Hi Clive I would have to be honest & say that I never spent the time to check the condensor out with a meter, it being far quicker to just clip on the temporary condensor & if it worked just replace the vehicle one. Time being of the essence when you are on the side of a motorway with people trying their best to kill you. It's a long time ago now but from what I remember the majority of condensor problems caused lack of power or mis-firing faults very similar to fuel problems, so after jump leads my condensor rig was probably my most used bit of kit (until electronic ignition became the thing to have) Ballast resistors were another quite common problem I seem to recall.

I've now found the same picture in another book & the caption reads "Normandy, summer 1944 at a battalion HQ of the 29th Division............The kneeling man has British made hobnailed boots" Still doesn't explain the hobnailed roughouts that were on ebay though.

Following on from Clive's post on condensor testing one little trick we used to use when I worked for a certain breakdown organisation was:- Get a condensor ( which you know to be good) any condensor will do, doesn't have to be the one for your vehicle. Extend the wire by a foot or so to make life easy & put a crocodile clip on the end, fix another croc clip to the body. Then when you get a problem just clip the wire to the dist terminal on the coil & the body clip to earth & you will get instant improvement if the vehicle condensor is at fault. It only takes seconds & will get you home (or anywhere else) without having to replace anything at the roadside 8)

Written on the back of the majority of jeeps I've seen it says NO HAND SIGNALS Should just about cover it.

Here is another thought for you then Any modifications that you make to your vehicle should comply with construction & use regs, which is why the add on indicators do being stamped with the E mark & all that EEC rubbish. Therefore any modifications to the blackout lights aren't legal (not that it stopped me doing it) So is it better to have no indicators & be legal or add on ones & be safer. All a flashing indicator tells you is that the bulb is working & shouldn't be relied on anyway.

All depends on how much of a purist you are I guess.

Hi chaps I have been having thoughts about starting an HMV regional group for Hampshire With the aim of having fun days out, road runs, off road runs, visits to interesting places, shows etc (you know the sort of thing) Obviously Hampshire is quite a big county so the idea would be to find somewhere easily accessible in the middle for pub meets etc. Just need to know at this stage who/if anyone is interested :?:
