Sloth, as Catweazle says I'm pretty sure chrome is correct for the wheels. Bizarrely, TRWs were originally supplied in bottle green paintwork with twin gold pin striping, which seems odd. I've seen NOS TRW tin-ware still in its in army wrappings, with the bottle green and gold pin striping applied! Of course, many were just painted DBG or RAF blue not long after entering service. If anyone hears of a project (a basket case is fine) please let me know G506

Sorry if I'm going off topic a bit, but about 10 years ago I am absolutely sure I saw an advert in the MV press (W&T or MVT green sheet) for a Jaguar MK10 for sale, which I seem to recall was described as left hand drive, with black paint work, (which sounded to me like a possible ex BAOR staff car) needing restoration and located in Kent (I think). Does anyone know of this car, or have I just been sniffing too much olive drab paint lately?

I had a very late production MK3 TRW back in the 1990s, what a fantasic bike. You have that glorious Triumph twin sound, good looks, reasonable handling, and very reliable (later production examples had two coils, two sets of points, two condensors, lose any one of these and you can still get home). I had to sell mine due to divorce 10 years ago, and I really miss it, been looking for another for ages.

A word of caution guys, be extremely careful if using a pressure washer (either hot or cold) to get the worst grime off, as it can weaken the structure of the tyre walls. This is particularly important for those tyres known to have issues with sidewall cracking/perishing, as an example I have major problems with Goodyear 7.50 x 16 Xtra Grips. Tragically, I have to admit to liking my Landy being all clean and shiny (in fact I take a lot more care of the Landy than I do my everyday car), and tyres come into this. I use weak soapy water and a brush to get any dirt off, followed by a fresh water rinse, and once this has dried apply a coat of tyre dressing, or preferably tyre foam as mentioned by Phil P. I like the 'sparkly' look personally, but if you dont, just carry out this process a week or two before the event you want to attend, just to allow any sheen to die down.

By the sound of it there are a few survivors, but what a shame so few seem to be safe in collectors hands, are there any under restoration anywhere?

It may be of interest, there was an Amazon in a yard in Chichester in West Sussex, a couple of years ago, may still be there, and another (in safe hands) in a yard near Southampton. If anyone on this forum is brave enough to attempt a restoration, I can point them in the right direction to possibly save the old girl in Chichester ............... By the way, I remember the one in Parkstone, not sure where she went.

Hello Tugger, instead of primer/red oxide, you can get etch primer in aerosol form. A lot more expensive, but a lot more effective. Most professional auto paint suppliers should do it. Dont forget to use correct respiratory protection, its nastier than regular paint!

A White 704S survives in the Netherlands - see http://www.armymotorcars.com/html/w_2.html. It was discovered in and rescued from a French scrapyard, and then restored by a Dutch collector. Hi Matt, this is a friend of mine in Holland. This 704 is believed to be the sole survivor, and my friend was kind enough to let me drive it a couple of years ago. It is an absolute honey, probably the nicest army truck I have ever driven. Cheers

I realise this is probably a long shot, but for a long time now Ive been on the look out for a TRW project, in any condition, but so far no luck. I had one years ago, but due to divorce it had to go. Anyone out there know of one for sale?

A friend did point out to me the other day, that even if my truck should have leatherette, do I really want to be sat on it, stuck in traffic, on a hot July day, in a closed cab?
