  1. Well busy day! Thanks to my fried Dice and Alex for their help!

The engine is in.. All new oils in everything from boxes to axles...(not cheap now days!)

I had the joy today of turning the key and it jumping to life!!!! It runs!

So now just the Exhaust system and the kenlowe fan to fit as well as refitting the whole floor and cab.. and its go go go!

I have not driven to find out if the new box has solved the problem.. but when placed in gear it does not move! so It is engaging drive :)

  2. And It had bedford MK's on the streets! as well as HVVPK landrovers which again did not exista at the time! dont get me started on the kit that the Paras are wearing! shower of *%IT as would say in the forces! And worn/wrong stuff... That and the plot are a let down in that film. "sunday" by BBC2 was better but I cant find that now?

  3. When I was strippin the roof lining out of my Landrover.. I pulled the section around the sun roof down and jumped for a second. An Evil looking spider confronted me! I froze then bashed it with the trim clip removal tool. Not very friendly I know! but the Spider was hardly saying welcome to the roof lining gap...

All I noticed was it was a fair size, not huge but enough to make you jump at eye level! I let go of the roof lining! when I returned I could not find it! I just remember it being very black with a stylish motif on its arse.. in ...errr........Red.

Now this did not trigger anything in my mind until talking to me G-friend and she mentioned "black widows" as All spider conversations go! but when I googled an Image it looked pretty much like the little bugger I saw! Now I ruled this out with the usual logic... untill

Ok there is no link... but My new landrover came from the very same Merthyr Tydfil weeks before!!!

I did burn the egg sacks with WD and a lighter.. not very NSPCA but can you blame me!

So... What was it I saw? it looked like a black widow

  4. I took a perfectly working one out of the 110, and now I cant get it to unravel.

Its locked and the more I fiddle the more it feeds back onto the reel and gets tighter... what is the solution...

I bought a spare off ebay as its the same, locked solid!

    Advice please:)

Looking more tidy by the day!

    DSC00924.jpg

after banging the rear crossmember and poking it about there is a small hole.. not sure what to do with this as I dont want to replace the whole thing and I dont want little patches all over.. wonder what the MOD would do? Its strong all over except there

    DSC00927.jpg

Tdi 200 after filter changes. Cam belt . New clutch and flywheel and gaskets where I can get to

    DSC00928.jpg

Now just waiting on the engine mounts to be re-welded and replace the engine.. along with new hoses.. turbo hoses and the new Electric Kenlowe Fan..

Also fitted a new fuel tank today as It was weeping from somewhere which had advanced to a drip so I thought just scrap it and get a new one! Britpart.. my first experience.. not the greatest fit.. but not as bad as they are rated

  6. DSC00889.jpg

Engine and box removed! So I can get on with the chassis and engine bay painting

    DSC00891.jpg

    Engine bay painted..

    DSC00894.jpg

Steering protectors and axle guards are a bonus! for the price paid

    DSC00892.jpg

next job, cut these off and do the job the right way!

    DSC00893.jpg

Cant believe some people would leave mounts like this!

    DSC00900.jpg

Engine in waiting for steamclean and overhaul

    DSC00886.jpg

As it was a V8 adnd converted to a Tdi200 new seat base and tunnel was needed, so a quick lick of paint to keep it inkeeping

    DSC00896.jpg

1hour and several tonnes of mud later I have a clean chassis! only one very minor scab on an outrigger.. the rest is very good

  7. Well.I thought I would start a blog on my restoration/put right of my Defender.

As Im sure you all know I only paid a cracking £796 for 1990 Defender with a TDI200 engine!

good tyres,MOT and TAX for 6months , so all in all a good price

Engine is a runner but the box does not engage

So, now the review after engine removal and gearbox out.

The clutch is the worst example I have seen! absolutly ruined!

The gearbox is also not good, the main shaft has loads of play and when you turn it the prop mounts in the transfer box dont move at all.. but if you hold the prop mount you can feel all sorts of bad coming through your hand..

SO new clutch and box on way I hope..

And refit after a bay repaint and overhaul of many bits.. Ill post pictures soon as I go and what I have been doing..

