  1. Hello Davey I have have just restored another one of these gennys in my collection, there a very nice little unit, and there a quiet unit when running. I am missing a couple of bits off mine but I have got it running very well and it kicks out power well. I did have to get the radiator recored as mine was frosted badly, and I had to fit a new core plug, I was lucky the block wasnt cracked. Is yours a 220 volt or 120volts. There were several variations of these genys.good luck with the restoration. Thanks Howard
  2. Thought I would try out something a bit different for the 2011 season. Its a Praga V3s with air cooled diesel, its in pretty good condition, will make a nice camper. Howard

  4. Ploughs to Propellers, a great show with lots to see and do, camping available, Control Tower, MVs , Aircraft ect.
  5. Hello Desert Rat, Thanks for that, I was just really thinking if the worst happened and someone was hurt, even though every thing was done right, the cable looked in good order ect, but no test certificate then who does the buck lay with. Do the organisers of an event take blame because they did not ask to see a certificate. Or does it just stop with the owner of the vehicle. Howard
  6. This thread has been very interesting in that I now know that the winch cables, ect need to be tested. I dont want to be a stick in the mud but at an certain show I attend there are a number of heavy commercials that gointo the arena and do recovery demonstrations for the public to watch. Surely these vehicles should have test certificates for the cables and if they dont then should not be used. The other point is where does the certification of the winch cables stop what about landrovers and other small 4x4 vehicles fitted with a winch, should they have a test certificate? I have a trailer with a 12 volt winch that we use to winch on search lights. should this also have a cerificate? Thanks Howard
  7. Hi, some one mentioned about all winches having to be tested along with shackles and chains, I know this is true if being used for a Business. But what about if its your hobby, lets say if you are doing a winching display pulling one truck accross a field with another, and there are peaple watching from a distance, do they all need to have up to date test certificates. Thanks Howard
  8. Hi Thats a nice looking tug to. You may have read about weather I should paint the bonnet yellow or leave it.I managed to get the owner to keep it all one colour. He has another he wants doing so maybe we will go for a yellow bonnet on that one. Thanks for the pic. Howard

  12. Hello Willyslancs If this is the Tank that was in the park at Haslingden, Victoria Park, then there may be some truth in it. The Tank was certainly there. But due to the cost of maintaining the Tank the local council wanted rid. Weather it was burried in the park or went for srap no one can say. But it is said that due to the cost of removing the tank it was buried instead. I got this info of the net, theres alot more to read on the story but this gives you some idea on what might have happened to the tank. Regards Howard
  13. Hello Degsy The one that i have in at the momment has 4F and 1R and just 2 pedals both on the right hand side the outer pedal being the brake and the inner being the clutch.Foot throttle also on the right hand side just behind and to the side of the brake pedal. Howard
  14. Hello Antarmike I will have another look and see if there are any markings, thats if its still there of cause, these things tend to have a habbit of going fast. Thanks Howard
  15. Well gents Thanks very much for all of that info , its cleared up what I wanted to know, i spoke to the owner today and and after quite a chat he is happy to leave the David Brown in full Blue/grey. While on the subject of the David Brown Taskmaster, one of you mentioned about them having a winch. Well I was driving past an area today where there use to be an old timber mill, and up untill now had laid dormant for years. Well the diggers are in and they have started to clear the site. Well i pulled in and got chatting to one of the guys clearing the yard, and there standing in the centre of the yard was a AEC Matador, and in the far corner of the yard was a Bedford QL and behind that half buried in rotting undergrowth was a David Brown Taskmaster with a winch on the back. I am planning on going back to get a better look it may well be hand for spares or possibly restorartion. I managed to get a pic of the matador. It just goes to show that these old vehicles are still around.Mind you these all need alot of work. Thanks Howard
  16. Hello Clive/Degsy/Ted. Thanks for putting on the picture of the David brown. A question for Ted am I right in saying that the marking on the front should be B/5 this meaning 617 squadron part of bomber command. With regards to the colour of the bonnet because the tug was biult in the 50s would it not have had a yellow bonnet. I agree with Degsy if it was mine I would have it all one colour. But as the owner wants a yellow bonnet then i have to do what he asks for.and as he has another tug inline for a repaint, I had better do as he asks. Thanks Howard
  17. Hello Degsy Yep I am getting there slowly, got to get stencils tomorrow, I have managed to get two new rear tyres, having the old ones removed tomorrow so i can blast the rear wheels. I have got the front wheels done, along with the air filter, side panels and the bonnet. I have painted the bonnet yellow at the customers request, but I would have left it all one colour see what you think. I may have all of that back on tomorrow, depending how i get on. I have a new Blasting bay being installed so I have to Juggle work inbetween the contractors fitting the Biulding. Thanks Howard
  18. Well got on well today, top coat now applied. Howard
  19. Had a busy day today, managed to get the tug blasted and most of it in primer. Heres a pic. Howard
  20. This is all interesting stuff, according to the owner it was used by the 617 Squadron, I will look into this more and see if I can get it confirmed. Here are a few more pics. This model has a standard foot clutch. Thanks Howard
  21. Hello Richard The picture doesnt do the colour justice, but i was told the colour was wrong, I beleave the blue grey shade is a more grey than blue. Thanks Howard
  22. Hello Richard Thanks for that Its not a dark blue, but its more of a blue than grey, you will see what i mean when i take a good picture of it. I do have one pic i can post now of one of the front wings, this gives you a rough idea of the colour. Thanks Howard
  23. I managed to get the date and the owner said it was built in 1950s. I have seen some pics of them painted in more of what they call a blue/grey rather than a blue. I will post a pic tomorrow when I get to the workshop. Thanks everybody for your help so far. Howard
  24. I have a David Brown taskmaster to repaint. Does anybody have any pics showing the correct colours it should be, the colours at the moment are a blue with a yellow bonnet. I thought that the RAF used a more of a grey blue in the early days. Can any body help. Thanks Howard
  25. Hello Ted Many thanks for that. Howard
