  1. It really doesn't seem like it was so many years ago . Back in the days when there was some decent tv to watch . Thanks be to the dvd !
  2. I tried the Coke trick on my '42 Fordson tractor when trying to dismantle the engine . Not sure it made that much difference - It came down to an offcut of fence post down the bore and the largest sledgehammer I could lay my hands on in the end .
  3. Jeez Neil . There is something to be said for the gutter in special circumstances you know & availing yourself of the services of some special security operatives even better . Best of luck mate . Hope you get 'an appropriate result' . My girlfriend was manager of a housing project in a local (North Essex seaside) town a few years back , one day she had a call to say that the thieving toerag boyfriend of one of her residents was just having it away with the newly purchased washing machine and was just about to leave the building complete with said item on a sack truck . An immediate call to the local plod resulted in a call back two days later asking if she still wanted them to attend .............. :schocked:
  4. This does not sound good Neil . What's been happening ?
  5. Thanks for the comments and info guys . I'm pretty sure that I've seen this particular one advertised at least a couple of times before and it does seem odd that it's not sold if it is as good as the description and really a nice as the pics show - but then stand pretty much anything out in the snow on a bright Sunny day and it's going to look good isn't it ? Maybe it's just the distance / transport that's put people off . Just for once I am going to be realistic I think . I have far too many toys in bits right now . In fact , maybe I just have far too many toys ......... No......That can't be right........... can it ? Anyway , my accountant seems to think that I might have a bit of pocket money later in the year so I'm going to pass on this one and ask nicely if I can have a sit in one or two as I visit the shows through the season and have a look at what is up for sale and pay very careful attention to the areas you have pointed out . Once again , thanks and your advice is very much appreciated . D.
  6. Come on now ........we all know that hoodies are just woolen anoraks don't we now :-D
  7. OK...I got no money , no space , no time , but I've been looking at this again : http://www.milweb.net/webverts/24555/ Nearly bought one a couple of years ago but things went seriously wrong for me at the time & I had to back out . Tell me the points for and against living with one and what to look out for . Thanks guys . D
  8. Will post some pics if I ever get the hang of it ! The Bedford engine that was being offered turned out to be short of quite a lot of bits & more work than he wants to take on so the search goes on ..... I'm hoping to get to the garrison show this year but I think I'm gigging that night and getting away & sorted so I'm at wherever it is I'm supposed to be by 7.30 is problematic .
  9. Seen quite a few HET's around here going in and coming out of the garrison . Unfortunately no pics . the only good opportunity I had was sat in traffic in roadworks and a convoy of them came past - my lens ain't that wide angle to fit them in .
  10. According to the couple of books I have the model N's seconded to the RAF were either Land Utility (civilian) or industrial versions . A 1939 model would have the wide wings as the narrow wing didn't come in until shortages later in the war made them look into ways of saving metal . Seems as if RAF tractors had braking fitted - Harper is one make mentioned - and lighting sets . Most of the Fordsons used by the RAF were industrial models fitted with LP tyres and the 1938 batch also had cabs . Some had 28" tyres fitted which combined with the 11:1 axle ratio of the industrial tractor lead to the fastest Fordson ever where a direct throttle link made for a top speed of 40mph if pushed ! A spate of accidents lead to governors being fitted to the last batch produced . Colour for civilian tractors was the standard green of the period but Raf machines were more often than not painted the drab blue gray of the wartime era . Hope this is of some use - this is by no means definitive nor am I in any way an expert please correct me if anyone has greater knowledge . D
  11. Hi Gareth - and Loraine - and welcome . we've not met up yet but I hear about you frequently - I'm Phil's (he of the DAF YA & SUMB) brother .Have you been over to Shaun's to look at the Mog yet ?
  12. Can I add my congratulations to everybody else's &wish you all good wishes for a happy and healthy future for your newly enlarged family . D
  13. Welcome home David . You're going to find a huge number of very friendly people here . Good to hear you were one of ours - I live on the approaches to Fingringhoe Ranges. If you've not been around recently you wouldn't believe how much the garrison is changing . D :-o
  14. Wanna flag .....wanna flag..........wanna wanna wanna .............Waaaaaaahhhhh
  15. Four wheel drive really doesn't work as well when two of them are in the air you know....there just isn't the traction ! :-D Simon - good place to look for bits is ebay . Always seem to be 404 bits coming up , even dropside/flatbed bodies occasionally . Westfield 4x4 have an ebay shop and always have loads of 404 bits and some panels . Bit pricey but what isn't ? I've also found that Simon Ward at Atkinson Vos is really helpful although they mostly deal with newer stuff these days . Good luck . D
  16. Ironic - when it was snowing here this week I couldn't go out to play in mine as it's currently trapped in the garage with my dead Ford Falcon Ute and my box trailer in front of the door ! :shake:
  17. Thanks Lee , if Barry still has the same one it is the one which was shown in CMV some time back at Sennybridge TA camp & is one of the few surviving Falklands ST's , the other one he sold to Phil Chatfield & is being rebuilt .
  18. Thanks Chris - thought it was going to be mine as that was where it was when I first saw it for sale but your pic is another one its a Royal Marines ST - got the boxes on the side , the mount on the front & (I think) the widened back doors .
  19. Thanks Matt - we knew there was one in that general area but don't have any details . I've also heard there may be another ex Royal Marines example in suffolk .
  20. Can I ask all you guys a favour . A while ago we started to compile a register of surviving military ST's . Remember the funny little red Matchbox toys ? Always seemed a strange choice of vehicle to turn out as a toy but that's another story for somebody else to tell.....Anyway , that's where my interest in them started , then finding odd bits in 4x4 mags and such , then in more recent times the odd mention of finds in CMV . This lead to me buying my ST which was advertised as ex reserve stock but turned out to have been a range runabout for the RAE in Scotland & Wales . Through letters and whatnot I met up with the man whose father developed them for use by the RMC and he owns two , one fitted with a Wombat , the other undergoing an extensive rebuild now , we started looking out for and noting down other survivors . Sadly , so far , that only amounts to about ten . If , on your travels and explorations you happen to come across one , could you please let me know ? I don't intend using any information for commercial purposes or passing it on to anybody else . It's just for my own satisfaction . I'd love to have the serial number which should be on a small plate just by the back door and , better still , any reg no if any are still visible . thanks guys , any info will make an old anorak very happy .
  21. :-D Thanks Ian . ........Probably a me problem actually but I've been to my happy place, and I'm not going to sulk anymore........well , not for at least ten minutes anyway .
  22. Had two attempts at posting in the Roadsure/Footman James topic first time failed second time told its off limits to me . Gonna go sulk now . :argh: :help: :computerterror2:
