  1. Not yet, but the book is on my never ending "list" of things to read. We hope to equip the Saracen with the correct bits, and have it as an example of "been delivered to the lines about a week ago" look to it, so prety much rebuild fresh, but with the proper unit insignia and such installed. I have found some research showing that some of the ex-Libyan Saracens were delivered to NI still in the Tan / Stone paint, and were used there until there were painted. We know that ours was destined for export originally as a Mk 3, then painted BBG, and then up-armored after, re-painted BBG, and had Kremlin 2 plates mounted, then finally painted in IR Green...so, yes, lots of possibilities to explore thanks for the book suggestion! Nick
  2. Tracer with ball...walk them on to the target :-) ...only downside...tracer works both ways.... Cheers Nick
  3. Hi Steve, Ottawa is a bit warmer, but I feel your pain! the UK for many years imported Tractors such as David Brown and Cockshutts, (I'm grew up on a farm, and the next farm over had Diesel David Browns), anyway, these had some sort of Ether start system, so its possible that a vintage tractor supply store might be able to help out? Cheers Nick CWC Ottawa, Canada
  4. From one "Cold War Collection" to another, best wishes for the future ! Nick Cold War Collection Canada (Our Official Name is the "Cold War Historic Vehicle Society"...if any one is keeping tabs on such things!)

  6. Some 56 details below "The land component, meanwhile, was organised in four newly created units reflecting the functional nature of the Canadian commitment: 56 Canadian Signal Squadron, 56 Canadian Transport Company, 56 Canadian Infantry Workshop and Canadian Base Units, Middle East. Subsequently, when it was found that UNEF lacked a light reconnaissance capability, 56 Canadian Recce Squadron, formed largely from Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) and The Royal Canadian Dragoons, was created and despatched under the designation RAPID STEP 3. It deployed to the Middle East in March 1957, and with its arrival the strength of CANUNEF stood at 1007, all ranks. Its initial task was to occupy a buffer zone between the Egyptian Army and the Anglo-French forces waiting to withdraw. The first to enter this zone were engineers who, from 1 December 1956, began the risky job of clearing mines. Once the foreign forces had withdrawn from Egypt, the main tasks of the Canadians were to conduct reconnaissance, monitor the armistice line, investigate violations and maintain a “UN” presence. 115 ATU meanwhile conducted aerial reconnaissance flights, resupplied UNEF troops, and transported UNEF senior personnel to meetings in Egypt and Israel." 8. We were in the midst of changing the front heater motor, when we found a hand written tag...pics below, any ideas on the acronym?? the second one would be the vehicle ident, which we were missing up until now, so its a good find, the TGHQ bit...well I assume its someones Head quarters assigned Bv....c Cheers Nick CWC Canada
  9. Agreed, I painted my friend's and Bosnia War comrades name on a vehicle that we were doing up. Oddly, it was his own regiment that had us doing the work on one of their historic vehicles, long after he was killed. I'm very sorry for you loss. Tributes are quite personal, and only the person giving tribute, really, can decide whats best. Brian has been gone now for many years, but I keep fond memories close of our days in service. To Brian, 2Lt. RCD (D) Sqd. , died shortly after returning from Roto 3 Bosnia, from injuries received, Cheers, my brother. Nick, 10th TAG, RCAF CWC Canada

As a Charitable Foundation, part of our mandate is to support others that are helping preserve vehicles of the era. if you have any questions about where to find parts, servicing, maintence, or require copies of manuals to help with your work, please let us know. Our website is still under development, but we can be reached at the following e-mail; pisaacs@starmotors.ca Cheers Paul and Nick CWC Canada
  14. A point of Clarification if you don't mind? The T-34, you are talking about the T-34 not the T-34/85. Lots of the /85 about. I have interest in the Russian equipment, as My Opa accounted for more than a few '34's with his Stug III thanks Nick CWC Canada
  15. Hi Terry, most of the rust issues occured in the plates to the left of the turret, the turret was fairly water tight between the plates, so there was no binding. We did have problems closing the left forward and center gun ports, but once the plate was repaired, then this issue went away. Basically, to get at the rust issue, we used a hand cutting wheel to remove the outer plates, shot blasted the inside / outside of both plates, red oxide coated same, then re-welded. before... outer plate removed (note original paint under out skin)
  16. This is something that we deal with regularly. Although our resto's are not for the sale market, we do try and preserve what we can during a restoration. That being said, given the point of the work, I would go for the full new paint, but have a very good album and photo dossier to be sold with the vehicle so that the buyer has an idea of the providence of the truck. just my 2 cents... nice job by the way. looks like a proper job you are doing Cheers Nick CWC Canada
  17. I work, full time restoring MV's, but in my spare time, build hot rod bikes and cars, So I very much like this use of a B-80 ! Any mods to gain HP? or is it stock? Thanks for the Pic Nick CWC Canada
