  1. Well my moment of fame has finished. Bit of a whacky show, but we had fun and I think my son was the real star! He was made up that our lorry driver won and that our Landy and Piggy were the best load as a result. At least when I can get the vehicles out there complete I can add to the descriptions that they starred in Shipping Wars 2015 on Channel 4. It all adds to the charm and info for discussion with the public. I am no nearing to knowing what previous film or TV debut the PIGGY had painted as a RIOT CONTROL Truck???? Only time will tell on that one. I know people won't have had as much fun watching it as I did taking part. Just glad it all got televised. I think it was mid 2014 when I took the Friday of work to do it. At least the vehicles are home and more accessible, which was the whole reason for approaching 'Shiply' for a quote in the first place.
  2. Aww Thanks guys... I guess it all ends tonight. The repeat and back tracking is a pain. I must confess myself. I am glad I have come across as sensible and not tooooo much of a nerd! My son was very impressed to see himself and is looking forward tonight to being another cuttie on TV. It was an experience and a bit of fun, so I have to say I enjoyed my moment of fame! Nobody has stopped me for an autograph though yet! Thanks for following my TV debit guys :-D
  3. I spotted the first one that was on yesterday and at the end before they ran the credits is gave a preview of what was coming up later in the week. I saw a brief glimpse of me steering the 'Toastie' onto the trailer as it was being towed on..... They described the episode of transporting two historic vehicles! Having seen the first one and the jibbing the drivers give each other under critique it should be quite a giggle. The driver I had. 'Russel' certainly had a sense of humor, that's for sure! Mind you the episode last night had one driver getting very peeved off, when he could drive on the Le Mans jaguar into his trailer...... I don't think I had Russel getting hot under the collar, but time will tell when he is interviewed in the episode! All good fun I guess??
  4. Nigel My Piggy is quite sensitive to dirty plugs. Idiot question but did you try fresh / clean ones? Just an idea. Great news on saving another one
  5. Well spotted matey. That's my babies............ Not spotted on the C4 advert yet, but they are there alright in the Utube add.......... Whoop Whoop!...... Ohh Fek I hope its good telly now ?????:blush::blush::undecided::undecided::undecided::undecided::undecided::undecided::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
  6. I was chatting with Clive recently and thought I would add something to my thread for others to comment also. A problem shared and all that! I noticed recently after running up the Humber and checking the plugs recently that the plugs in 1,2,&3 are all a little blackened and sooty looking. In contrast 4,5 &6 are all live new and wetted. When I took the 'Y' manifold off I noticed that the exhaust manifolds off 1-3 were dry and 4-6 wet with fuel. Clive suggested whipping of the cover on the carb and inspecting the accelerator diaphragm pumps /covers but before I do that has anyone had a similar episode with the Solex 40 NNIP twin carbs??
  7. Boris they are the same spoke pattern as the series 1 and early 2 Landrovers. Apart from the wingnut and the quarter point indents in the rim you could mistake for landrover. Especially Mk8. If they fit your steering rack on your toastie then it may be an affordable near original pattern wheel for a Rover Mk8 or older. Can the bolt and wingnut be removed / perhaps replaced with a standard nut and bolt? Just an idea as the old original landrover steering wheels like this are getting rarer and expensive! :cool2:
  8. Some of you may recall that the moving of my Humber and Landy were filmed for C4 on the above programme. You may have seen the trailer ads being shown on C4 recently. C4 have contacted me that it will be on one of the nights in the first weeks episodes from 2nd Feb. Whilst I have no idea how they have portrayed me in the programme or the final edited version I can only wait with some intrepedation to watch how it turned out! I hope I don't look like a complete sad prat! They did ask me to do some interesting shots, but as I say no idea what went into the final edit...... The truck driver Russell is a character, so it should be either entertaining or a disaster.....?? I will let you all decide if you watch it. If nothing else I did a bit to advertise the hobby / obsession we all share. Just wanted to drop a post as many people ask me when was it on! I was originally told Nov 14, so its a bit later than I thought too. Cheers
  9. Great suggestion by Richard..... welded the nuts on the two longer studs and came out a treat!! Last one had snapped off close to manifold so not much to weld too, but gave it a go....... Just kept shearing with a bit of the stud on the welded nut. Its now so short that I cannot get anything on it......Always one difficult one and always the last one. Will have to drill and hopefully use a stud extractor bit. Letting it soak in Deox-C solution first so that it may penetrate the rust around the threads as a helper / easer!