  8. Ok, dont know if you all remember the landrover I bought.. but I have just got her back on the drive after a few weeks of trying to sort a trailer to get the thing here! as it was in the yard of a friend! And Im very proud of my old Series 3 FFR petrol towing the defender back!

    Ok, here it is...

Bought with a broken gear box..

It is an EX v8 landi . Converted by an idiot to be a 200tdi. Made a right hash of the engine mounts and wiring but thats the easy bit!

    Gearbox..

You can feel all the gears are there but letting the clutch up. no Drive!

this is the same in all configs with the transfer box.

Towing the vehicle I removed the props. as if something in the box was loose or damaged could have made it worse..

I noticed with the props off.. and floor up. when you run the engine and engage a gear the front prop mount on the transfer box spins! then. if you engage difflock the rear prop also works.. but twhen the props are re-attached they do not have enough power to move the axles?

Also the clutch does make a fair bit of noise..

what would you think? broken output on the transfer box??

    Ideas...

    thanks

  9. At least with the Pack removed you can change all filters and "run it up" before refitting.

Do you have a Fv432 Engine lifting frame? We have 8 Fv432's in the yard if you need any cross referencing

  10. DSC00630.jpg

Gearbox in place.. I think this is a LT77 box number is "56A0185498H"

    DSC00688.jpg

when the metal surround is placed on it looks like it should be there and its in correct place?

    DSC00693.jpg

Box mounts through the chassis on large bolts and a bracket.. Same as Defender Diesel?

    DSC00674.jpg

So Im sure its the right box mounted the right place.. Can some one check a 110 Diesel for me?? If they own on and compare

    DSC00662.jpg

The champion welding of engine mounts!

    DSC00672.jpg

Engine mounts have some of the finest welding I have seen!!!

    DSC00675.jpg

    DSC00680.jpg

Is this steering joint correct? looks bent! so does the other section.. ??

    DSC00682.jpg

Not 100% sure of this... glow plug circuit board?

    DSC00685.jpg

Over view.. does it look correct?

  11. Cheers, well PM sent ref TonyB, Hopefully someone close has the correct box.. I cant get into the yard till tuesday as ita bankholiday.. But I shall check the gearbox mounts. From memory they are original. So providing the V8 box shares mounts with the Diesel one I have a milestone to work from..

  12. Ok so I need to work out a few things.

    1. What gearbox I have, Although Its up and left for reverse says its an LT77 to me, It might not be.. So I need to know how to identify with the Code stamped on the case? ideas? Also to identify its a defender model

    2. Also Need to know that the gearbox mounts for the V8 gearbox would be the same place on the chassis to the lt77 Diesel gearbox. As if they origianl and the same place I can use this to gauge if the engine is in the correct place.

    3. Also find out where the engine mounts should be exact on a diesel chassis for a tdi 200

    4. Are the propshafts the same lenght in a V8 to the Diesel?

Can anyone help there? as it then gives me a good scope to start the removal and sort out process..

As im concerned why the box is broken.. (suspected main shaft snap) If its because its not in the right place etc

  13. Ok..

Just had the 110 dropped off.. many thanks to DaveP

First impressions are that I got my £800 worth in this deal!

Tyres are all in good condition. Better than my 109

Chassis and the bulkhead are very good condition also.

All shocks look good and solid

It has a skid/shield on the steering and front axle! handy

Exterior has a few knocks but thats normal, overall good

    Bad bits...

Well the gearbox does not engage at all. Shaft broken I think.

Engine.. well well well its a proper Stevie Wonder school of Engineering conversion.

Bits of twisted together wire, black and nasty tape and zip ties!

The problem I shall have to tackle first is Engine mounts. This was a V8 and has been converted to a TDi200. So the engine mounts have been welded on, I suspect to far back so the gearbox has taken strain and broken.

Does anyone have a Diagram or can hint at the correct location of the 110 tdi engine mounts so I can check..

Then Engine runs very well, just needs lots of tidying as the previous owner has made a right hash of it! pics to follow

  15. I think its the LT77 box.. Im not sure if thats the same in the Disco LT77 as the Defender LT77?

But worse case the engine and the box are shot.. still a G reg rot free chassis and bulkhead ! so worth that alone I wouldsay!
