  1. Epic, thanks so much for sharing them mate. Doodlebug eh ?
  2. I count 6 of them (bridge type thingy ones) ! Im in LVT Heaven do any of the piccies come captioned ?
  3. Oh thats a rare variant you have there Lancs' There where a couple of types of carpet/fascine layers trialled by the yanks and by the 79th but imagery is sparse, thats a real gem of a photo ! Edit: looking again it looks like a sort of Jerry rigged deployable Bridge ? Maybe the Girders detach and the Plank ladder forms the bridge surface ? Ive seen the sandmat/carpet layers but this is a new one. Excellent and thanks so much for sharing More editing: Its an LVT 2 thats for sure (zoomed in shows the detail of the support members on the Flaps over the Front drive wheels. Cracking stuff
  4. Thanks matey, any more LVT piccies ? Rare one would be LVT 2 The Cargo version without the ramp) in British Service, They mostly feature in the background of the phots in all the reference books I have (and I think I have pretty much all of them)
  5. Yeah its coming on, but meanwhile ! :-D Something went wrong...
  6. Thanks Vulture, Im a bit of an amphibious vehicle fanatic LOL. would love a real one. Plan is to have the Jeep RC'd up too, the Ramp on the Buffalo is now funtional and waterproofish (waiting on a bilge pump) I blame airfix. These photos the willyslancs has posted are inspirational, I wasnt sure how to finish the Buff ie, yank or British but Defo going 79th Armoured now
  7. Ahh my inspiration ! the Old Airfix Buffalo. some decades later heres my version in progress. Uploaded with ImageShack.us The LVT (A)1 behind it was my first big scale Scratch project Something went wrong... Something went wrong...
  8. Amazing couple of photos not least as Im currently building a 1:16 LVT4 and any reference is welcome. Might one enquire as to were the piccies came from ? The First LVT appears to have some sort of rubber bumper extension on the top of the ramp ? Are there any more ?
  9. We had them in Germany in the 1980's ! I was on the Brigade Air liason Officers det. We had a Spartan and would cabby a splendid RAF pilot type around BAOR. For training we had an inflatable BMP1 and a T72, we used to set them up so when we were training with Jets they had a "realistic" Warsaw Pact type target to pretend to attack. We even floated the BMP on a canal, I saw the photos taken by a Jaguar of us all sat on top of it on the water in our shorts :cool2:, I wonder why the Russians never came over the border. Sure Ive got a photo or two somwhere will have to dig them out.
  10. In my excitement yesterday, what I didnt do was say a heart felt thank you to all those who offered advice, help and answers to questions on this forum. Without which I would of been bumbling through the process. So a big thank you chaps, your a great bunch ! Nick
  11. Well, months later, MOT passed DVLA defeated and Movember Moustache in full Growth. Registration papers arrived Friday, Yesterday was damp, But today, Remembrance Sunday quite by co-incidence I got to drive the Jeep legally (swift edit...I should point out that I havn't actually driven it on the road at all so far ! legally or heaven forbid illegally lol ) on the road for the first time. Also gave me an excuse to dig out me old Irvin (not worn for some years now). Once round the block and again with my ever supportive lady. Big smiles and not a beat missed from the engine. Now have to think about the paintwork, maybe in the spring. For now here she is. (the Jeep not the Missus) Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  12. Im reading this from two sides of the fence, I'm not at all sure the Broo HaHa about the chap in his Jeep is appropriate given its a snapshot, and to be honest its a bit "blue rinse politics" to get all high and mighty about these things isnt it ? Like Old ladies complaining about the weather as if someones to blame . Re-enacting, its merits, downfalls etc are all very subjective. Personally when I first went to Beltring, I enjoyed seeing all those remarkable machines, and to be honest if the crew happened to be dress appropriatly then it sort of added to the effect, no harm done. So I can go with it. However........ I served 22 years in the Army and was deployed to most of the major operational areas of the time. The Army of the 80's re-enactors made me chuckle to be honest (why is it the Uniforms never seem to sit right on these folks they just dont look like soldiers) and again to be honest it was interesting to see some of the old kit that we had and made use of. What checked me, was the Gulf War lot, I served in and lost friends in the 1991 conflict. I did gaul at seeing a bunch of dressers up "honourin" Op Granby, certainly dont feel I need honouring, not in that manner. Maybe it takes an "amount" of time for a historic re-enactment to become acceptable and in each case its going to be a very personal opinion. I have no opinion that says if guys want to do so, they shouldnt, infact if they enjoy it, then go for it lads why the heck not, truly if "playing soldiers" is your thing, I'm not being ironic, knock yourselves out, I have no doubt that in many ways its fun, all the clobber and guns and stuff, whats not to like. Just ease up on the Honouring and Dishonouring stuff and for god sake its only a Hobby chill out !
  13. Bugger ! they want to inspect it, take it that means no reg beforehand :embarrassed:. Which means all manner of arranging trailers to Theale and home again and more waiting. Inspection not til 3rd November. Oh and the insurance peeps are playing hell about only having chassis number so Im going to have to get in touch with them again. All traces of smug now temporarily removed. Ahh well once the snow comes I might have a wee 4 x 4 I can use :-)
  14. Just had the pleasure of submitting my V55/5 for my Jeep at Theale, which is thankfully only 10 minutes from me. Remarkably helpful young man there helped with the forms and in 10 minutes and 55 quid later all was done ! :cheesy:. Now standby 3 working days for tax disc and registration number. Must also say a big thank you to Liz at Dallas Autos who took time to look over my docs before I went down there today. I must admit I was braced for red tape and questions but the experience could not of been easier. So big positive feedback for DVLA Theale, I havnt stopped grinning yet !
  15. Anything with Richard Todd in is going to be good in my book...after all me dogs called Gibson ! Worst one ever Pearl Harbour...Im still investigating ways of Hollywood monetarily compensating me for the 3 hours of my life I will never get back ! Part from the bit with the B25's on the carrier, dont know how they did it but recreats my second favourite bit of aviation history remarkably well (Ok so they dont have to pay me for those 5 minutes) OH and Kate whatserface, Id take some compensation of her in lieu of cash  I love the Battle of the Bulge in all its shot in Spain implausability. A Bridge too far will forever remain my favourite, stirring theme, a remarkably well done drop sequence from the para's point of view...I say well done as I never had my bloody eyes open when I jumped for the queens recompence so Im assuming thats what it should look like, I was a rubbish paratrooper :cheesy:. God forbid Jackson naffs up the Dambusters, I reckon I can afford a ticket to NZ to go and kick him in the unmentionables if he does, well if they pay me re Pearl Harbour...see above. But if Kate thingy does what I hope she does, I will have to organise a whip around. Wonder what the inflight movies would be enroute, Battle of Britain, Reach for the sky and Angels One Five I hope P.S. If a Scorpion Tank isnt a Tank then I need to re-write me childhood. Targets......UP !
  16. Any other history about the origins of the photo ? Id guess its got to do with wading but thats only an uninformed guess and probably stating the obvious
  17. They all look in remarkably good order too. Amazing to see these vehicles and all together
  18. Looks like its Piston rings on mine, Bugger
  19. Bugger good spot Noel, Come to think of it looking at the size of it on the back of the lorry, you absolutely right. A Waco would be much bigger. Im going with the Piper L4 then, tail wheel on the Stinson is a bit further forward. I wouldnt mind but as a former, and rather smug All Arms Recog instructor, and !! having more than a few hours on Cubs and an L4 I should of known better. Still its an interesting photo. On the day I win the lottery and just after Ive been to the DUKW shop I will be getting an L4 remarkable little aeroplane and a joy to fly.
  20. Im guessing, Waco CG4 but with the rudder removed and wings either side for transport. (Say Im guessing but pretty sure)
  21. Took the carb apart, found to my horror that somebody had been there before me and stripped out the screwdriver slots on 2 of the jets. Bits of Brass everywhere. Sooooo bit the bullet and called Jeep Parts about a replacement, quick as you like a Solex turns up, pops on in place and Hey Presto she runs like a dream...well a lumpey blue smokey dream but success never the less. All timing and tappet gaps set up too. Now I will probably get Carb ex to have a go at the Zenith at some point and keep it as a spare, like you do. Next step is to get somebody with more hexpertise than me to look at the block and see if there is a way ahead with the state of the rest of the engine (Piston rings maybe ?) Meanwhile the lovely missus has, off her own back and inspired by her visit to Beltring, nocked out some Canvas excellent headlight covers...what a girl ! :-D
  22. For anybody thats interested, turns out the Zenith W-O is a licenced French copy of the Carter, so I have a carb kit for it from Dallas and Im going to give it a go.....probably followed by a trip to Dallas to get them to fix the mess I make
  23. Barry, thanks for that, I had visions of getting out of my depth taking it apart and ending up with a few bits left over on the rebuild. Getting it done properly sounds like a damn good idea to me. I did a quick search is carb exchange the one at Leighton Buzzard ? (mind you, you dont half get some odd websites when you put "carb exchange" as a search ) thanks again Nick Belay that, just called them, they got a 4 week ! backlog, they so busy. Which is a bit of a bummer, having said that, good for them its nice to hear a firm is doing so well !
  24. I didnt want to totally hijack Slick50's thread so started my own. I appear to have a Zenith Carb on me jeep. That said looking at the piccies of Carter Carbs it looks exactly the same and is marked "Made in France Zenith Carburetor " Model w-O. There is also a triangular brass tag that I think reads z869s or s968z depending which way up you read it :nut:. Seems that the engine has been running rich and post me having a shufty down the top, with the Air inlet pipe thing removed. Its seems to be swimming in petrol. When you activate the throttle lever a stream of juice runs out. What should I see ? I figured a sort of spray(Engine not running while looking) but theres more of a flow. Any tips on carbs, what should I see etfc, is there any sort of eejits guide on the interweb that would take me through setting it up. Engine has been lumpy since I got her and now Im doing lots of work and learning more, Im wondering if this isnt the root of the problem i.e. too rich. All advice gratefully recieved (like I said I didnt want to take over slicks thread) thanks as always guys Nick