  10. Cheep tool acquired on eBay to assist with brake and fuel line replacements etc. looks well made and imperial too.
  11. Clive 'EP'...... Only Joking! SAE30 actually...... I have no idea what was in there before though????? :undecided: Whatever it was it was empty! I'll get the area cleaned off and see where the drip starts from. I'll let you know more when I am able. Cheers
  12. Oops! I noticed that my gearbox was very low on oil so added some, only to see 24hours later a oil patch on the ground. Time to investigate perhaps. I may be lucky and find it's the washer on the drain plug...... :undecided: Likely to be an oil seal I guess.......:-( Must get stuck into sorting the brakes though..... Need a KICK up the bottom.
  13. I am 46 and have had military vehicles and an interest since I was about 33. My son has a young interest, shared with diggers and such like at the age of 4. He has already asked to paint both my vehicles and has told me they must be sand coloured after he saw some army vehicles on the motorway on a prime mover..........:red: As I younger enthusiast I recall liking the mature members around me being so knowledgeable and I longed for the day I knew so much. I am slowly getting there, but like a lot of us rely heavily on my new friends made and the expertise of others. This is a great forum to be a part of. Cheers Wayno
  14. $17,000 in that condition! :wow: I can only assume Clive that if it sells for that amount. Yours is worth considerably more? Nice to know always I guess values can only increase over time for all of us.
  15. Seems to be the same maker. PO also lived in Brum :undecided:
  16. A Wee bit Saxon! Great Rover Mk8 image though
  17. Hi Jeremy HNY and I hope you and Caroline had a nice break I regret that I didn't get to do any of what I had planned to do on the Piggy over the Christmas break. I ran her up once and that was about it. The family commitments and the weather hampered my plans. You are the right guy for the joinery perfection on yours that's for sure mate! I managed to acquire some small bits and bobs of parts, but nothing juicy. I need to collect those more interesting items from Clive in the near future I need to borrow a trailer or a flat bed with a Winch! :-X:D
  18. Thanks Guys I will do some more homework. No sharp cutting edge at all Clive. Update to follow. Chap who owned them was previously a builder so no idea how or where he acquired them :undecided: I thought the stamp said 'Brindley 1008'????
  19. Gobsmacked I haven't had any response on this one from the Brothers Collective! Surely this hasn't stumped the experts????? :wow:
  20. OX8 is brake fluid by the way and it is the sworn enemy of IRR paint. Used old-styleee brake fluid (probably not the silicone based modern stuff) is effective and cheap (free even from your local garage - ask for their used stuff). Paint it on and keep painting it on for a week. With luck the majority of the IRR paint will wash off with a pressure washer. I know this because it is how we used to do tank transporter trailer beds! Will this work on other paints or just IRR? I have noticed on my LR Mk8 FFR that over time the two colours on top of the DBG are coming off in large layer chunks, which have been assisted by the pressure washer. I wondered if the use of OX8 was a way of removing the layers on top of the DBG factory finish. Will it hard the DBG finish? Will it remove the paint from Galv parts effectively and not affect the properties of the Galv? Cheers to the experienced guys out there!
  21. I removed mine as it gets in the way doing some cutting. Also much better using a Flapper disc with it off too. You wont get full disc down as the centre ring can damage the surface easily, but you get more area of disc. As with all these things, wearing the right PPE and going steady is the key. Good Hunting
