  1. Cheers John - as/when/if she comes home then there are some chips etc. on the visible engine surfaces that are going to need refinishing!!
  2. You'll need the blue beret and UN cap badge too!!
  3. Lets see how the memory works after 30 years: A rifle is a firearm designed to fired from a shouldered position which can discharge a bullet through a rifled barrel longer than 16 inches. The spiral parallel grooves (rifling) in the bore impart spin to the round, providing stability and extended range. Rifles can be either bolt action (SMLE Mk IV), semi-automatic (L1A1 SLR) or automatic (FN) whereas a carbine is a shortened form of the rifle that has a barrel less than 16 inches in length, and is used, typically, by those who require a weapon for self-defense and emergencies. Carbines usually tend to be semi-auto and are inferior to the rifles in most ways.
  4. Excellent!!! Many thanks Richard
  5. If you're interested - theres this come up on MilWeb today:
  6. Did a quick search but couldn;t find any matches so here goes: Any one happen to know the paint code/colour for the blue used on the RR B series engines, the B81 in particular?? And even better - can anyone recommend a supplier of said paint????
  7. Incidentally - something I forgot to ask earlier - any one know a firm/individual who runs things like earth moving kit down to East Sussex way and who might be interested in picking up a 9.5 ton back-load if returning empty????
  8. Home improvement - that'd be a good one If I park the Stalwart at home I'll need another loan to rebuild the drive after it had sunk under the weight!!!!! Vintage truck sounds good though!!!
  9. Cheers Lee - will bear that little gem in close mind!!!!! How about just saying "Historic Vehicle" - think that will go down OK???
  10. I asked a friend who's a traffic police offcer this very question on driving a post 1960 Historic Military Vehice on a normal license and this is his replay - might be of interest to you - particalrly section q (ii):
  11. Why's that??? I'm after a 10 year repayment period to get the repayment figures down to a manageable level and I have a sneaky feeling there is a limit of about 5 years if it's for a car??????? Any one out there in the bean-counting business who could confirm or deny this??? Thanks Stuart - I reckon it will be at least mid-May before she's in my possession. A handy interval because the current owner said he is going to do the clutch slave cylinder in that time Gear changes were interesting to say the least on Sat. Once in and running though - she ran and sounded as sweet as anything !!!!!!
  12. Hope so too John!!!! You know what bean counter are like though!!! Speaking on bunker related topics- any news on the storage front at all????
  13. Well - for better or worse - looks like we have a deal - subject to a finance company saying yes!!! Picked up the windscreen enroute - and scored a new side window (dropping one) in with the price and there's an inner rear drop gate in good condition, some calipers and other odds 'n ends still to come. All for £10... Must be THE best eBay deal I've done!! Met the Stalwart owner at Bentley and had a good look over her - much impressed withthe amount of work done thus far - even the infamous Fire wire alert system was working. Nearly all the manuals (inc. the B81 RR one and the official parts list) and EMERS come with her as well as a stack of spares. Thus far the best interest rate is with Northern Rock so lets hope they say yes!!! Fingers - and everything else - crossed!!!!
  14. Funnily enough - my first ever copy of the MVT magazine popped through the door today - in it was a registration for the W&P show and this said, AFAICR, that all vehicles must have 3rd part off-road cover whilst there. Ths must mean such cover is available - I guess from some one like Road Sure - if so needed????
  15. Ah - now there's the problem Jack!! If I can reach a deal then I've got to go and try to borrow the £££'s so it would be a while before taking possession. Be a lot easier if I could "flash the cash" but..... Roll on early retirement so I can get rid of the loan.......
  16. The Albion looks lovely - if I wasn't hooked on Stalwarts I'd be SORELY tempted!!!!!!
  17. Thanks every one - fingers crossed!!!!
  18. Doing what Clive recommended!!!!! Beginning to think I'd do better doing what you were obviously thinking - advertising services for older women to raise funds for my worthwhile charity fund "Neils Stalwart"
  19. Frequently Clive - but thus far all requests for the crinkly folding stuff have gone unheeded!!! Off to look at one that HAS got the cover fitted - AND the full swim-board installation - tomorrow. Asking price is £6,000 or thereabouts though.... Been on my knees pretty non-stop since that one came up but.....!!!!
  20. Any one recommend a god supplier of canvas/tarp covers?? I'm interested in getting a cost for one for the load bed of a Stalwart - just in case the one I get has it missing.
  21. Thee are two Stawarts up on eBay right now - I've just come across the second one - and bombarded the seller with a long list of questions. if the answers are right then it's a reasonable price!!
  22. Frank - can you provide details & costs on the conversion kit for the 24v distributor on a Stalwart please???
  23. Odd - the REME guys attached to my old units always referred to them as "Cuppola (sp?) Covers"?????
  24. Thing that puts me off the http://www.121mv.com/ site is that everything is marked POA. I'd rather things either had a defined price or a price from sort of figure if the seller doesn;t want to commit to a definite price for a ehicle. At least then you've got a guide as to how much it will be - I hate having to phone up for things only to find the asking price is out of my budget 'cos it makes me feel a right twat and time-waster!!!
