  1. Hi Re R Cubed. I think the Reo was on the way to Laughton as there was one from the Portsmouth area attending.Very helpful owner gave me some good info for mine. M
  2. I downplated my Reo using SV Tech. Nice guys and very helpful. M

    info@southernindustrialfasteners.co.uk

    Kind regards,

    Martin

  4. Hi Reos are fairly easy to drive but noisy so I extended my exhaust and cut it off level and fitted a flap. I had a 4 hour drive to Beaulieu and appreciated the relative quiet. Running costs are good. Best wishes, M
  5. Hi We took our DUKW to the first one. I remember a searchlight! From little acorns..................... M
  6. There was an item on the news last night.Asda have apparently dropped prices in response to lower oil prices.Whether the others will follow remains to be seen. Trouble is, the Government then ups the duties and taxes! I recall many years ago a representative of one of the oil producing countries was defending their huge increase (so probably '70's) by saying that what they charged was only a fraction of what our government added in tax! M
  7. When I was taking my 101 for it's pre-registration MOT(so it had no number plates or tax disc), I passed an officer who simply saluted! When bringing a DUKW back down the M4, 2 traffic officers 'detained' us until we gave them a guided tour! M
  8. Hi I think that we walk a very narrow tight-rope. We must remember the horrors of conflict in the hope that we may avoid a repetition but we must not glorify matters generally. When I was a child my father would not even let me wear his naval officer's cap because he felt so strongly about who should wear uniform.I still feel a bit 'awkward' in green especially as there are current conflicts that we are involved in. However I think that wearing green generally does add to the atmosphere of the show. Ultimately I think that we can countenance anything that does not cause offence to any of the Veterans. Although all my immediate relatives were involved in the Forces going back to the Boer War, the nearest I would want to get to incoming rounds was butt marking at Bisley! Surely the simple message is to enjoy all aspects of militaria as long as it does not give offence. M
  9. Hi I would suggest you try here........ http://steelsoldiers.com/ There is a wealth of knowledge. M
  10. Hi My lad came in from work last night He thought he would avoid the chaos that is the Culfail tunnel by driving through Glynde. Guess what he followed for the next 3 miles! M
  11. Hi Another factor I consider worthy of mention is that sometimes, in order to 'justify' ownership, the vehicle also has to be capable of use other than at shows. My truck has therefore been modified to achieve this and the outward appearance has barely altered.Internally the body is empty and we have removed one ton of surplus bits! M
  12. Hi Just to add my twopennyworth! If it is a run of the mill vehicle I see no problem with 'field modifications' provided that they are not done to defraud. It would be a shame if rare vehicles are 'spoilt' but ultimately if it's yours...................... I would also rather see a sympathetically modified vehicle on the road than a 'pedantic' version stuck in a museum . M
  13. Hi I am going down the plating at 7500kgs and class 4 MOT route. M
  14. Hi I'm biased but I like Reos. Nice looking and sounding and cheap to run. Plenty of space and not too slow on the road. M
  15. You bet! I did once take her down Ditchling High St on the way to a charity event.A tight fit! M
  16. Of course the Danish flat countryside was not overly taxing. Cliffe High Street would have presented more of a challenge! M
  17. She could have as she was a biker when we met.It was our mate's brother in law. We went to the Danish equivalent of Box Hill. Very advanced bike (4 cyl and shaft drive) for 1930s. M
  18. We were in Holbeck and visited Copenhagen. I also got a local tour in the sidecar of a Nimbus motor bike. M
  19. Hi, That was me.Got it from Glos area.Sold it locally and borrowed it for Beltring last year. Now have a Reo. M
  20. Hi Sorry, no pics as passing on bus or in car and thus very brief looks! Reos were in yards with what seemed to be drivable trucks so may have been OK. M
  21. Hi Just went to Denmark on a coach! Initially disappointed as I only saw a 'Jeep' in the distance at Calais (we were checked by armed French officials). In Denmark saw a Series LR, G Wagen, Mowag Piranha, 2 x Daf 6 x 6. On the way home saw Reo's in two yards on the A21 between Antwerp and Brussels and a Blazer in Lille. Was spooked by Bramen and Hamburg. All those new 'old' buildings courtesy of the Allies! M
  22. Hi Try Baz Ridley, Southern Industrial Fasteners,03702 246386. http://www.southernindustrialfasteners.co.uk (mention me) or Namrick, 124 Portland Rd, Hove, Brighton, E Sussex. 01273 736963 Good luck. Martin Cross
  23. I never had a murmur from madam about a vehicle provided there was a quid pro quo (or two quid..........!!). Started with a DUKW (even moved to a house with a DUKW sized garden) and had been getting smaller vehicles but now got another Reo. Trick is to know what you can get without causing problems....................... M
  24. Hi I want to kit my vehicle out as a camper and want some light cupboards and seats etc. Rather than using an old caravan I wondered if I could utilise anything from an aeroplane. We had a row of Jumbo seats in my 101. Does anyone know an aircraft dismantler in Souhern England? Thanks, M
  25. Hi I am wondering if it is Ok to ditch the spare and carry one of the very modern roadside puncture repair kits for commercials or pre treat with a suitable 'puncture proofer'. These are advertised as being able to repair huge holes and are designed to avoid the need to change wheels in hazardous situations. Has anyone used anything like this? Also, if a front has to be changed is it OK to 'borrow' one of the rear twins given the truck is well below its load weight? I am trying to save weight! Thanks, M
