  1. Spend £100 on any old banger and keep the rest for fuel, insurance road tax, garage bills......Should keep you going with personal transport for a couple of years......
  2. Why they don't serve Molotovs in a cocktail bar?
  3. Why you are allowed to drive over a sleeping Policeman, but you can't drive over one who has just fallen off the pavement....
  4. Why you would want to dye a kitten pink?
  5. I think it might be the other way round....Getting one within width is only a matter of re-routing the Exhaust. Early FV432 complied with width. The fact that FV432 series, with a few in service exceptions, do not comply with regulations regarding braking standards is in my opinion more of a problem to get around. The whole Braking system needs re-designing to give a secondary braking system totally independent from the existing single circuit. The new design would have to providea secondary service braking system providing adequate braking, that can be still be applied in a controlled manner, and released gradually should the primary circuit fail. Unless the braking system is re worked they cannot comply with regs and their use is therefore illegal. Whether anybody cares or not is a matter of debate. What is certain that having a FV432 road registered does not make it legal to use on the road. A vehicle must comply fully with Construction and Use regulations, and FV432 does not. But if you are running a FV432 limo and your brakes fail and you drive through/ over a Renault Clio killing everybody on board, your brakes will be examined and found not to comply and I suggest the trouble you will be in is not worth any profit you might make from inviting drunks to puke up in the back of your vehicle.....
  6. FV432 are too wide to comply with Construction and use regs, and as such it is illegal to drive them on public roads. Similarly they do not comply with Braking standards requirements in particular the need for a secondary braking system. Dept of Transport has confirmed that any that have been road registered in the past have been registered in error, and any that any that have been road registered are being driven on British public roads are breaking Construction and Use regulations and such use is therefore illegal. Since Fv432 does not comply with aspects of Construction and use regs, it has no place being used on the public road by anybody but the Government's Armed Forces, who have permission from Secretary of State to use them in this way. A Civilian operator cannot get that permission. I can PM you the Dept Of Transports reply to my query if you want to see the full text of their official response.
  7. According to Wiki.... Problems with the electrical systems in the Warrior IFV have caused the weapon to fire without warning several times, resulting in the army issuing a safety notice. In at least one incident this has resulted in injury to a British soldier and in others injuries to civilians. The MoD denied the problem initially. Additionally, the Challenger 2 mounting of the weapon cannot be accurately aimed using the main sight below a minimum range of 200 metres, which has led to at least one death from "friendly fire".

  14. Well that goes for Crusader as well.....
  15. Scammell went into Leyland in 1955 and AEC not until 1962. AEC retained autonomy of design and manufacture for some time, so in the 60's AEC were still Rolls Royce quality........
  16. Anything AEC. AEC were the Rolls Royce of Commercial vehicles. Forget Scammell... twenty years behind the times, Blacksmith engineering and Schoolboy designs.....
  17. Unfortunately The P.C. Brigade might take offence at the term "boy" From Wiki...Boy.....Race Historically, in countries such as the U.S. and South Africa, "boy" was not only a 'neutral' term for domestics but also used as a disparaging racist insult towards men of colour (especially of African descent), recalling their subservient status even after the 20th century legal emancipation (from slavery, evolved to race segregation, viz. Apartheid) and alleged infantility, and many still consider it offensive in that context to this day since it denotes that men of colour (especially of African descent) are less than men or no better than an animal. For example a simple command for a dog would be, "Come here boy!"
  18. Because Nigger was the code word to be given by the Aircrews, to indicate a breach of a dam, so that those back in England knew the state of the raid. The Dog was seen as a squadron Mascot and hence a bit of a lucky charm, so Nigger getting run over and killed a few hours before the raid would have been very demoralising to all the crews, and the decision to bear his grief alone and not share his loss with anyone else was part of Gibson's character that is important to portraying him as a person.... The fact that the code word "Nigger" was sent by Morse code, not by plain voice was one of the mistakes in the first film. Had the original film been technically accurate then he name of the dog wouldn't have mattered......well not to many because percentage wise a very small number of viewers would have known morse, and thereby been offended. I expect the re=make will also incorrectly use voice radio when it should be Morse code.....and this is the issue.
  19. NFU declined to quote me for the Eager Beaver.....
