  1. Basic idea is excellent and well worth pursueing! Only thing I can think of, off-hand, relates to your comment regarding "Of couse there will be owners saying the site may be miles from home" - using my home locale as an example (sorry!!) then siting such a museum in a place where I could realistically get to it to perform the maintenance required on the vehicle of my dreams and home again the same day would not be suitable for anyone north of Birmingham - and thats pushing the envelope. Ideally you'd be looking at at least two or more locales - say North, South East, South west for starters.
  2. Wasn't so at work today  Got shafted by the Germans - again!!! So much for all our work going by 2010 - looks like most of mine will be gone in a few weeks. Oh the joys of working for a "Global" company who's leaders still think Germany is the last bastion of the West against Communism.....
  3. Oh - I don't know...... Sounds interesting to me 8) Always did have a thing for older things - be it vehicles or women!!! (wife mk1 is 7 years ahead of me.....)
  4. Ah - but can a Zil do the Stalwarts swimming trick???
  5. Certainly makes more noise!!!! Chap I visited a few weeks ago for the guided tour of a crane equipped Stalwart had a couple as well. He was running them on mixed fuel -I think must have been more Derv that petrol - going by the coughs and bangs...
  6. Funny - that was my reaction!!!
  7. Sounds like a Welsh version of Tony B Liar!! :?
  8. Mags arrived safe and sound today - thanks Matt. If any thing I do can ever be of service to you feel free to ask!!
  9. This topic comes from another forum but I feel its equally relevant here as if it were not for the people now in need of support we would not be free and enjoying the hobby we do: Effectively this is an on-line petition to get, amongst other things, those who care for the eldery to be regiatered. Doesn't cost anything but a minute or so of your time amd I believe we all owe those affected a lot more than that!!
  10. Thats the general idea No intention of investing yet!! I just have this aversion to walking into things blindly - mainly to avoid VERY severe grief of the ear-hole by SWMBO when things don't go as stated.!!! I've been hammering the owners group over on Yahoo hard with operating and maintenance questions for the last few months to the point where I feel comfortable about what I'm getting into with a Stalwart. And who knows - when I do get one the kit maybe fitted already - but from my point of view better safe than sorry
  11. Thanks Chris! Are these what you mean: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Clansman-Military-Radio-Remote-Combining-Box_W0QQitemZ5876185594QQcategoryZ4674QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem for the Interconnecting Box 3 radio (or 2 radio) (or this appeared tonight!!! - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CLANSMAN-Radio-harness-INTERCOM_W0QQitemZ6612545691QQcategoryZ587QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    Dilemma....

It was a major story in the Classic Car mags a few years ago. The preople who wanted to presrve it in memory of Winston were "outbid" by a group of banger racers. Sale was agreed then the banger racers offered the seller more money - sellers reneged on the deal and sold it to the banger racers and it was smashed to pieces. Perhaps the worst bit was that the ones who did this took delight in taunting the classic car owning community by daubing slogans all over it like "We'll have yours next" - referring to a spate of thefts of classic cars that were found (what was left of them) on banger tracks. Thankfully the racing community has grown up and such incidents now seem to be much, much rarer.

    Dilemma....

I'm afraid I'd class that sort of owner as being in the same league as the morons who bought the hearse that carried Winston Churchills body - and smashed it to peices banger-racing it.
  14. I may be stupid but... I'm also exhibiting total ignorance here... Intercom systems - the "Ferret Commander" topic in the "Wanted" section got me thinking. Assuming one accquires a military vehicle that generates much cab noise (think Stalwart here) and may also at times require the co-driver to be some distance from the driver (e.g. standing in the load bed for reversing) & that does not already have the ClansMan intercom system fitted - what components inc cable types would be required to install the system allowing the use of 3 headsets/mic's in the cab plus one headset/mic at least to be plugged into a location at the rear of the vehicle. Might also be a requirement for external loudspeaker to request other's to avoid the vehicle?? I'm assuming there is a way of supplying power to the system from the vehicle as I've seens a couple of Stalwarts so equipped. TIA
  15. OK - just cast my vote. Interesting results thus far: "Ten years on from the Dunblane tragedy, should all firearms be banned?" YES - 6% NO - 94% Link (I Hope) to results page: http://www2.newsquest.co.uk/vote-html/zshnewspoll-results.html
  16. Seem to have vague memories (early seventies) of them being worn on shoulder epaulets???
  17. Seems to be the thing in Oz- Some one has a museum, gts old then sells it all off rather than preserving the collection for posterity. I was bidding on a DUKW last year under similar circumstances - alas it got to the point where, with shipping back to the UK it was unviable so had to drop out. Think the closing price was around Aus $ 70,000
  18. Ooohhh - YES please!!!!! Looking at a couple now - Nick from Tanks-a-Lot has 16 up for disposal and there's a Mk 2 up in Rochdale that I've been talking tothe owner about.
  19. No Vehicle, No Problem, come along to our show in May & drive some of our armour around the arena.. OK - just checked with SWMBO - we're free that weekend so you've got a deal!!!
  20. I like it - will give it a try when I get my own vehicle!!!!
