  1. Interesting 'Over Engineered' front Girder forks. Perhaps when it's done, you could locate a Restored Ex-Serviceman to go in it!!!!..........
  2. If it is a Blank Firer, this now falls under the VCR Act. You neeed to be an Accredited member of a Historical Re-Enactment or living History group to be able to buy/ sell this class of Replica. :nono: It is NOT illegal to own or possess one. :yay: Blank Firing Replicas can be converted from Inert Replicas, or scratch built (If building, must comply with the above RE:VCR Act) be they blank or gas firing. IT IS ILLEGAL TO CONVERT A DEACT TO FIRE, PERIOD! :stop: If you need any more help, PM me. :coffee:
  3. The LEGAL way is to get an Approved Sec 5 RFD to import it for you on your behalf. I have a collegue who does this in a big way all the time. If you get it to a Sec 5 RFD ASAP. He will take it in & do the Nessacary work & submit the item & get a certificate for it. It is then done. ALL in, work plus cert shopuldnt cost you more than £50 quid. :yay: As for prosecution, If you say nothing & hand it to said RFD, you should be OK. He's is not interested in getting you 'done'. He just wants your money & has the Licence to get you out of a position that is bad for you to say the least!. It's only when you go to the Authorities & say what you have done. Then they will jump on you big time! Im my expirience, half the time they dont even know thier own rules (Just like VOSA!) DONT go to the proof house yourself, they have an obligation to seize the item & report you. Go to an aproved Sec.5 RFD. :yay:
  4. BOTTOM LINE: It is NOT UK De-Act, Proofed with cert. = It is in the eyes of the Law, 'still live'. It does NOT matter if this weapon was Pre 95 Proofed abroad. It WILL have to be reworked to current spec. IE: Welded up! If found with it in it's present state, no matter what excuse, the penalty is Five years enforced holiday = NO excuse! :stop: Your best bet is to hand to a section 5 RFD who will do all that is nessacary for you with no problem. It is also an offence to import a 'Firearm' into the uk without a vaild licence. In this case a Home Office issued Section 5 Authority. If you need help, PM me & this can be sorted Legally & quickly. Mike. (A REAL Professional Armourer) :yay:

  8. When the L85A1 (SA80) was introduced. It had 15 round mags. The LSW (L86A1) had 30. It was found that because of the prolifferation of different types of magazine (Colt M16, French Famas Etc) that 'crept' into usage. (Again, troops attempting to 'customise' equipment, even in the Weapon field!) :stop: there was a possibility of a Weapon malfunction/ Ammunition incident with non standard issue equipment. To standardise things, radway green were contracted to manufacture the Allimiinium 30 round mags that became standard for both types of Weapon. These were found to be not strong enough in Service use, & subsequently. Changed to the steel pattern encountered today. Now weapon is L85A2. With Health & Safety rearing it's head. There is now a Blank Ammo Only Mag, used in conjuction with a New Pattern BFA (Blank Firing Attachment) This mag prevents the loading (& subsequent usage) of live ammo 'accidently' being used on Exercises. Distinguished by a Yellow stripe on each side. (I personally find this incredible, that after training a man with small arms. He cannot distinguish between live & blank ammo! If this is the case, then he/ she should not even have a weapon!!) :nono: So basically, in answer to your original question: Was the Mag replaced, then yes it was. Fully explained above. :coffee: Mike.

  14. Yes it was. It has been a German Military Training area since Prussian Times. British Army Soldiers have/ are trained there after the war. And still do. A lot has been demolished & new Houses have been built on former Barrack Buildings. It is mainly a tarining area of live firing ranges for small arms, Mortars & light Artillery. The main gunnery ranges are located at Honne near Belsen. And Puttloss where they fire out to sea. I have spent many days in MY Service career shooting & repairing Weapons there! I had some interesting finds there also. I speak German & always put myself out to be Friendly to the Civilian German Range staff. I got given a Luftwaffe china plate, An Armband, Assorted Nazi Ordanance (Inert!) & actually saw a Horch Car mounted in a Concerete Bunker with one tyre removed froma wheel. A cable was wrapped around this wheel & it was used to tow Tank Targets via a steel cable back & forth across the Anti-Tank Range! I tried to do a deal with the Range Warden to replace said Horch with a Landrover. But, he didnt want to risk his job!! Shame, It's a rare vehicle & I often wonder if it's still there. I found an Original Baketlite telephone with German Waffen Ampt stamp in one of the range boxes on a firing point. I couldnt belive it! Needless to say, it 'dissapeared' :cool2: There are lots of interesting Wartime Bunkers scattered around the area for observation Etc. A huge one Reputed to have had Hitler watching a Manouver from. All the levers for the hatches & doors still intact, though VERY rusty! Interesting times. Mike. :yay:
  15. Wow! That Takes me back! My Father was Regimental Armourer Sergeant with 7th Signal Regiment in Hereford in the late sixties. I was only about 8-9 then. But I have happy Memories of the place. One of the best Postings we ever accompanied him on! I remember also on Sundays, after lunch. We would walk up to the top of that hill & go up the Hindenburg Memmorial frequently. Lovely view on a clear day! I recently checked a site for Military Barracks in gemany. It was a sad time! 7 Sig's Barracks, & a Lot of similar ones all over Germany where I had served myself. ALL, handed BACK to the German Civil Authorities. Another slice of History lost! All in the Name of Progress?? Thanks for sharing your Pics. Mike :yay:
