  1. Yes, Bone stock German Army 1990 GD 250 Wolf, 3 surf boards on top...on the 37 Highway British Columbia, Canada, just noth of Bell 2 Lodge. 100km/ h...in a 70 km/h zone ...for fun, look on the map where that is :-) I'll see if I can find a picture :-) Nick CWC Canada
  2. Hi Robin, we hope to, and are looking at options for the "roll out" later this summer. The graphics are good, but when we expand that image up to the size we need, it becomes too "Pixelated", we need at a minimum 300 dpi to have out transfer decal folks make a copy, and this is only at 200 dpi, so the search will have to continue to find an image to work from. I might send the image to a computer fellow to see if he can play with it a bit. cheers Nick
  3. Hi everybody, As we bring the restoration of our Saracen to a close, we are doing up the final markings. We have decided to honour one of the most decorated units in the British Army, the 321st EOD. We have the bulk of the markings set up, but we need a high resoloution picture of the the "Felix" rectangular insignia to apply to the hull. If anyone has a scanned picture or high res. example, would it be possible to get a copy sent along to us? Many thanks Nick CWC Canada
  4. Ah! I see the world now knows about my Mk.1 carb. fine adjustment tool :nut:
  5. Final Assy. underway with new floor, seats and engine in; and yes, the floor will be soda blasted and painted....not in for the "pimped out" look :-)
  6. Well....this is a "I know better" story that I'd thought I'd share. I'm very pleased that I am able to use my right index finger to type this message this morning, after almost losing it on Saturday night here in the CWC Hangar. The story, after a long two days of moving vehicles to a local Bunker show, we (my good Friend Robin Craig and I) had just parked the Mk 2/3 Ferret away, and I was dismounting. I always have a method of getting up and down from armor, always use the same way each time to avoid accidents, and teach my drivers to develop the same method. In this case, my normal way is to mount and dismount from the rear right side, forward the exhaust, always with 3 points of contact... Saturday, The Ferret was the last to go in, and fatigue had set in, it was late and I cut a corner, getting out of the turret, and moving foward. I braced my right hand on the open right side port to use it to slide down when the lock released...I'm not sure how I avoided amputation, as I felt the hatch pinch my finger between the hull, but I managed to get clear, and Robin and both new instantly how close I was to a bad injury, I'm very glad he was there to see that happen, as it was a strong wake up call about how we need to be vigilant at all times, even when the last engine is turned off for the day. So, yes, this is a "be safe out there" message from someone who knows how lucky he was ! Cheers Nick CWC Canada
  7. I was a solid Trumpet fan for years...pic of my old one It now lives in Toronto (yes, I know, one I should have held on to...spent enough rebuilding her, thats for sure!!)...now, If I can just find a decent Norton Big 4:D But this one is keeping me busy right now you coming out to the Bunker this weekend? I think you have a note sent to miss work :-)
  8. Perfect, that cover 99% of it!! There is a fitting for an oil line that is 180 degrees or so opposite the oil drain line fitting, do you know what feeds into that? many thanks Nick
  9. Silly me... I took pictures of almost everything in the rebuild of the saracen, expect for details of the lines that come off the hyd./ air pump. anyone have a good picture or can explain where the lines go? in particular, the two fittings on the top of the compressor (where do those lines go to and detail of the "in" line on the front of the Hyd. pump? many thanks Nick
  10. Although not orginal, would you consider a mod to the intake system? Case in point, we have a twing carb set up (SU) on our Volvo Bv 202, and single carb w/ manifolds as a kit exist out there as an upgrade, might be worth poking around for something like this if you find the twin SU set up a problem. For rebuild and set up, I can suggest Len at Richmond Motorsports, he has all the equipment to set up and balance these carbs (613) 838-9996 cheers Nick
  11. "two wheeled device"??? you didn't strike me as a Vespa man!
  12. Just saw this, great news about the trailer project Robin! To remove paint for sensitive stuff, we have found that soda blasting works very well, you can even "tune" it so you can take one layer at a time in most cases, (helpfull for finding markings and such)
  13. B-80 Top End going back on! Oh, for those contemplating this....the Intake Valve Train is in two halves, so be sure to secure before removal...lest things fly in both directions. You can see the new # 7 Piston clearly in the first picture, Many thanks to William Bannister for the Parts (Piston, Mk. 3 Rebuild Kit) sent to us here in Canada in record time!!
  14. Details, yes, photos, no...it was one of those jobs that once you get into, well, sometimes it gets done and its over before you realize. So, Glass blocks; Basically, I had impact marks on the outside of three of them, and one, both sides. ...plus rust! I ground off one corner of the steel box, and peeled back the steel off the glass, hard to do, as its bonded with a rubber material. Once off, I removed all this rubber with a blade. You will find that there are several layers of glass, about 1/2 inch thick, and on the outside facing pane, a thin glass pane, about 1/8 inch thick. On one block, I removed this (it was bonded to the rest of the block by two sided adhesive clear film. Once this thin pane was taken off, the block looked clear On the other blocks, there was more damage, with the outer facing 1/2 panes smashed, working slowly, I managed to separate the broken panes from the rest of the block, cleaned the face, and replaced with a new 1/2 glass pane made locally to match the dimentions of the original. One could do all the panes this way, to remove any age realted conditions, but given the work, you could lay up a new one faster with new glass panes and clear adhesive film. For the steel, I took the old part to a fabricator, and had him bend up strips in a the box shape, used black silicon to replicate the rubber that was on the block, and once dried, lightly clamped the block and tack welded the edge of the new "box" take you time welding, just a few tacks, cool down and repeat. Grind smooth when finished. fun project! cheers Nick
  15. A couple of more shots, Fuel tank in, doors, glass and shutters. Managed to rebuild the Armoured Glass blocks...that was a whole new challenge! Cheers Nick CWC Canada
  16. Sad that... Paul and I are looking forward to the resto of 91 ET 36 Mk 2 w/ crane as soon as the present task of the Saracen is clear, we will be doing the same treatment with the Stolly as her stable mate, so BBG circa 1971. And after what seems like years chasing a hydrualic leak, it was finally found in the steering system! For those contemplating how to find oil leaks in really tight places (like EVERYWHERE in a Stolly) Flouresent Dye helped us out, basically clear out the leaks, add oil and Dye, run, use black light and bingo! (thankfully, we are attached to a Benz garage, and one of the young techs who uses this all the time, suggested it!) cheers Nick
  17. Hi, I agree with the ball splitter, but it wil haveto be an industrial size. Careful with the spring that is underneath the rubber jacket that covers the taper. To remove ours, I used heat as well, but if the engine is in, you might want to place some heat shields around the sensitve bits cheers and good luck Nick CWC Canada
  18. Oh, one important detail, the Piston / rings are of STD. SIZE thanks Nick
  19. Hi everyone, We are in need, quite quickly, of a Piston with rings for a B-80 Mk3 A / L (Engine # 2086) , just one, for #7 . If anyone can provide a stockist who might have one, please let us know right away. Engine installation progess has stalled, so to speak ! many thanks Nick CWC Canada
  20. Well, our Rebuilt B-80 arrived, and it will require a bit more prep work than we thought, as # 7 spark plug had been removed sometime in the deep dark past, and with a bore scope, well, we see rust  so, we need to pull the head, and that will require us finding a head gasket right away...so, anyone know of a source? and are there different grades of quality on the market that we should be aware of ? as well, any Torque settings that have been used ? other than that, a quick Bell Housing change and a freshen up, and in it goes! Cheers Nick CWC Canada
