  1. Hmm - French caps again - another view of the same scene of stacked jeeps that Nick Johns posted before xmas maybe? But where.....
  2. I reckon those two 25 tonne loads of aluminium lager cans tipped up in the foreground weigh about..... 50 tonnes?
  3. Did someone tell him he could jack up the forum's rear axle and put it in reverse to wind back his age-ometer? It won't work....mind you he's looking good for 61!
  4. CW, have you got one of these but about 5 or 6 ft high? In which case that might be a show worth seeing.......
  5. Are the 4 wheel tanker trailers like this one, Runflat?
  6. I haven't dared look too closely, but I can get a bit closer than you - it will no doubt need a lot of Cola :-D
  7. It would not have been appropriate for WW2 anyway - they always seemed to carry between 5 and 10 Tons :cool2:
  8. Slow but sure, No.1 - slow but sure..... I've been concentrating on the Autocar just recently, but had time to get the tank partly ready for lifting. Walkway, ladder and pipe lockers removed, also roof cut off pump compartment - next job is removing some pipework to free tank. I'm trying to get ahead a little before writing it up (if anyone is interested). You can now see the engine - a 4cyl air cooled, but absolutely no idea what make as yet, only just become accessible!!
  9. Why do suppliers offer data plates in both zinc and brass? Were both materials used for all vehicle types? Am I right in thinking they were mainly zinc, but restorers prefert he look of brass? Any info much appreciated.
  10. Yes, the plastic is why I was worried it might be a PW switch - thanks for that info.
  11. Are you going to rub our noses in it even further by telling us how much the beer is per litre? :-D
  12. That's a coincidence Paul, I've just this moment found a similar pic of a repro one on Staman's website under jeep parts, and will have to scrape the paint off 'just in case'!
  13. Too late, I think Jack used them to top his battery up.
  14. Let us hope they pull it off. It would be one thing to lose it to redevelopment for industry/commerce where people can go to earn a living, but if we end up losing such an important survivor to yet another giant retail park where people go to spend money they don't have on cr&p from China or elsewhere - well we might as well go back to the Stone Age....back to my wiring diagram now.
  15. Thanks for your input Adrian and Mark. It will see further service then!
  16. Best of luck CW - no doubt this is Cat powered too! Just removed pic of smokey diesel truck - poss. copyright. I'm sure you can imagine it!!!
  17. Have you tried looking in the Centurion Technical Manual?
  18. If we can find a witness we've got an excuse for an ID parade :yay::yay:
  19. The U7144T (which was rebuilt by Autocar in 1953) should have the standard pull-out switch, but has this rotary type. Can anyone identify this as a WW2 or Post War type? I've just ripped out the entire wiring from the Autocar (some original, some later, some mouse damaged, some does nothing!) and am pondering whether to use this switch or put a pull-out type in. Thanks!
  20. The other people worth trying for a contact for psp would be Eve Trakway, one of the largest portable roadway companies. They must know where to get a load if they do not have it. www.evetrakway.co.uk
  21. Jimh, if you'd care to post here the spec. (length, thread type, dia. and quantity), I'll have a look in my dungeon. I seem to remember finding some when I did the same job. They'll be Unbrako hex key type.
  22. That is most unfortunate Mike. I've never had any machining done by them, but they have been good for spares and in-house reconditioned items (for machines they have had long experience with admittedly). In the light of your experiences I am happy to have the word "especially" removed from my statement above, but I certainly would not expect you to agree with it, given your problems. Hope you at least end up with a servicable clutch assembly out of it all, even though nothing will undo the hassle element. How did you come to be dealing with them - was the clutch assembly similar to a dumptruck unit?
  23. Is it for a one-off job or ongoing use? What about hiring in including installation? (if landing a valuable plane it is as well to have some come-back on the installers if anything unfortunate happens)
