    W+P 2022 ?

Summer fun occurs every year, but it’s contained within the hop farm main site. The entrance to W&P moved from the main site to the field when the show relocated back from the race course, so family’s not attending W&P could still access the kids activities. it will be interesting to see if they promote the show at all at the Luke’s of Malvern etc like they have in the past.

    W+P 2022 ?

I see from a post on the W+P site, they are due to attend some of the commemorative events in Normandy next month- might be worth putting forward the concerns of the mv community direct to them there. Unfortunately I’m not able to go😩

    W+P 2022 ?

I truly hope not, whilst W+P has had many detractors over the years (notably toilet and shower gate) in its own way it had become an institution, its size, duration and support from the EU mv community etc made it unique. It would be a shame to loose it in this way. I know there are other shows, who maybe support owners better or are more user friendly but none can surpass W+P in it heyday. I just hope the new owners take note of the comments being made across this forum and the many FB pages and reengage with the mv / reenactment community.

    W+P 2022 ?

They must have been monitoring these posts! Posted recently, love the headline ‘nothing to see here,’ as judging by posts on here and most of the FB forums …. There won’t be 🤣🤣

    W+P 2022 ?

Less than 24 hours since my last post and W+P have just posted on FB that now 300+ vehicles are attending 🤔 @ 100 vehicles a day, we’ll soon be back to the glory days of W+P !

    W+P 2022 ?

Todays announcement from W+P - over 200 vehicles booked in - anyone remember what they used to have ? Can’t get to my old programmes now. I see if you enter as a MOP on the day it’s £30, only £25 if you pre book.

    W+P 2022 ?

I see Bruce Compton has been confirmed as a guest, I wonder if he’s getting paid to attend or their charging him the entrance

    W+P 2022 ?

Ditto, some years I’d go and camp the week, with the family joining me for a time, others I’d be a day tripper and go home each evening / often returning for the night activities. I appreciate for many it was a cheap (ish) weeks holiday camping at what was the premier MV show in Europe, but with increased cost, the overall downturn in the show numbers of MVs (especially armour), stalls etc since the takeover and the rise of many other (free in many cases) shows it is less appealing. be interesting to see the build-up in the days before and if it looks promising attend as a MOP. I am sure the lure of it as it’s so near will be hard resist if only to pick up a bargain from stalls not selling anything !

    W+P 2022 ?

So someone has asked the same question over on the MVT Facebook page and subsequently rung the Hop Farm direct, they were told that apparently discussions are ongoing with the show organisers ……

    W+P 2022 ?

