  1. Well if it's drawn by the same bloke as the last one it's Gandalfs hat with triangular holes each side...
  2. Way too subtle for me...not able to play tonight, but maybe it'll still be going till Sunday...:embarrassed:
  3. Well reckon we had all visualized the cross section OK, but it was that cussed precision & linearity that made us all over think it! Referring to Mr Cribbins wouldn't have helped as his was 'big and sorta round' :-D Nice one Clive...: NEXT!
  4. It was the wooden things I meant to collapse, so do the wood pole/slats spread apart and trap the poor enemy's legs?
  5. So wire strung between the posts and wooden pyramids around each one, the wood not being large enough to support a man on one leg would collapse and entangle his legs, so impeding forward progress.
  6. Rain water or even dew collecting funnels each filling a separate container beneath?
  7. I wonder if you've put that in the right place Clive, there's already a thread about buried tanks......
  8. What you do in that case (likewise a vehicle you need to insure for show only use) is to SORN it and tell your insurance company the situation, the more enlightened ones will insure it using a identity number of their own, then it won't show up on any DVLA searches.
  9. One thing we don't have to worry about at W&P is the background knowledge that the arena commentators share with the audience, this and the usual bit of ribbing and banter will hold the audiences attention during any periods of apparent inactivity....keeping that up must be harder work than rigging a display! So maybe for this display a commentary double act like some TV shows have, would mean each one could catch a breath while the other talks about whats happening in another part of the arena. Just a thought.. PS that's commentary double act not comedy!
  10. Nice find! Pity about the fire, but what a boost to your build project. Hope you don't mind but I've enhanced you pic a bit so we can all get a better look..
  11. I've used gmail since it first started and up till now it's been great, but this has really made me want to change, especialy how they are messing up YouTube, like you have to be logged into G+ to read comments and stuff now.. I've been trying to opt out of G+ for a while but had no joy since my settings page does not have that option now, most likely because I have a Youtube account. Even more annoyingly I have to check every time that it hasn't logged me into youtube in my email aqccount name when every G+ user can see my email address! I then have to manually change accounts to hide it, they're just trying to out do Facebook and it won't work as their service is rubbish compared to FB. Not happy about all this but as I do very nicely with the money I get from youtube that sort of stops be deleting everything and leaving... Easily bought I suppose.....
  12. Good stuff Mike, I would be happy to do car winching again but maybe with two Scammells if it fits into your plan. The main thing that may needs to be thought about is placement in the arena for multiple displays, the view for spectators is not great at the new site, with the distance from the barriers and with spectators on only two sides, the action could easily be missed it's so quick, ideally it needs to be done as near to the spectators as safety will allow. In the case of pulling cars apart and most wrecker displays there's a lot of setup to do in the allowed time, if it's dusty and there's a lot of activity that might not be a pleasant job, which could well be wasted effort as the fickle public want instant action.. I'm up for anything and I'm sure something can be sorted out, wrecker displays in the past have been pretty spectacular, Forceful's looking forward to it already!
  13. Nice job and thanks for going into such detail, it's odd how little things add up when restoring old machinery, I wouldn't have had a clue what a feather was before yesterday when I found my WW2 American lathe lead screw didn't have the standard woodruff key, researched it and it's a European type feather key, so must be a replacement.
  14. I was about to say that's one of the early prototypes, that pic is a real find! I'm surprised at how many they had, where many left at Dunkirk? I'll post a link on the Scammell FB page. Bernard
  15. D0 is pushed up the handle which opens the two arms Dx thus opening the fabric pouch, we pick apples with ours..... Is it for retrieving a rugby ball from a scrum?
  16. Think I'll have to reverse Forcefuls rear wheels now I've seen yours....
  17. Back in the '60s there was a Nissen hut on top of the downs near Newhaven, it had straining wires over the top holding it down..it was quite windy on the day we cut them, and it was as if that thing had been desperate to leave for years, it was 200 yards away in seconds!
  18. Didn't some one say DVLA aren't legally allowed to fine you without going through a court? Seem to remember reading that they can only ask for a penalty which you are within your rights to challenge, which I would think you have a good chance of winning in view of the new rules.
  19. Well done Phil, that's encouraging. I've now decided that this project is one too many, I've already broken my own rule of only having one toy at a time by building Rugged Robin, which causes logistical problems and expense, so at least some sort of sanity is prevailing...:-D Thanks for your input folks, hopefully I will be able to help the owner get all this sorted so he can sell it more easily. Bernard
  20. Not to us brickies it doesn't, what looks like Scottish bond on the truck and Flemish bond on the house....sticks out like a sore thumb!
  21. Thanks Brooky, that seems to be the way forward, I'll be proceeding with caution and holding on tight to that buff book! Bernard
  22. Having that happening to me is just what I am worried about Bob....:shake: nice that you eventually got your way, DVLA do have some numpty ideas sometimes ! Also it now appears I had muddled up what the seller had said (mixed up the numbers) and the number that is in the DVLA data base is the one belonging to another project car he has, the one I am buying only has the buff old style log book... Bernard
  23. Thanks, I just realized that if it appears on the DVLA data base it must have a V5 somewhere, just that the last owner thinks it never did...me thinks I must interrogate him further..
  24. What problems am I likely to come across if I apply for historic status for a car that I only have the old buff logbook for? The number comes up OK on the DVLA as untaxed since 1985. Do I just send in the logbook for updating or is it not that simple? Would love to hear that someone who has done this recently with no hassles, I'm reluctant to send anything off until I am happy the car wont have to be inspected or summat as it's in bits Bernard
