  1. Nice example, any chance of some close ups? Can I ask if you sourced it from a dealer or not, and if so do they have any more!
  2. Seem to remember an article on this in Wheels and Tracks, can't get to my copies currently to check though.

I'm a 10/m or l, have been looking on e-bay. Will look again. Comments noted on driving in-ability, may be case of changing when I get to shows. Thanks

Trying to put together a suitable (80's) outfit to wear with my L/W landrover but am struggling with the foot wear. Was thinking of DMS, (i thought the rubber sole would be more forgiving when driving) but these seem hard to sourc. Lots of guard parade boots out their but not sure about driving with studded boots! Anyone have any other thoughts ?
  5. Senior Quantity Surveyor working for a large developer of commercial office buildings in London. And please don't ask what a Quantity Surveyor is....(as no one ever seems to know!)
  6. Visited on the Saturday only, my first MV show with an actual MV! In fact if I'd more than 5 days to prepare (I only acquired my landie the weekend before) I would stayed the weekend. This show just keeps getting better, in fact I can't recall a bad Essex MVT show, I do still miss the feel of the ones at Tilbury though. I think the appeal is lots of activities for the non military minded (£5 all day access to the bouncy castle kept my daughter happy) and the overall relaxed atmopshere. My wife came sperate to me with my daughter, she won't travel (currently) in the lightweight and there is no way of securing a child seat, and she had a very long walk from the MOP car park, which was her only moan. Good range of vehicles on display and managed to buy a few 'essential' items from the traders. Flypast by the BBMF was amazing, shame the usual mix of private planes were unable to attend. My only regret was not taking a picture of my own vehicle at my first show! Does anyone have a pic of a lightweight landrover reg BOT510V (had the name Pearl on the bridge plate)? I was parked next to the two dodge weapons carriers and the series 2 landrover ambulance.
  7. Had a great day there yesterday as a MOP, conditions are as reported with many of the main routes around the vehicle fields almost impassable to vehicles and have been shut off, you definatly need wellies if visiting. Stall areas are good with just a few boggy areas. Public car is dry. Numbers are down though, there are noticeable gaps in both the display fields and the stalls (I think this is made worse by the no-go areas). Despite all that though the show is as good as ever. They did open late yesterday, (about 9.35), apparently due to elf and safety and I did feel sorry for the poor security guy who had to stand by the gate fielding questions from 400 pi**ed off punters eager to get in ! Just getting ready for todays visit and the weather is currently dry and the sun is up!
  8. Thanks for all the info, had a look at the l/r in question yesterday, not a bad vehicle and as you all have said the o/d makes a difference. Still not sure I have found the right one yet to buy though.
  9. Lovely, makes me want to cry, I am struggling finding any good examples in my area.
  10. Well the first Lwt I looked at, the deal fell through, seller changed his mind the day after I looked at it (should have bought there and then). I am due to see a second which has the above, anybody got experince of this overdrive, I have been reading mixed reviews, so thought it best to come to a place I can trust. It also has road tyres fitted rather than xcl's, presume this improves (!) road noise a lot, but I prefer the look the look of the xcl, anyone know how much a set of 4 would cost?
  11. Very nice, that is the only downside of owning a 4x4, when it snows you have no excuse not to make it into work!
  12. Thanks for all the advice, all duly noted. Rest assured vehicle will stay as is in its military state, I have been a militaria collector for over 20 years, with my primary interst being WW2 but over the last two years I have started on post war militaria and have hankered after a jeep or small MV for all that time. Unfortunately due to work commitments and having lived in London with no garage (typically when jeeps were cheap - less that £6,000!) I was unable to buy. When we made the decison to move to the country a garage was a pre-requsite, unfortunatley its taken me the last 7 years to get round to actually buying something. I still hanker after a jeep but prices have put me off and next on my list would be a landie. I have been an MVT member for nearly 10 years and have been a member on this forum almost since it started, so am not entering the world of MV ownership completely blind, I just want to make sure my first purchase is not a wrong-un. Judging by the feed back I have had from the seller (I hope he is not a forum member and I've caused any offence..) the vehicle in question looks genuine and seems well looked after. I am due to see it at the weekend, so hopefully (fingers crossed) will be finally joining you all in the hobby I love. Once again thanks all for your help and comments.
