    Iain

Have you got replacement bars ? if not I can supply some as long as they are same as 432/434.

PM me if you need any.

  2. if Oily doesnt want it john I will have it please...this will be just about perfect for my plans...off roader stolly with auto box, big tyres off a ural and everything that isnt needed removed to reduce weight to less than 5 tons...not sure of the latter bit but thats the plan...

    PM sent.

  3. now its over I am glad I did it,but it could have been so much easier if the two companies Pa Ko and Motodemonjte had been more thorough with the vehicles they sold. I should not have needed to check it and tell them what was wrong...and then for them to give them to me with a whole list of faults...but i guess thats the way they do it over there

So what happens about the one that you took back ?

  4. Ok - so having looked at this Thread - Can someone tell me in non-army speak what role mine would have played in this whole set up? It is listed as a Telegraph Station, Carrier Mounted. (as shown on that list a few pages back).

What would it have done and what would it have had fitted in/on it? Currently it has a genny braket on the radiator grill and two clarke/racal mast style mount brakets welded to the RH side. Inside it is wired for three radios and there is evidence of an additional two shelf radio bracket being fitted on the left had track sill at the back and signs of another, now missing, loom that went to this area ??

    All ideas greatly appreciated :)

    Don

Scrap all the junk off it and call it a 432 (you were open to ideas) !

  5. Definately an obstacle galusion..... I have a Tiger 1 track link here, I can prove it!

Oh and its Bovington....... Bovingdon is north of London and is where they filmed The War Lover and 633 Squadron when it used to have an airfield. Pedant mode off!

Quite right to correct, I once spoke to a truck driver in Stockport who asked for directions for Reddish, which is about 2 miles from Stockport town centre. On checking the address on his delivery note I noticed it said Redditch, he had only driven 100 miles past his intended destination ! (PRE SAT NAV DAYS)

  6. I don't what would have happened if Stollys had ever had to cross the Rhine in anger?

I assume that the engineers would have been tasked to prepare landing ramps for them on the other side?

They would have sent a couple of CET's across first, they could exit using their rocket propelled anchor and winch and then proceded to prepare the exit piont with their bucket !

  7. Guys

    This is an odd one

I have lost my headlights and indicators (not literaly)

I flick the side and tail switch and they come on OK, when i flick the headlights they dont work nor do the indicators.

Ive checked the obvious convoy and black out but still no joy

Ime having to drive on IR lights without indicators...not ideal

Any ideas?..like a hidden fuse etc

Cannot help with the faultfinding but you make it sound like you go to work in it every day !

  8. Not sure of breed of engine as just saw it parked up in a yard and on the grill it said diesel but that was it i have yet to return to have a look just wanted an idea of what they go for, as the guy may want daft money for it and as i said i have never seen one for sale before to put a ruff price on it

    thanks chris

I sold mine about 9 years ago for £6500 Perkins 540 V8 truck was very clean.

  9. It was a hemp rope Tony.

Is that a defence ? A hemp rope coming at you at that speed will still do you some damage, the bloke in the back seems to get a whack with the flailing end.

In the clasified section on this forum the owner of this vehicle now has a wanted ad for the correct recovery ropes and a winch cable, so I presume that the Stalwart's own self recovery winch has no cable on it. Even if it did have it would require at least the use of 2 snatch blocks to get it up that bank without the pressure relief blowing off.

  10. Cheers Andy will take a look this weekend ,

Got the release papers this week and was shocked at the year 1996 . fairly new vehicles for the army to dispose I thought

  11. Does anyone know if there is a an AUTOMATIC gearbox available, such as Borg-Warner, or Allinson etc that would marry-up to a B80 engine and a Saracen transfer box? ... been on my mind a while now,..... or would the engine and auto-box out of a Dennis Eagle Dustcart fit in the engine bay of a saracen, I drive these dustcarts at work, and they are certainly more 'nimble' than one would think, and have very good acceleration when both empty (just over 14ton, and full, 26ton!) and are capable of very respectable cruising speeds 60mph... just a crazy plan I've been hatching.......:cool2:

If you are interested I have an ALLISON MT640 which came off the back of a B81 out of a 4x4 airfield crash tender (non-military). I have the adaptor ring, flex plate and torque convertor complete to mount up to the basic B80/81 engine. You can have the lot for £150. PM me if interested I have photos of the complete assembly before I split it off the engine.

  12. The chassis was really grim, looking back I must have been insane.

You were, if you remember I was doing my Antar in your yard at the time, much preffered 24 tons of easy restoration rather than your 3-4 tons of complete rust to start with. It was a credit to your skill and determination !!!

  13. I was there for the whole auction and have every price achieved noted on my catalogue. Aprox 135 0f the 180 lots sold on the day. The Sexton went to £75k but did not sell, the Chieftain Gun Tank went to £23k but also did not sell !

The most impressive thing to me was that a Champ sold for more than any of the Jeeps in the sale At a total price of £14250.

My old Champ KRJ 422E which I bought in a derelict condition in 1980 (the first motor vehicle I ever owned) for £125 sold for a total of £8800, Last year it was sold in a Withams tender to B & E Boys for £5500 + vat including the Brockhouse trailer that sold seperately for £450.

  14. I hate to say it again, but it may not be legal to tow this gun. If it is unbraked and over 750Kgs then, it is not allowed by C and U regs. The fact that there is a braked limber does not alter the fact that they are two seperate trailers, and each has to be braked.

A Motor tractor can tow two trailers, but each must be unladen. Only a locomotive can tow a laden trailer and and empty trailer at the same time, (or two Laden Trailers)

To tow two trailers, one of which is laden needs a loco, and this has to be over 7,320Kgs.

I am assuming the limber will be carrying rounds of some description, so it will be laden.

However I cannot see how you can get round towing a trailer (the gun) that is over 750 Kgs and unbraked. That is not allowed.

How about mechanically fixing the limber and gun together so that when they are on the road they are one articulating trailer ? As the limber has a braked axle the "trailer" then has brakes. When you get to the show unbolt the linkage.

  15. I know the engine in question but given that it's probably worth in excess of £100,000 in restored condition it's no wonder the effort was put in to restore it after the fire.

Although the Scammell 100 tonner is undoubtedly rare would it's final value be enough to persuade anyone it's worth restoring?

All speculation I suppose as no-one is yet aware of it's condition or even if it has been damaged how severely.

More like £500,000 for Renown ! Lord Lacelles sold for £600,000 a couple of years ago.

  16. Spent many happy hours getting lost in there, after getting in on the pretence of wanting some particular part or other, knowing full well that when I found "it" it would be far too expensive, so "it" just got left by the owners office door.

  17. There are a few at auction at the end of the month . how do They value . I am intersted if a good price but cant find any advertised to judge prices . Anyone any ideas on values , for an average condition unit

    Thanks Dan

As advertised on this forum mine is £9500 with all the spares and the extremly rare crane attachment for the bucket. It is actually in Bramhall/ Hazel Grove about 10 minutes from you, if you fancy taking a no obligation look over it this week or weekend give me a call.

    John.
