  1. Thanks for that, I do have the deactivation certificate as well. Any interest please PM me.
  2. I have a nice early spec SLR which I bought when I was going to show my Lightweight Land Rover, well that and it brought back happy memories I am thinking of selling it but am struggling to come up with a realistic fair price to ask. Any ideas/offers guys ? VCR applies.
  3. Welcome along Andrew any free samples from work :-D
  4. I take it you don't like jeeps then :-D however they DO get stolen all the time, if I fit a tracker and other security devices I have taken "reasonable care" to prevent that happening, and I would be shouting from the rooftops if the police refused to attempt to recover it using the tracker. Round here plant and farm machinery are often recovered BECAUSE of trackers. Jeeps like Land Rovers are by their very nature easy to disguise and ARE soon disposed of either in parts or abroad. Any second hand parts we buy have come from somewhere and they could easily be from a stolen vehicle. As anyone knows people have gone to huge lengths to steal jeeps removing hedges, garden walls other vehicles etc. No vehicle is 100% safe but as owners we have to take as many precautions as possible. As for traders not being involved I am sure the major companies are honest however there will be small part time traders who will buy second hand parts no questions asked. To be honest how would they know where for example a second hand axle came from ? Do I feel vulnerable parking my jeep ? Too bloody right I do because YOU may not like jeeps but someone out there certainly will. :-(
  5. Thanks everyone for the advice so far :-)
  6. Thanks Gordon that sounds ideal, when the jeeps here it is in an alarmed garage and connected to an intelligent charger 24/7 so if it was stolen God forbid the battery would be fully charged hopefully long enough for the jeep to be found. I get a bit jumpy at shows when I am away from the jeep and didn't like being forced to park at the showground at Pickering if we wanted to go into the town during the Railway at War weekend. A jeep was stolen from the showground the first year they made people park there I believe. I will certainly mention you when I contact them, thanks :-D
  7. Has anyone here fitted a tracker to their MV ? I am seriously considering fitting one to my GPW but am unsure of the options especially as it is still on its original 6v system. I have also considered the SmartWater marking system but of course the jeep has to turn up first before that is of use. I take all the usual precautions like hidden kill switch, locks on pedals etc but think a tracker may be the safest. I have invested a lot of money in my pride and joy and want to protect it the best way possible. Other people have suggested a hidden mobile phone but how do I keep it charged and how would it work ? Any suggestions ? :-)
  8. We used to go EVERY year it was brilliant, however once they moved the vehicle parade to the Sunday and changed the whole atmosphere of the event we stopped going. It has become apparent that we are not really welcome but a necessary evil, the showground security was pretty lax, we were herded like sheep onto buses because our fully road legal vehicles were not allowed into town, and all in all NOT a pleasant experience. The NYMR and the town LOVE the money generated but actually appear to despise the people attending. We now attend Woodhall Spa war weekend, brilliant, friendly and like Pickering used to be. I believe Pickering will gradually die a death if the organisers refuse to listen to the people attending, I along with many others voiced our concern after the first "new format" weekend but were basically told like it or lump it, well the numbers among us not going show we don't like it.
  9. That sounds ideal Tony, thank you any idea where from ? If not no doubt Google will turn something up :thanx:
  10. Can anyone advise me please ? I have just bought an extremely nice one family owned 1936 Ford Model Y. It is in virtually unmarked original condition. However I want to use it for 40's events and realise it would have probably had white painted edges to the wings and bumper ends due to blackout restrictions, my problem is I don't want to permanently paint it as I feel it would ruin its originality. Anyone have any ideas of marking ie. magnetic tape or a paint that is easily removed without damage to the underlying paint ? I know you can "wrap" entire cars could this be used on just the wing edges ? Any ideas guys ?
  11. I use Castrol Lead Replacement additive in all my classics but do so every other fill up, this along with the so called "lead memory" should protect against valve seat regression I have not tried an additive to prevent stale fuel but have had problems in the past so will certainly give it a go this winter.
