  1. Its a shame how a collection was most probably destroyed.

I never knew about the Heinkel! but that does not suprise me! I still know Dawn his sister I wonder if she has the prop still? she is very good friends with my mother.

Richard, the vehicles accross the road? where abouts? I dont recall them?

  2. When I was a wee nipper. My Mother and Step father of the time used to drink in the New Inn in Hadlow Down, Gerald who owned the place (now passed on) used to have loads and loads of trucks and ex military vehicles behind the pub just rotting into the floor! I used to play in and around them.... long gone now..

    wonder where too?

  3. ok, I thought this was a good idea... canvas to hardtop..

Well itseams the hardtop leaks more than the soft!

the metal ribs on the roof (x3) seem to have lifted and form a nice channel for water to run to the front and into the cab over the roof join.

I have tried sealant. does not work.. now have duck tape on the roof! but does anyone or has anyone had the same problem and solved?

  4. just sorted new batteries for the landrover.. not cheap but peace of mind, as when i tried to start today was very slow and then would not! so replace.. with the battery killswitch..

where is the best place on a 109 ffr with cab mounted batteries? as by the looks i would have to rewire it? as its the "key" type..

also would it be more logical in the + or - wire?

  6. my Zenith carb seems to be giving trouble?

only had this today-but was dark so did not have time to look.. thought I would brainstorm on here as usual:)

When you rev the engine the revs stick for a few seconds? I cant see a fray on the cable from the accelerator. Do you think the float in the carb could be stuck? or a jet?

before I tackle any situation I aways like to have public opinon as you all know:)

Its a new carb (1 year old) linkage seems to be tangle free and move free, only when it runs deos it seem to stick?

  7. Ok. I have two verisons I have been told, who can clear this up??

    24V system. I want to run a 12V radio.

    Do I?....

tap off one battery 12V. And assume it will charge at the same rate as the other one?

Or by an invertor to change the voltage to 12V

Some people say tapping off one is fine, others are very sure one battery will discharge and be ruined over time??

I know you can get 24V radios but I have a nice one already..

  8. Ok, tomorrow ill try shifting the tyres around.

They are the mil spec goodyears off the top of my head, all in good cond.

    Steering relay has been replaced.

steering linkages seem ok, so did the bearings on wheel wiggle, ill jack it up and find out this time.. many thanks for the help..

With the swivvels can you adjust or is it just replace the whole unit?

  9. when driving, sometimes.. not all... you hit a bump and get a violent shake which can only be cured by bringing the vehicle to a hault.

This had kind of gone away but now its back with vengance.

Today I replaced the steering Relay with hope that it was that, but no.

So next stop is the steering swivels. a few questions if you can answer?

1.How do I check that they have play?

2.How do I fix if they are worn? Is it just new seals and adjust? or new housings?

I'm sure I can do the mechanicals I just like to ask people who would have done the job to make things easier.

It passed the MOT with no issues and I can see and feel no play in the steering joints? tyres are fine and cant see anything other than the swivels and steering box left(has oil in)

    mant thanks as usual :)

  10. I reconise that picture Cliv! I do belive I own said 30BK43 in the pictures, If anyone would like to measure or see in the flesh/metal PM me and if your in the Lewes East sussex area pop over.

I should really do something for the Op Banner, As I have a flying Mk1 with sandbags on the wings and now barb wire so it does look the part.

  11. OK.

I shall be attempting this conversion soon, prob a TDI 200.

    a few questions still.

    1. gearbox... Will my top speed be greater with the the TDI? or restricted by the box? (not that I intend to speed, more for cruising at more than 45mph! 60mph would be nice!)

2.shocks.... So its worth uprating my shockers front and rear, but assume the leafs would be ok?

3.24V... I would like to keep the 24V system, could I do this with the TDI? and keep my 90amp alternator

4.brakes.... I assume the drums would stand the little extra weight as they perform very well now?

I think that covers my concerns. As usual many thanks to you all for your help and advice.

I have fitted a hardtop today and sealed it tight, so now is all well :)

  12. ok, I have no keys! so the old lock barrel seems to be stuck fast?

I have removed the handle/lock and it seems there is a small hole at the barrel end on the side of the base cylinder. But without the key turning the barrel I assume there is no way to remove?

Do I have to drill it all out?

as the handle unit is cast and pressed??

    advice?
