  1. I rememember a German chap walning up up to the OT in maybe 2009 and punching the side where the driver sits. Took a while before he could talk coherently again :-)
  2. Sounds like a job for a Green Goddess - or two!!!
  3. We started using this at Ford in the R&D centres over 7 years ago - part of the Virtual Manufacturing process the team I was on introduced. Technology was a bit (a lot??) cruder back then but good enough to produce full scale tools and parts/panels for use in ergonomic simulations.
  4. First time I ever heard a Pig described as "a delight to drive"
  5. 13 tons parked on your doorstep and you don't remember?? Oh dear :-)
  6. I don't even want to think it cost me in fuel and low-loader costs as well as living costs. It is worth it while I can afford it as its the only place I get to meet a lot of friends from overseas.
  7. Would it be worth starting those 4 engines just for 20 mins? Time the Lanc has taxied out and gone down the runway it would almost be a case of up, circuit, land???
  8. FWIW - I try to get whatever vehicle(s) I have at a show in the arena. Only the OT was there at W&PR this year and I know I missed at least one morning slot because we were busy talking to members of the public but we made all the afternoon and themed slots where applicable. Any show the OT gets to - currently just W&PR and Damyns Hall is the only chance it gets for a work out so we try to be as thorough as possible. Hopefully it means the audience get there monies worth as well. Certainly two OT's spinning at speed on the spot seem to be an attraction! :-D If the Landie is there I try to get that in too - even though there are so many there. Couldn't take it in at Damyns this year as I got a slow puncture in both rear wheels as soon as I arrived on the Friday. I will next year though if all goes well. Also next year the UAZ will hopefully be completed and running so some of the RA guys will be giving that a run if the OT is in as well. Don't get worried by microphones any more as the arena crews are all familiar with the beast (although it appears one got his notes mixed up with a 432's this year telling the crowds they were slow, high maintenance machines...)
  9. Apparently one of the guys in 2nd Battle Group saw the OT's whizzing around, realized what they were capable of and, being a BAOR veteran, shook his head and said "we wouldn't have stood a chance". An interesting comment!!
  10. Apparently the Canadian Lanc will be joining the BBMF fly past at Military Odyssey.
  11. Same here - despite a puncture in each rear wheel - it was a great time just chilling out interspersed with blasts around the arena.
  12. As regards being there early - for some people it is their holiday... For myself I enjoy the days of quiet before the show opens to the public. It give a chance to relax and socialise during the day, fine tune the display down in living history and go through the battle plans for the arena. Because the Red Alliance is spread all over Europe - and beyond - those few days are the only chance we get to dry run the battles as a group. Only so much can be planned on paper as the arena is by its nature a dynamic thing.
  13. Filter is on the opposite side to the norm - for a leftie to use his SLR suited up.
  14. Had you seen the loading of ours to come down it would have been less than enjoyable!! When booking the return trip from Folkestone to Damyns hall we had to specifically request another driver, it was that bad. :-(
  15. Glad to hear he got back OK - not a fun part of the world to be these days.
  16. Did mine with Specialist Training up at Beccles in Norfolk - was last man in - and got a double length test!!! All came together on the day, got a totally clear round on the first and forgot to switch back to forwards gear after the reverse manouevre on the second. That was in a Sultan.
  17. They expect to see much more in the way of observations before carrying out a manouevre.
  18. There was an issue with arena traffic and the 1-way system first day but that was alleviated when we got clearance for the lighter vehicles to use the bridge and gate by the armourers container.
