  1. Speaking of this, Here are two markings off of our Belgian Scorpion, 65068 (quite a low hull number!) Anyone have any thoughts on these ? 12 Recce , on the driver side front Gearbox cover, as well as on Drivers side stowage bin, "080" in black square, in usual location many thanks Nick
  2. Nicly done! Here is another ex-Belgian Scorpion in Canada, done up as a Belgian Scopion. Only changes were a paint refresh on the markings, and we added a NOS Gearbox and generally cleaned up the engine bay. We found lots pencil writing on the firewall in the drivers position, seems that a long ago driver had a thing for a girl named Tamara :-) if anyone wants engine bay pics, we'd be happy to post Cheers Nick CWC
  3. Hello All, I understand that there is an air recharge proceedure for the recoil system for the L23 76mm LV main gun on the CVRT Scorpion, does anyone have this proceedure ? Cheers Nick Cold War Collection (Canada)
  4. Here are a couple of pictures, One, the cab inside, and the second, the trubo unit with the S/S header pipe
  5. It is insulated, so a little bit better, but the noise does tend to resonate through the cab section. (still pretty loud, but not as bad as the canvas top) What we do while driving, is to use Helicopter headsets (Sigtronics, model S-20) with a live voice activated mike. We also can run a cable out to our ground guide while backing the Goat, or other vehicles. I used to fly Tactical Helo, years ago, so I'm used to my Flight Engineers outside the CH-47 being able to communicate with me, and find that the system translates to what we do quite nicely
  6. Thanks, we felt that it was a seldom seen version. We do have the full kit for the rear, with the heaters and insulated top. That's a project that should wrap up over the next couple of months, we'll post interior pics once completed. The only mod on the vehicle at this point is a turbo system with a stainless exhaust, which tends to boost the power on the 2 stroke Diesel quite nicely. Its a "hidden' change, so most folks don't know it's there.
  7. Hello All, here is a picture of our main shop floor, there are a few vehicles not shown, such as the Bv's 202, and 206, but this is the bulk of the collection. The Saracen is hiding in the restoration side Cheers Nick The Cold War Collection (Canada)
  8. Aiming for Feb. 2014, and yes, the Stolly is up next as the next "major service" we are pleased that at long last, we have got power to the turret of the CVRT Scorpion this week! (dead short inside the RBJ to hull connector plug end, inside the green insulation) full power to all systems :-)
  9. Our 1970 Mk. 6 had a serious issue with water between the original hull, and the up-armour, so we were compelled to remove potions of the add-on on the left side upper hull, and left side roof for weld repair. The sections were removed, shot blasted along with the hull, and the welded back on. the third picture is of the roof with the add-on removed, showing the orginal hull plate, note the two paint colours, tan, then Bronze Green (and rust....lots of rust!!)
  10. A couple of early pics. Hull being media blasted (baking soda) the second, slowly adding interior parts. The drive shafts are still in primer, and the green bits are dust covers that are over open fluid ports. The steering line is in just to get a rough fit, it will then be bent to shape, and replicated with new material. Its an extensive strip out, as one can see
  11. Depends. how long is a piece of string? In all seriousness, it will depend on how "dead" is is dead. It could be worth the value of scrap only, really, . So, a bit more detail might help. Cheers Nick Cold War Collection, Ottawa, Canada
  12. A number are in storage in California, after being used for various movies and TV over the past few years. These may be available from the vehicle yards of some of the studios. Many have been modified to various degrees as well, so that may be a plus, a minus, depending on what was done to them. Robin is quite right, they do deteriorate quickly if not looked after, and are quite complex machines. When de-mobed, there were quite a few around (in the UK) and being an interesting vehicle, many ended up in the collectors market in various countries. Many owners found that the maintence hours per driving hour was a vastly uneven sum, and that contributes to low prices. Great driving machines, yes, but they do need care and attention more than a jeep! We have one here in the collection, runs well, a joy to drive, but we are still hunting down the odd hyd. leak. One more thing, check if this class of vehicle is ok for your state as a "normal" truck, some juristictions declare this as an "oversize" truck by its width (barely), but, to be safe, if you find one and intend to drive it on the road, best check your local regs. Cheers Nick The Cold War Collection, Ottawa (slightly north of Robin !)
  13. One of two? I was not aware of another one close by! That's quite interesting. Yes, the whole project is being logged and photographed extensively, and we will be posting a few pictures as we go, but we are developing a "folder" with restoration notes with the correct pictures, which will be produced towards the end of the project. The reasons for this is basically time. Being a 2 man show, with only one dedicated full time on the resto, its tough to actually get time to post and run a proper blog. I remind myself as I write that we have the Scopion power pack / gearbox swap to post still.... I get a shot of her before she goes down the road for blasting and post it. Cheers Nick
  14. Hello All, Our Mk 6 is now fully cleared out of all parts, including all doors and port covers, with just the outer running gear left on so we can move it to the blasters next week. We will be using a soda blast technique, as we can then leave the rubber drive covers on. We did have to remove a large section of the outer hull add-on armour, above (on the roof) and aft of the Left escape hatch, as water had caused rust between the two layers of steel, and caused some of the welds to snap, as well as push out enough that the center gun port on the left side could not close. Cut carefully, we removed the rusted sections and exposed a large section which included much of the orginal two paint colours, on the edges of the rusted area, which is badly pitted. Water had entered from the weld around the turret plate, and over the years, flowed down inside the steel, all the way to the "belt" between the upper and lower hull sections The orginal paint was spayed gloss sand , and painted on , by brush, on top of the sand, is British Bronze Green . So, next step. after blasting, and red oxide, will be replacing the sections of hull. We did find a serial number, as above 603-70-853. but have no idea where to locate further information about this vehicle, or service history, so if anyone has any ideas, it would be most helpful. Kindest Regards Nick The Cold War Collection Ottawa Canada

  18. Good Morining everyone. It was high time that we joined this wonderful site, so here we are. We are a private collection locted in Ottawa, Canada, and are well on the way to become a full fledged museum. We have a focus on Cold War era vehicles and artifacts from many nations, and maintain a large hangar / workspace for display and restoration. We will primarly focus on taking the vehicles out into the public sphere so we may share the history of them with a large number of people. Currently we are in the process of a full hull strip out restoration of a Mk 6 Alvis Saracen, which is being extensivly documented by photo and field notes. We intend to post a series of articles on the restoration as it progesses, as to assist others, we will also, be asking for help with parts, as they are scarce over here, to say the least Our Collection includes the following at this time; CVR(T) Scorpion, Belgian. Volvo Sugga M-35 w/ trailer Gamma Goat Bv -202 Bv -206 Mk. 3 Supacat w/ trailer Mk 2/3 Ferret Hummvee Alvis Stalwart w / crane Alvis Mk 6 Saracen RVC
