  1. Great photos Les, thankyou. Are the infantry camera shy, they seem to be running away
  2. just looked, the manual is from 1976. Obviously a bad year for manuals
  3. This one came with the saracen, I think it was updated in the early 70's, but I'll check
  4. Brilliant photos, some very powerful. Thanks for the link Paul
  5. Thats very odd. I have removed the covers and found seperate filler and dipstick for gearbox and transfer box, as you say. Why on earth does my manual go through how to check gearbox oil level, but just says that the transfer box shares the same lubrication system as the gearbox? Was there a different gear/transfer box on some saracens? Paul
  6. Yep, I'd agree with that, had the same on a Volvo FL6 we used to run, turned out a fuel pipe had rubbed against a bracket for goodness knows how long and eventually made a hole.
  7. Now you're talking, do you do an overnight service, I've got three mv newbies for you to educate while I sleep:)
  8. Hi Les, love the photos you keep coming up with. The boxes on top are actually rain catchers, the rainwater funnels straight into the top of the radiator, its the only way you can drive for more than 10 miles without overheating:) Only works in wet weather though. Cheers Paul
  9. Congratulations!! I tried to make my family of three into a family of four too, but unexpectedly had twins the second time!!! Still not enough to fill a saracen yet though
  10. Hi Guys Reading this thread it seems that the transfer box and gearbox have different oils, (SAE30 in gearbox & EP90 in transfer box etc). However, according to my manual it says that the gearbox and transfer box share the same lubrication and my impression was that the same filler and dipstick do both. Which is it please?? as I have found gearbox oil is a little low. Thanks Paul
  11. Sorry Montie, you know as much as I do about my saracen's mil reg., I'm intrigued about the possible stamp under the fuel tank though, hmmmmmm.... Cheers Paul
  12. Thats just bad news all the way........... if you were near here Simon (Devon that is) you would be welcome to fix it here and use one of my forklifts. I think my flywheel was leaking at the drain plugs, but not 100% yet. Would like to see how you get on with your fix, photos if poss please, there are others who might find them useful in the near future!!!! Cheers Paul
  13. Hi Fasttrax Got any photos of the job in hand?? Cheers Paul
  14. Oil level still at the top this morning When I was testing it last night there was a loud kind of bang from behind, like a hydraulic line under pressure blowing. Thought "oh s**t" whats gone wrong now, anchored up, engine off and scooted round behind the drivers seat. Luckily, I hadn't secured my paint pot full of spanners down and they had fallen off and spread across the metal floor. Few Paul
  15. Right, taken her out, for around another 10 minutes, and actually got some life out of the temp gauge, thats a first. However, everytime I put my foot down the temperature dropped a little before returning, it was showing at about one notch off of max., then after I rev'ed up a straight bit of field the needle fell and stayed low. Anyone else had these kind of issues? Also, when the heat was up she spat at me a bit over the bonnet, a bit of water coming out past the filler cap. I think we are having a power struggle. However, the main event was that the "mist" didn't return!!! Tomorrow I'll check the oil level in the fluid flywheel again and then I'll know, or at least I'll know its okay for 10 minutes at a time now. Fingers crossed Paul
  16. Thanks for the heads up re: morris lubricants, the ISO 10 turned up last night. I filled up the flywheel (needed a couple of pints or so) and ran the engine for 5 minutes, stationary with a few boughts of revs. Checked it today (20 hours later) and the oil level has not moved. Will get a chance to take her out for a spin this evening to see if the issue is persisting. Fingers crossed the new washers on the filler plugs have sorted the problem and it isnt the seal. Not feeling that lucky though....... Cheers Paul
  17. Yes Simon, I think you are right, flywheel it probably is. Have you measured the oil level before and after a trip. If it is losing a litre on a short trip like that then I think it is too much to put up with. Still, it is a big job though........................... Paul
  18. I know what you mean about the fwd/rev lever, very confusing going from saracen to ferret or vice versa. With your oil leak, do you get an oil mist when the engine is warm? I ask because thats what my saracen is doing and looks like a flywheel leak. Cheers Paul
  19. Hi Mark Are you saying the military registration number was stamped on the floor? Thanks Paul
  20. Hi John Thanks for the info. Do you know anything about the contracts that were placed? I have a date in service and a sale number from the MOD but no mil. reg. I would like to narrow it down a bit if I could. Date in service was june 1959. Cheers Paul
  21. Putting the health and saftey stuff to one side for a moment, I'd just like to say its great to see someone having fun with their MV and having the guts to put it through it's paces..... Awesome piece of kit the stolly. Paul
  22. Monty, is that your saracen or the space shuttle?? Looks like alot of controls in there
  23. I'm sure everyone would be interested to see the photos mate, but if someone OWNS one of those mv's then the photos would be like the holy grail to them. Please post a few, especially the saracen acv please. Cheers Paul
