  1. The new continuous insurance legislation only applies to: Vehicles that have been Sorn. If you've never Sorn your vehicle then you don't need to worry. It has always been the vehicle that has to be insured with a named driver. Most policies allow you to drive another vehicle third party insured with restrictions. New drivers or young drivers generally do not get this luxury. Trader policies along with showman policies are different. That's why they have to display trade plates in addition to the normal plates on the vehicle.
  2. Have you tried to google it or good old Wikepedia may have a link to a pdf. You'll be amazed what is on there & some of it is even factual
  3. Cheers guys. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Just another government cash extraction then. I paid up, but if it happens again I might reconsider.
  4. mmm Licorice whirls, no I mean licorice tasting wheels dear
  5. Yes, but if you put it back on the road & it has never been previously Sorn, isn't their going to be some questions asked by them as to why it wasn't Sorn. Could you then be fined?
  6. Yep. It states it is up to us to ensure we get the 'Confirmation letter' within 4 weeks. If we don't then it's not 'Sorn' Yet to hear anyone that hasn't paid or has got their fine back.
  7. It is not a fine, it is a Late Licensing Penalty, s.7A, Vehicle Excise & Registration Act. It is treated a civil debt due to the crown and can eventually end up in the county court, although DVLA and their debt collectors try very hard before court action - where they can lose. Found this from the 'Consumer action group' website. They are saying if is NOT a fine but is covered under s.7A Vehicle excise & registration act. It is NOT a human rights issue either so you cannot use that. Anyone actually done this?
  8. Yes. I paid the fine as they told me I could not prove I had Sorned the vehicle. I was told if I did not pay they would / could take action against me.
  9. Yes, well I Sorned all of mine on line. Then received a fine and as I never had the reminding letter, was told I could not prove I had renewed it, despite the automated reply by e mail. Therefore I had no evidence to prove I Sorned it so I had to pay. The long letter back to them is alright, but I cannot see how that works. It is clear that it is a requirement to Sorn & if you don't you can be fined. Good thread, lets keep it going, would like to see what other's have done.
  10. I've googled 'Warriors' and similar & can't find anything. What group are you in at the mo? PM me if you'd rather.
  11. Hi. Following from a conversation from another thread. Has anyone been fined for not having SORN and then not paid it? What happened? Your input & guidance would be appreciated. Cheers. Rob
  12. See where your coming from but i've been fined even though I had Sorn and was told in no uncertain terms I had to pay or they would take action against me. New thread I think
  13. Yep, this came up at our last meeting. If the vehicle has never been SORN your ok pre 1998. http://news.gocompare.com/2011/01/new-regulations-to-target-britain%E2%80%99s-uninsured-drivers-0000048/ It is worth remembering that under UK law, it is up to YOU to ensure you comply with a law, not up to the DVLA to inform you of any legislation changes. The issue we found as a group may be what happens when you come to register a vehicle that has never been SORN. Had similar with my first UK civilian MOT on a LandRover. The MOT took two hours as the DVLA computer would not accept the vehicle, even thought it was road registered!
  14. Hi Guys. Not an expert here, but you could always phone up & ask your local road traffic policing unit. I've had to do it a few times for clarification on laws for writing policies for my work. I know, I lead an exiting life! They are helpful & if they don't know they'll phone you back with an answer later on.
  15. There is alot of SCRDE trials clothing out there which is a mix of Garbadene or Ripstop patterns. All trialled and sometimes used before the introduction of S95 then later S2000. The ripstop & the tea bag clothing never has been popular with regulars as its not durable. Also style can vary on the contractor & issue time. This stuff can sit on shelves for ages then suddenly get handed out prior to deploying. Remember 'stores are for storing'.
  16. The cap GS pre dates the Beret. A beret is a one piece woven wool item with or without eyelets & a bow at the rear. The GS is a two piece wool item with or without bobble on the top, depending on regiment.
  17. It's 85 pattern, it has sewn on buttons & single line of sewing around the pockets. In a great design addition it falls apart. Hence Soldier 95 came along with the Canadian type buttons. Much superior made. Then Soldier 2000 as above, but in ripstop material that wears too quickly and is inferior to S95. Hope this helps
  18. I personally like the 'crap hat' more practical than a beret- peak to keep the sun out of the eyes. Berets are ok but your always wearing a unit badge you may not have served with and can get 'awkward' sometimes with the 'ex' wannabes & the like. As for the trouser labels you really are going deep, bit like the 'stitch nazi's'. Ok for a collection to put in a drawer, but you may have to settle for what you can find, as long as it has a leg pocket. Lightweights are becoming rare as they are no longer issued but still a requirement for P company & Marines. Also depends on waist size as well. The fatter you get the harder to find anything!
  19. I'm afraid a row of neatly lined up mv's are becoming a thing of the past. At the end of the day a Jeep is a Jeep, the general public doesn't know or always care of the complexities of whether its a Ford or a Willy's or even a Hotchkiss. At the end of a day most of the public looks at a Land Rover and say 'thats a nice Jeep'!!! It's good to see some of the complex displays with the uniforms and the correct kit, in & outside of the vehicles. If you want to just display a vehicle go for it, if you want to wear a uniform at least try & do it correctly. I love German reenactors with tattoos & earings, always makes me smile :nut:
  20. How did you get round the VCR bill to import this?
  21. 'Red diesel' has always been the same grade as the road taxed 'white diesel'. Only heating oil is of a lower grade. In Ireland the bleaching of red to make it white for tax purposes is a big problem. Don't go putting red in your cars or road MV's or mr HMRC will have a not so polite word. Remember the good ol days of two, three & four star petrol & Smurfs.
  22. Take a look at the Forces 80 website will answer most of your questions. 'Crap hats' not worn i'm afraid. These are generally only worn in training before passing out. It would be unit beret & cap badge all the way. Hence the Para term 'hats'. You will need lightweights with the leg pocket, later ones have no leg pocket, your welcome to iron the creases in these each time you wear them! These again are becoming rare as no longer issued. DMS boots with puttees. A rare item now as the WW2 reenactors snap them up, but you can find them occassionally. You've done well if you've found original 68 pattern smock & particularly the trousers to fit you. No good at links i'm afraid- if I can help more please pm me
