  1. 2. GMC's were never known as Deuce & Half's during the war - this was a Korean/Vietnam period term? From all that I know this #2 is true , the terms I have read that were used during WWII were ...6 By or 6 By 6......Jimmy or GMC....
  2. Thank You very much for the translation , a very interesting story.

  8. the SIZE of the Tubes and those Insulators !!!! Looks like some serious voltages were being used.......seems to me the equipment at least looks like it could have have been more lethal to the operator than any result from the poor quality of the signal it was trying to transmit.
  9. Great that you found surviving example's !!! and a very good thing you had your camera along for some very good shots........ Could you ,or someone on the Forum do the honors and translate the information from Swedish to English :dunno:
  10. I know of others that I have read about who are also aircraft crash site hunters ,They told of still finding small pieces of these aircraft as this gentleman spoke of . I knew there had been accidents but not the numbers of lives lost as this article tell's of . The number of allied aircraft lost over there in Britain has been in a recent issue of the Smithsonian's Air and Space" magazine Does anyone else recall seeing the story? Since I read a number of magazines it could easily have been in a different one , sources tend to blend together , but the stories are not forgotten . (perhaps it was up in Scotland , I recall it being a high ridge that had 10 or more crash site along it miles out in barren land there was a lake as well )
  11. Once past the holiday's and the following bills of said holiday's I may add it to my collection . Perhaps others will beat me to it and give their opinion. I d like to learn about those aircraft and their crews.
  12. Very Nice a very good looking GMC!
  13. I think there was an article done on this in "Wheels and Tracks"? that it was left for a number of years before being dismantaled if I recall . Interesting colorized photo never saw that before.
  14. I had' not noticed the track conversion on the Land Rover earlier, I do have a couple of you-tube clips of LR 's on tracks here's one of the links http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OznC9-Kflo8
  15. Isn't it Cute! I wonder what it wants to be when it grows up ! Just kidding it is a jewel and I m sure very much treasured by its owner .
  16. Both of them look well cared for  and great you have inside storage so those with sticky fingers can't remove any hard to replace items !
  17. What ever the radio is its barely portable ! ye gads it fill's the back of the Dodge and I bet its range wasn't in proportion to it's size ? I d also bet that neither the drive or passenger liked that antenna mount given the spare is mounted in the drivers way that both had to enter and exit past that sharp corner!
  18. on the Charron I have these details Charron, Girardot et Voigt (C.G.V.) 1903 first fully AC in France, disc wheels, box hull, bevel front,rear-mounted turret, carried troughs to cross obstacles, several sold to Russia. detail's from the Encyclopedia of Armoured Cars.
  19. All one can hope then is for someone to have sticky fingers and very quietly save as much as possable . Yes your right it's Criminal for such a rare and valuable resource to be other wise lost for Ever!!!! . The collection coming from that GM executives estate is a good example , where would we be if someone just tossed those items out ! Now if someone has a spare fifty thousand they could donate to a very worth cause, my library fund??? I promise to only use the money for MV research :computerterror:
