How heavy is the trailer on its own then ?
-
try this site as i think they are the same as our tank batteries
Andy all the batteries refered to on that site are traction batteries (for electric forklifts and milkfloats ect) I do agree though the same company make the NATO spec batteries fitted to most AFVs in use in the UK today.

What was the Antar doing in Lincolnshire anyway just to be nosey ? Any idea what the fuel consumption was on the Amazon for the whole trip ?
-
Its no good the chassis is held together with rope at the front !
-
OK John ............. but why is it carrying an Army rego plate?
Good point, cannot answer that one.

This Foden drops wrecker was never adopted by the MOD and it always belonged to Foden/Paccar.
It was often seen out and about in the Sandbach area running on trade plates, it even attended the Astle Park Steam Rally on one occasion, driven by one of the factory test and development drivers. These would have been manufacturers trade plates used for the testing of vehicles.

What happened to passenger front window ?
Would suggest, WEEK'S tilt bed trailer to be most suitable, close coupled 2 axle rated to carry 10 tons, call David Crouch on 01162792245 I did see one in his Kibworth yard a couple of weeks ago.
Just as a point of interest, your truck also belonged to me at one time, I was the first person to own it after the MOD. I also registered it.

It was a similar design the casings carrying the gear trains to each hub and wheel were somewhat bigger. The fundamental difference was that the single axle on the Scammell one was a worm and wheel drive whereas the Leyland one was a crownwheel and pinnion set up.
-
the main difference between the 2 is the back end,if the tie bars between the axles are straight it is a crusader 35t,if the tie bars are canted inwards it is an amazon as they were fitted with a contractor back end, ie 100ton also the gearboxes are different, amazon is lower geared
Amazon chassis rails are a lot deeper, just measured my Crusader and they are 10" deep.

I'll tell you on Monday - if I remember to have a look!
Trust me I,m right. In exchange I would like you to let me know what the chassis number is of the one you currently have ?
-
Which one?
Gate guard to be.
-
Could it possibly be chassis number 63160 ?

Don't worry Commander I have no real plan, I just emptied about 3 storage boxes at 3 different locations put most of it back "because one day it may com in handy" and the rest went in the trailer ready for next weekend ! Just found a very good Reo cab canvas in the loft so that can go too, only because I bought a brand new one 2 weeks ago which has now gone into "stock". Also have "M" SERIES in tank fuel pumps brand new.

just unearthed another crated 2 speed generator out of the shed, plus 2 x Ferret fishtails. We will also be bringing some complete wartime gunrings, legs and skates for GMC's ect. Some nice tidy 12/24 volt battery charging generators. some nice stackable stowage boxes. some CVRT front stowage boxes. A comms side tent. some spot lamps and anything else I have time to dig out.

AMgeneral and I have pitches 29 & 30. Strange thing though the organisers have not put a plan of the pitches in with the entry pack. There is a trade only day Saturday for anybody who has booked a pitch, it will be interesting to see who turns up as this must be the most northerly event of its type.

Thats brilliant fella's thanks for that. I'm surprised that they are different in the pallet loading.
Cheers.
It is not a pallet but a rack or skip.

I will be there as I have a stall !
John.

Hi Tony, all fine here, attending lots of shows and getting well known in Land Rover circles here! Spent the weekend eating drinking and sleeping in the casemates in the background of the photo.
Been thinking about the picture, style of number plate makes it a 70s picture and I think it's a rare civvy Champ, there's an Austin badge on the edge of the bonnet, Rubbolite indicators and an AA badge! Whether it was borrowed for someone's send off or was in service is a different matter, the army bought civvy Land Rovers and militarised them.
I do not think it is a "civvy" Champ but an Ex-British Army Champ in civilian ownership, genuine civvy Champ had slightly wider front edge on front wings and a fixed windscreen (none folding).

I have submitted ads which have never been posted nor have I had the e-mail suggesting I am a trader and should submit a photo ad. I just don't bother now I just rely on word of mouth and scanning wanted adds.

And the last time I asked £60 each even for large quantity.
-
£2000 seems expensive given the state of it. Scrap price would drop lots if you left the 6 tyres on it. I hope someone can do a deal on it, either to restore, or even just for parts. It would be a real shame to melt it down. Sadly it's too far for me to collect, unless someone might know of anyone needing a return load to East Sussex!
Jules
You would be quite surprised at how much all that phosphor bronze is worth in the rear worm and wheel !

Oh sorry - just remembered
I have some pics of the Antar here:
http://s484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/RustyTrucks/Antar%20Mk%203/
It is one of my old ones - 3 Tk Tptr Sqn RCT who were based in Sennelager, Germany.
Wow mine was 12DM60, which I restored between 1988 - 92 now residing in Basingstoke. Any chance you can get me the chassis number ?
John.