  13. Guys Thanks for your comments. The owner (apparently) is an EMRLA member and has owned the vehicle for a while (its been to Beltring a few times, i can recall seing it there). Seems to have been returned to a fairly original state, split tailgate, new tyres in a similar pattern to original (but larger), starting handle under bonnet, bench seats etc. Has had clutch and master slave cylinders replaced (whatever they are...) One outrigger been replaced the rest of the chassis is claimed to be okay. Rear cross member is said to be okay for ages if looked after, by being dosed in oil? (it comes with replacement). Tony B, I am based near Tonbridge not a stones through from the mecca that is Beltring. I had originally considered a 110 but a L/W will fit in my garage. Anything else would need to on the lane I live along and i have to consider the vehicle security and my neighbours !
  14. I am about to (after 12 years!) make my first foray into MV ownership, but could do with some advice. I am considering buying a lightweight landrover which is advertised on a well known MV site, but have no mechanical knowledge at all. I have read a few of the guides but apart from rust on the chassis/bulkhead are there any other known weaknesses? How does one check if four wheel drive works okay ? Anything else I should check? Also what are they like to maintain? I assume most of you do this yourselves, I'd be looking to take it somewhere, any recommendations in the west kent area? Any guidance would be most appreciated.
  15. I think this was covered by either MMI or CMV magazine a couple of years ago, the vehicle was laid up at soemwhere like Withams and was rumoured to be going to a new owner in the States. I'll try to dig the mag and details out later.
  16. I have 2 books written by Mike Hoare on the campaign, which have numerous photos of the jeeps and ferrets, there are also photos in a book about mercenary forces I have. Unfortunately all of them are in storage at the moment, but I'll see if I can dig them and scan the photos next weekend
  17. I too would go with Duxford, the land warfare hall is too dark, making photography difficult and the exhibits are packed in too tight. They have a great selection of WW2 softskin, which you can only see either the back or front off, its such a shame.
  18. Had a quick look through the British Army in Ulster, unfortunately the 16/5 lancers are not one of the units that get a special mention, however in Book 1, in the border war section it does mention their part. It refers specifically to three incidents, the first involving a saracen (its comander smelt the home made explosives of a mine just prior to detonation, the driver braked and the sadcan ended up in the resulting crater) and the second two both involving ferret a/cs, one of which is the incident mentioned above where a cpl was killed, (although it references it taking place on the 27 October 1971) this being the first casualty the regiment suffered within hours of taking the operational area over.
  19. The best WW2 BD on the market currently is made by a company called Pegasus Militaria, a set is around £200. There are cheaper sets available from Warhorse trading, from memory araound £150, for jacket, trousers and and GS cap, equally as good. If you check out any of the threads on the WW2 Reenacting website to do with BD you will get a good idea. Other suppliers are Soldier of Fortune, Sutlers and What Price Glory (in the States) I think its a case of of paying your money and taking your choice. For occassional use I would go for the Warhorse set, you can't go wrong for the money.
  20. Up until a few years ago there was a coles crane in yellow sitting on the edge of a scrap yard out the back of Parkstone (Bournemouth/Poole) it vanished when I think the yard was moved. With regards pictures, there were a few published in I think CMV magazine last year, there are also a few books that I obtained through the library as a kid on RAF transport which had pictures in, Airfix also produced a modelling book specifically on RAF vehicles and there may be some in that. My interest is that during the war my grandad was a driver (left a Cpl) in the RAF (TAF 2) and drove a coles crane through France/Germany, I have a few pictures of him with it, plus variuos others of Austin K6 bomb flats and a myriad of other transport. All my militaira etc is currently in storage while my cellar is being refurbished but when it comes back mout I'll post some pics.

Bovington Tank Museum also has an example of a German WW1 howitzer.
