promise. I also have photographs of a Scammel Grave Yard in Kuwait. They were all ex Kuwait Army and they had been dismantled. Spent 7 years in Ukraine and Russia and have lots of photographs of Missile transporters and other equipment. Regards Sean

PSA -- had two of the RAF SCAMMELS in Aden, they were transferred to 10 Field Sqn R.E. ( Airfields ) and the number of one of the Scammels 21 BT 40 the trailer was 20BT61, later both Scammels were shipped to Sharjar in the Gulf. I have photographs of them been load on board ship. Sean Mc Cargo