Interesting… with only 6 months to go you’d think they’d have the website up for bookings etc. Hence why I thought I’d ask if anyone who had booked had received a notification of their intentions this year. Guess it’s a wait and see !
  12. Has anyone had any notifications on W+P for this year? Wasn’t booked in to the 2020 show as it conflicted with the annual family holiday, would have been the first I’d missed in 20yrs and with last year cancelled, thought I’d get in early and book this years, but note the website is not currently up and running yet……
  13. My kids would never forgive me if I got rid of it…. £9k doesn’t seem bad looking at the c*ap currently about, especially evilbay etc, although I do see a few mods like the arch extensions which aren’t to a purists taste. Seems to be little about currently, during lockdown one there wer quite a few gems around, but the ban on travel restricted viewing. I’ll look at your pm, whilst I fancy another mv my wife wants me to buy a classic car for goodwood etc so have also been looking at MK2 jags and V8 Daimler’s……..decisions decisions…. A Humber staff car would probably be the happy medium but then it spares/servicing etc or rather finding someone to do. The others are ok as we have good local specialists.
  14. Morning Ferg Have you given up on finding a lwt then? One has just popped up on the lwt Facebook page at £9k, looks ok from the photos and only a trailer. Funnily enough I have been looking for a 110 to add as a stable mate to your old lwt, can’t find the right one at the right price currently.
  15. I have a similar can and I’ve always wondered why the military would still be using this type of can in the 50,s vs the Jerry can. I think mine is 53 dated too.
  16. Yes, eBay has been being viewed copiously in between ‘working from home’, however its far too sterile, its the smell and diving in piles of kit to find the elusive treasure that I miss.....Plus the opportunity to either suffer from heat stroke or drown in the mud at the Hop Farm !! Plus the prices on eBay! Mind you when I can can justify stopping working, it may be a good opportunity to sort out the boxes of kits I don’t need and post it up on ebay. I have seen suggestions in some face book groups about having online shows with people posting pictures and info about their vehicles to enable visitors to virtually wander around a show.
  17. Yes was receiving positive face book messages from them up until about a week ago, but suspect it’s cancelled. Secretly I am pleased as this year I have had to book the family holiday at the start of the summer holidays (if that even goes ahead), so would have missed it, first for 15+ years...... With all the shows cancelled, not sure were I’m going to get my ‘fix’ this year, mind you my wallet will be fuller with no militaria purchasing opportunities !!
  18. I am sure W&P would never have become the largest mv show in the world if it had excluded the humble landrover (or Jeep and gmc which are always plentiful). It was always about scale for me, prior to mv ownership I could not believe how many people could afford to own, store and maintain MV’s and be willing to travel the distance (especiallyfrom Europe) to attend a show in Kent. As a collector only back then, trailing around the mundane to find the hidden nuggets was what drew to the far flung corners of the show ground, most mops give up just beyond the reenactors. Admittedly the quality (rarity) and variety of MV’s attending has reduced over years but is this solely down to the new owners .?
  19. But did you spot your old lightweight ?
  20. Always fancied an M201 myself , in French camo and dressed appropriately I think it would make a pleasant change on the mv scene, I see there are now a few re enactors portraying 1950’s French army as well. I did start collecting the appropriate uniform for this, but even M201’s are now expensive. The mahindra has has always been tempting as a fun vehicle, but having a lightweight LR ticks all the boxes currently in that respect.
  21. I think we all look back at the halcyon days of war and peace, but the Mv scene has moved on, back then i recall there were very few shows to go to, the biggest of course being W+P, closely followed by the national MVT show and the MVT show at south sea. Otherwise it was regional MVT (I always liked the one at Tilbury fort and the monthly militaria fair there) or steam railways which would run 40’s events. Stalls were plentiful, plenty of NOS coming out if France and other European countries, both mv’s and militaria, the likes of which we will never see again , at prices we will never see the likes of ! Now there are numerous shows up and down the country to go to and with many having just come back from a week in Normandy, another full week at W+P was probably too much for many, hence the reduced no’s. For me it’s still a great show, a week camping, among like minded people and despite the decreasing no of stalls I still manage to come home with a few bits to add to the collection. In truth for as long as I’ve been a member of this forum and numerous other reenactment forums people have derided the show, the location (why the south east and why move it Folkestone), why in July when the kids are still at school, the toilets and facilities (an ongoing saga before the open porta-poos), quad bikes, kids, the NLBA etc etc , but still ever year people attend, maybe we are all masochists !
  22. So have just registered and had a look around the site, have to say looks very quiet. America’s field is pretty empty with lots of spare pitches between vehicles, yes there are lots of roped off areas, but most seem to have some presence. in previous years the fields been full the weekend before, typical that the one year I am unable to stay the whole week, so haven’t camped theres plenty of space ! Last couple of years I have had to shoe horn the family in. I know there has been a lot of talk on various forums about boycotting the show, anyone else think its quiet? I see the vip loos Are back ! ,
  23. Was wondering how many MV owners have whilst exhibiting their MV been approached my a MOP who drove their actual vehicle whilst in service? I suspect it’s quite rare unless you display with with the correct no. plates or own armour. At the last war and peace, whilst in the queue to get in, A guy came bounding over the field to have a chat with me about my lightweight landrover, his openin line being “what’s that on the side of vehicle?” Now my landrover has rather distinct (what some would call German or iron crosses) croix de guerre crosses on the door. Getting this a lot I explain these marking where found by a previous owner under the paint and represent a vehicle of the 5th field artillery( Gibraltar gunners) who were awarded the guerre de guerre during WW1 and its now part of their insignia and worn on some of their vehicles. (Someone posted on the EMLRA forum they’d found similar on a 109 lr) He then asked if I was in 5th field, which I’m not and on looking at the military No. then went on to tell me a little of the history of the vehicle during it service. Apparently it was in the MT section and the only lightweight they had, it got christened the moon buggy and was used to hack about in. He also went on to say it never looked as good as it does now, which must be saying something as to my mind it’s currently in ‘in service’ condition so god know what it was like back then. Unfortunately the queue started to move and he bounded back off before I could get a chance to ask if he had any pictures of it whilst in service. He did take some pictures to show his mates that it still existed so I take it he was still serving. anyone else had similar experiences?
  24. Not sure the MVT would ever take it on, it could go back to being an IMPS show, but I suspect they stopped running it due to the huge administration required ( I am sure someone will enlighten us as to why their involvement ended ?) most of the big MVT shows I used to attend seemed to end due to this, (the Essex And Hampshire mvt shows which are both now run privately I believe). I was a MOP at W+P long before I owned a mv and as a collector it was the highlight of my year, for as long as I’ve been going both this forum and the re-enactment forums have all had something to say on how the show is run and from memory year on year it’s been much the same gripes (even during the Cadman era), toilets, showers, kids on quads, the NLBA, music, mud, dust, cost of exhibiting etc, all have appeared regularly as comments. But every year we come back. however I have to say it is noticeable that in the last two years the quality of the show has gone down, less trade stands, less exhibitors, even the entertainment (no jive aces, the wartime fashion shows etc).
