  1. I think I'm putting my money on the Livens Projector so far
  2. Yes Pete but only just managed to dodge the showers, as regards the box yes that's what I'd read about somewhere but not sure if the cables were fired out of a tube or drawn out by a rocket type projectile what got me thinking was the stencil 6 CHARGES PROJECTOR FZE ELEC as it doesn't sound like artillery to me.
  3. Bit more progress today with the passenger side rear wheel box being finished Then it was time to fire the old girl up and get it out of the shed, that's after removing all the accumulated crap from under it I have to complete a number of jobs on the drivers side so need to turn the truck around to allow access. Safely back in loads of stuff to do.
  4. I seem to recall reading about an airfeild defence system used during the battle of Britain where rockets carrying a wire rope were fired in front of oncoming enemy aircraft I cannot remember what it was called or the caliber of the rockets used will continue to trawl my book collection in the hope of more info, could this box have been used to carry the charges as I'm struggling to think of anything else that used electric fused charges.
  5. How many vehicle owners have PLI up to £5 million ? Not that many I suspect, all shows I attend require that you have PLI to some extent, though they all differ in their wording there seems to be no standard minimum requirements I think that a clarification from a show organiser would be helpful. Personally I think the mvt PLI scheme is a good idea for vehicle owners who attend various steam rallies etc throughout the year.
  6. At the risk of seeming a bit dim what on earth was M.L 8-in projector
  7. Thanks again Keith the pics yes please put me down for a copy on the bedford mw's roughly what size will the book be printed in ? Pm details and cost please
  8. Yes that's exactly what I intend to use it for myself I'll probably bolt it down in't back of the truck and use it as secure storage, whilst keeping the original finish just be nice to know it's original use.
  9. OK have done a bit of carefull cleaning and so far have uncovered these markings - 6 CHARGES PROJECTOR FZE ELEC LOT A 7243 On the lid is stamped A12 ELX 1 1939 The box measures 26" x 17" and is 8.5" deep Be nice to know it's original use
  10. Tell us more about the book what's the subject and when do you hope to put it in print ? You can put me down for a copy if it's going to contain lots of 15 cwt pics
  11. Thanks Keith for posting those very interesting photos, details which are good for reference regarding my restoration any more you'd like to post
  12. Ok back to the MW, as the sun was shining and I'm a year older today it was an early finish at work and off down t'shed to play finally managed to get some paint on the engine panels Plus my mate Neil donated this 1939 dated large ammo box Will need to do some research as to what it was used to store.
  13. Hi Danny had a look at the remains of my box but it was more corroded than yours.
  14. Well its been a quiet weekend down't shed, picked up the paint sat morning then had to sort out some storage and fix up a new LED strip light that was donated to the cause, what difference adequate lighting makes ! Only managed to fit the bckts to the drivers side mud flaps and got round to bolting the rear body to the chassis bit more of a tidy up ready to turn the truck around to access the offside and henry hoover had a beating cleaning all the sawdust and crap out of the rear body. At the risk of hijacking my own thread I managed to spray my helmets for want of a better expression on Sunday having already given them a coat of truck green it didn't take too much paint to bring them up to snuff. Difficult to see with the flash on the camera but the overturned helmet has original paint dating from 1939 the other has the new finish. The helmet upper right also has the original paint which looks a closer match. Next thing is to sort out the blanco for some webbing will be making my own I think.
  15. I think I may still have the remains of a cab box that came off the MW I found in the apple Orchard I'll photo the remains on Sat when I go down to the shed
  16. Great progress there, it's good to see that truck getting the restoration it deserves thanks for posting the pics, brings back fond memories
  17. Mmmmmmmm the plot thickens :-D just trawled through quite a few pathe newsreels from the B. E. F. Period and most helmets look to have a smooth eggshell finish with some having covers of some kind Maybe hessian ?
  18. Today I have been mainly bashing the living daylights out of the rear wheel arches. NS rear wheel removed to allow inner wheel arch panel to be fitted. One end panel. End panel with bend. End panel temporarily fitted prior to paint , which reminds me that I managed to scoot up to Middletons in Gloucester first thing this morning to order another gal of the green stuff plus some touch up spray cans and left the slightly bemused staff with the tin helmet as a pattern for a couple of cans of baby pooey greenish paint will be interesting to see what a newly painted lid will look like.
  19. The pics on page 46 of my resto blog, I forgot to mention that you'll need to use your original pump upper half so the fuel pipe fittings line up
  20. Yes I have one fitted to my Bedford MW, I used the lower body from a spare champ fuel pump I had as it uses the same hole pattern just swapped the actuating arms over, fitted a new rebuild kit diaphragm, valves etc and away to go :-D I think I might have posted some pics on my restoration blog, hope I've been of help RR.
  21. Thanks for the pics ,I searched through my collection of 30 odd helmets and have found one 39 dated example with the inside original paint still present that looks very similar in colour to your helmet, am going to see my paint supplier on Sat to mix some more of the good stuff for the MW so will ask if they will make up some spray cans of the baby pooish colour :-D first two without flash second two with.
  22. Thanks luke yes the panels turned out ok in the end, now I think about it I'm collecting B.E.F. kit to go with the truck and have a number of tin hats that I want to repaint to the original 39/40 colour, any idea what it should be ?
  23. Hi luke Long time no hear :-D Yes made my own panels in the end as regards to bench seats, are you intending to carry passengers in the back of your truck ? as you may need to be carefull regarding the law and insurance I'm sure someone on here will know more than me on that issue, it might pay to post a question elsewhere on this issue. As for timber do you just want slatted seats made out of 2x1 pse runners, a bit like airing cupboard shelving. That's probably the best and easiest way to go using European redwood from your local builders merchants,
