  1. Change one ignition component at a time, and check it still runs after each operation!
  2. Best tip I know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Followed by Always use the right tool for the job.
  3. Could the Tractor unit be an Atkinson Venturer?
  4. I know it hasn't got the usual ARV winch rollers, but I am wondering if this is based on an ARV not a gun tank.
  5. Catching bullets between your teeth, blindfolded works for me.
  6. I was just trying to point out the bag catches neither the Bullet nor the cartridge, but rather it catches the the cartridge case. A cartridge is a complete round comprising the cartridge case, the bullet, the powder (or charge) and the primer. Maybe I care too much about correct use of the English language.....
  7. On a vehicle whose date of first use is on or before 1.1.72, there is no requirement as to position. A vehicle which was first used after this date, that is not an Agricultural vehicle, an industrial tractor or engineering plant, cannot have the lamps mounted in a position where the distance from the outside edge of the lamp to the edge of the body exceeds 400mm. This CVR(T) may be okay but to me it looks like more than 400mm from the edge of the lamp to the edge of the bodywork.
  8. Interesting to see this CVR(T) is road registered but its headlights have not been repositioned to comply with Road vehicle Lighting Regulations. Seems to make a mockery of one of the stated reasons DLVA gave for not registering a Stormer, recently....
  9. Surely the United Nations was a post war organisation? If founded in 1945 how did they time travel back to 1943???(I haven't watched the Vid, which was an interminable time to load and I got fed up waiting.)...maybe there is an answer to my question in the vid but from your title something is wrong, surely. The precursor of United Nations during WW2 was the League of Nations......
  10. Very unlikely, they had no info on my Explorer. There are big gaps in time periods for which they have record cards. Unless the Explorer was shed very late I doubt they will have a record card for it. The trouble is the search fee (which I think it is £20) is non refundable if they don't have a card or any info for your Explorer. It may be worth a try, you never know. Let us know how you get on.... They hold all records against Military registration. The search will be done against the military registration, this is all they need. They cannot work from Chassis number, make, model build date etc,
  11. Kevlar was just a joke, to point out the daftness of trying to catch Bullets.....If Kevlar bags were to be used it would beat catching bullets blindfolded between your teeth, which is the only other way of catching bullets I know of!
  12. The bags for catching the CARTRIDGE CASES, are quite common, the ones for catching the BULLETS are rarer because they are presumably a lot stronger (made out of Kevlar??)
  13. Calling it a fake seems a bit harsh, Call it a copy, a lookalike or a reproduction yes, but surely a fake is something deliberately made to sell to an unsuspecting pundit knowing it is not what it purports to be. Making a film prop with the intention of taking film footage at a reasonable cost, does not seem to me the same as attempting fraud.
  14. Talks I had with DfT made it clear DfT wanted to keep annual testing and were categorically against longer period between tests, even for vehicles doing low mileage. They argue that vehicles doing low milage are more likely to suffer corrosion and perishing and that annual testing was required for all vehicles.
  15. Not just the Ferret, The series 1 Land-Rovers were infamous for icing in the carb.....
  16. To clarify, true for children under three, not correct for children over the age of three.. http://www.dft.gov.uk/think/focusareas/children/childincar?page=Overview&whoareyou_id= Quote from overview...." 4) In older vehicles with no rear seat belts. In this case, children 3 years and over may travel unrestrained." unquote
  17. You could well be correct regarding a child under three. AA seem to agree with you. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/child_safety/seatbelts.html Regarding your link, http://www.dft.gov.uk/think/focusareas/children/childincar?page=FAQ see point 13. Quote Frequently asked question 13"13. What do I do if my vehicle - - has no seat belts, or no rear seat belts? If a vehicle has no seat belts - if it's a classic car, for example - a child aged 3 years and over is allowed to travel in a rear seat unrestrained. A child under 3 years old may not travel in cars, vans or goods vehicles which do not have seat belts."unquote So yes there is a probelm with Child under three but a kid over the age of three can ride in a pre 1965 Jeep or Land Rover not fitted with belts.
  18. You are asking a bit much of the Pallet Truck!!
  19. Reg 18 and Schedules 1 and 17 Road vehicles Lighting regs 1989. Motor vehicle first used before 1.4.1986 or trailer first use pre 1. 10 1985 require two side reflectors per side only. Rearmost side reflector must be a maximum of 1000mm from the rear of the vehicle, at a height between 350mm and 1500mm. The other side reflector must be towards centre of vehicle. All side Reflectors must have approval marks, and be Amber although the rearmost reflector (if within 1000mm of rear of vehicle) can be red. Reflectors must be vertical, face squarely to the side, and cannot be triangular. Exempted from these requirements:- Vehicles whose speed does not exceed 25MPH. Goods Vehicle length not exceeding 6m and first used on or after 1.4 1986 or length not exceeding 8m and first used before 1.4.86 Passenger vehicles Incomplete vehicles for completion storage or display Excavator (special Types) Mobile Crane/ Engineering Plant. It is open to argument if an Explorer is a goods vehicle. Only goods vehicles pre April 86 are excepted. If it is a Locomotive, or a recovery vehicle it may not be excepted.
  20. Anyone got a penknife I can borrow? I think there's something stuck in the tyre tread The "AutoGlass" technician was determined to force in the rear window somehow or other....
  21. And those look like Lockheed Hudsons, A far more successful plane. Oh and it is Singapore.
  22. There are exceptions from Children needing to either wear an appropriate seat belt or even the need to wear any seat belt. Motor Vehicles (wearing of seat belts) Regs 1993 and section 15 Road Traffic Act 1988 Exceptions to Sections 15(3) include (there are others but I don't think they are particularly relevant... ) A large child is excepted in a motor vehicle "if no appropriate seat belt is available in the rear" Exception to S15 (3A) A child "if no appropriate seat belt is available in the front of the vehicle". This reads to me as if the vehicle is excepted having seat belts fitted by virtue of its date of first use, then a child can be carried not wearing a seat belt. If I am wrong, could someone point out to me why my interpretation is incorrect. Seat belts are not required in Locomotives and Motor tractors. It appears to me that children carried in these classes are excepted from wearing Belts http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1993/176/regulation/9/made The exceptions are here. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1993/176/regulation/10/made where in particular see Quote regs" (2) The prohibition in section 15(3) of the Act does not apply in relation to a small child in a passenger car if no appropriate seat belt is available for him in the front or in the rear of the vehicle. (3) The prohibition in section 15(3) of the Act does not apply in relation to a small child in a vehicle other than a passenger car if no appropriate seat belt is available for him in the rear of the vehicle. (4) The prohibition in section 15(3) of the Act does not apply in relation to a large child in any vehicle if no appropriate seat belt is available for him in the rear of the vehicle. (5) The prohibition in section 15(3A) of the Act does not apply in relation to a child if no appropriate seat belt is available for him in the front of the vehicle. " unquote Again it sound like Traffic Coppers only knowing the simple basics, and not knowing the totality of the exceptions. I cannot see that seat belts are required for Children in pre 1965 Jeeps and Land-rovers or 1930's vintage cars, any Motor tractor or Locomotive that do not have seat belts fitted. The law is certainly stupid as it relates to children wearing seat belts. Children of any age can be carried without seat belts in a Police car, or Emergency Services vehicle. (they never have crashes do they!)
  23. Brewster Buffalo, totally outclassed by the jap aircraft and all shot out of the sky in no time.
