  1. A quick update and pic. The opposite side panel and support was fabricated over the weekend. The replacement Electronic ignition (Correct one) has been fiited. We are waiting on the panel which runs 3/4 of the way around the bulkhead which the windscreen surround sites on. The windscreens are being made. £36 for a pair in laminated glass I thought wasnt too bad. With the windscreen glass in place I can tackle the surround itself. The large coolant pipe has also gone to another engineer to be fabricated- probably out if stainless steel. (If anyone wants one let me know.). Now the front panels are in place the ignition electrics can be wired up.
  2. I, getting a local engineering company to fabricate a water pipe for me Morris engine (4cyl). It will be probably be made out of stainless steel to stop corrosion on this pipe. It is the biggest pipe that is shaped with a 15mm and 22mm outlets welded on the side. If anyone is interested in having a spare one then let me know. Not sure of cost yet, but will post when I know.

  4. As the title suggets, Railway at War weekend at Chapel Brampton near Northampton 22-23 Sep. BBMF flypast, re-enactors, steam train rides. Will be dragging the family up, anyone else going? MVT event see the event diary.
  5. Yes thanks Andy received photos, many thanks. Looks like it is a later repair on mine. No I dont know what the 5% missing is. If it has only got 5% missing its still a good bet I think. A lot of parts are generic to other vehicles, and I have yet to find something on my Morris which has been unattainable.
  6. Ive got the money, Ive not got the room, even more so with the outcrop of foot and mouth. If this is as good as it sounds it would be a very affordable project for someone looking to get into Brit ww2 vehicles. Im waiting on more detailed pics. If someone hasnt already found themselves a bargain, then I will, by hook or crook! 8-)
  7. Ive just had a look at this site, the British Military Powerboat trust http://www.bmpt.org.uk/index.htm I didnt even know they existed, but a nice site to visit, especially the boats for sale section! The few boats/ships that I have had a look at have been traced to very specific military service history. traceable to their build numbers. Its a shame you cant do that with most land based MV's . would I be correct in thinking that is because land MV's were made in such huge numbers or is it because boats/ships had their records stored elsewhere?
  8. The one burning question that is on everybodys mind!
  9. Perhaps you should interview him for an article, or get him to write some of his memories down!
  10. ....the room... ....the money......
  11. Does anyone know if there are any restored about? Or any up for grabs? The blokes that used them were remarkable, real mavericks of their day. Pic for interest sake of one below, withtorpedo tubes mounted up high on deck to fire over sub nets. http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/rik242_2006/rsn-mtb74.jpg[/img]
  12. No youre not! Ive been fascinated with these since I was a sprog! I just got the impression there was only one left, obviously not!
  13. I was under the impression that it was MTB 682, but not that fussed about which number it is! As long as it is still there, is it still a houseboat? Or is there another D Day MTB?
  14. For the past 6 months Ive had that weekend encircled on my calendar at work with the word "Wareham" next to it. Since I wrote that on my calendar I had no idea what it meant!! We've just come back from Swanage recently, so have got the timing very wrong. Is this on the same weekend every year?
  15. Just seen a picture of a Motor Torpedo Boat, (yes I know not strictly a vehicle, but it does have an engine), pictured on the River Adur at Shoreham by Sea in West Sussex. It was converted to a house boat and in need of a lick of paint. Its the last surviving MTB and was engaged with the german navy in the D-day operations. Does anyone know if its still moored there. or what happened to it?
  16. Your wife's first car was a Ferret!!If only mine had the same priorities in life...........maybe......one day..... ;-)
  17. See the other post regarding that, I can but try! :-(
  18. Aha, I have discovered a load of people. Keep their vehicles in a large storage barn near Dunstable and meet first Thursday of the month at Overstone Manor near Northampton. :-D
  19. Just to clarify what this thread is about, Mr Wheatcroft has, in principle , agreed to answersome interview type questions to be posted as an article on this forum, so we need you questions! Its an oppurtunity not to be missed. Good starter from Tim. One from me. Occasionally we see reports of military vehicles being dragged up from swamps and rivers in Russia, lost after they tried to cross a semi frozen surface. Do you have any hand in these, or get the chance to purchase these for your collection?
  20. A bit of action on the Morris this week. Really want to get it running for more than a few seconds, so a few things a being actioned this week. After sussing out the electrics a bit and studying the wiring diagram, it is clear that some bodywork around the engine needs to be in place to attach some of the wiring onto for dynamo, starter, regulator etc. Iv'e wired up the control panel for the light switch, and started to attach the fabricated bits of front body panels. This panel seemed to be the first logical one to do as it sits under the regulator. Given a choice of laying the panel in place, marking the holes to drill out in one go, or drilling one hole, bolting in place, marking another hole and repeating the process, I opted for the latter. It was a long job doing it this way, but in retrospect a better way as I didnt end up with lots of misplaced holes in a panel. The strut was easily made from a bit of copper tubing from the local DIY store.
  21. Post your question here , anything you have wanted to know about the collection or the man himself- nothing too personal though!
  22. (This is the 3rd time I have tried to post this!) As promised in another thread I thought I would email Kevin Wheatcroft about the possibilty of a visit by some of us HMVF members to his place, and further to the mix the possibility of an email interview for this site. He has very kindly emailed back saying unfortunately not as he is a very private man and there are numerous H+S issues. Which is fair enough, at least he replied to the mail. It is a shame really as he has such a fantastic collection of vehicles, I thought it may be a long shot, but it was a case of if you dont ask you dont get. So a visit is not on the cards for now, but in principle he has agreed to an email interview. So this is where I throw open the doors to you lot. Ive started another thread Wheatcroft interview, for you to put down any questions you always wanted to ask him, I will email these on in the next week or two and forward the results to Jack who can work his magic.
