Steve
As regards the location you are quite right, I have got the names mixed up in my mind.
Stainmore; I have swanned about on there during day and darkness, one time with a dead chicken in my 'large pack'. Its rough ground but certainly no armoured vehicles lying around.
Back to the thread, there was/is a rumour that in the forrest ther was another Churchill, but due to the densness (sic) no-one could find it. It was derilict like this one and the trees had been planted all around it.
Can you throw any light on this other one ?
Bob
Just seen Eddy jumping in his van with a large metal detector, wonder where he's off to.....

yes they seem a good price, mine is more but its already running and registered. So I am happy with that...
where do you fit the winch...is there a standard fitting for it....is it a powerful beastie..
These trucks were never fitted with winches, but as you have hydraulics already fitted you could fit any hydraulic winch you wanted. You could even build it into the rack as long as you remember to uncouple the hoses before you ofload the rack. Currently have 6 ex- military hydraulic winches in stock should you want one.

You will have to draw straws for which of you is walking in front with the hi-viz vest on when you are driving to the arena, complete pain in the a..., its ok if your in a wheeled vehicle you can wiz round to your hearts content at any speed and nobody bothers !

What work are you doing on the tank ?
-
Hi John,
It is a four axle Nooteboom extending trailer.
Thanks Richard,
looks well, sad really I'm more interested in the trailer than the Tank.
John.

Lets stop it here,
Construction Equipment comes under completely different legislation,
"The Machinery Directive"

Would the Alvis Fighting Vehicles Society not be able to verify that there is a secondary braking system ?

Surely the weather was worse than that in Shrewsbury today ! Weather in Northern Ireland was terrible today.

That is the normal track for the Stormer, they are all fitted with chevron track.
Chris
Thanks Chris,
I never noticed that before.

I would have tipped the pair on their sides and rolled them in on skates.....
I would have just crushed them and saved all the bother !!!
On a more serious note the use of fencing chain for lifting at such acute angles is quite dangerous.
Once did a similar thing a good few years ago with Champs which I had for spares, but just stacked one directly on the other then pushed the bottom one into the storage box.

Just beware (if you don't already know) that they're handed left and right ...
Andy
Thank you, I was not aware of that I will mark them up as I remove them.
-
Is it broken? If so you will need a lenth of rod long enouth the reach the full width with a threaded end to screw into the anchor end of the bar and feed it out after the main part of the bar is removed, or it will be lost in position and be a pain to remove!
I am sure this procedure is in the manual but its been a few years and I would have to look it up to get details correct. I'll scan the relevant manual pages in the am if its any use?
No, just removing good ones as spares from scrap hull, tHINK I have worked it out now I have noticed the 2 retaining pins. Thanks anyway.

Explorer slowly rusting away here. Scroll down.
Nelson Greens airfield storage area, hope the photographer had permission to be there !

Does anybody know how the torsion bars are removed ?

This is a quick word of warning for those fitting exchange fuel pumps to their FV430s. I've been caught out by this and Chas nearly has too, so it's probably worth repeating.
Beware that exchange pumps may either come without the double-ended fitting for the outlet side of the pump, or, as mine did, with the wrong fitting.

The fitting is the one you can see near the base of the pump in the picture above. I strongly suggest that anyone buying an exchange pump remove the fitting before returning the pump, especially if the supplier wants the old pump back before they send the new one!
Andy
Where is the pump located on a 434 ?

Ouch !

You should try an Antar wheel and tyre at 1/4 Ton.
You beat me to it Mike, once had a puncture on an inner rear on way to Stonleigh back in the 90's, I just left it untill we got there and there were plenty of willing helpers around to gve me a lift !

You will have them Saturday, looks like the plastic chair is the most important tool when using the needle gun !

I went for a nosy around Withams yard the other week, they have hundreds and I mean hundreds... row after row of 432's stretching into the distance round the back of their yard.
All of them looked immacculate, perfect tracks, paints, road pads etc... saleman said most of them had fewer than a few hundred miles on the clock though whether thats true in reality would remain to be seen.
No wonder they can't sell them all really, flooded the market. Would be a shame to see them all get cut up though.
Nice 434 by the way, everytime I see one I want one! :cool2:
On Tuesday 14/9/10 there were actually only 63 432s in the whole of Withams, I will admit it does look like there are 100's.

Just sorting out some stuff which has been in store and have found a steel open top box/bracket containing one of the large AFV first aid kit boxes.
The item is padded inside, approx 11"x5"x3" with a 2" extension each side ,has two tags with mounting holes at the rear and is sprayed matt green over silver.
I'm guessing it is for a post war British vehicle but can anyone please tell me if it is specific to one type of vehicle or a standard AFV fitting ?
How about posting a picture that would help us help you.
