  1. Hello Buddy! I emailed Andy Carter on the 15th August. I have not yet heard back from Him?........ Regards: Mike.
  2. I recall in service. BV's were standard issue in 432's Etc. you just plugged in the cable after filling the BV with water. & the engine did the rest! I also recall, on STALWARTS, there was a dedicated box that was fitted in the vehicle. With a Socket to accept the BV lead. You had a SWITCH, & a light on this box. That told you when the BV was switched on. I am ASSUMING this box had the nessacary regulator in it. To control the Thermostat in the BV. As well as the current going to the main elements? So I would suggest you look / enquire. for one of these control boxes, from parts suppliers. Under Stalwart spares perhaps?
  3. Hello Everyone! I have a nice '45 Willys Jeep. Restored to Hotchkiss M201 Mil Spec. I purchased this approx 2 years ago. I parked it on my drive & sheeted it over. when Covid killed all the show's Etc. The batteries on a trickle charger, which has kept them topped up nicely. Last week I started her up with no difficulty. Lift pump fuel to carb, slight choke & fired her up excellently! Now come the problem! She is not charging! ALL gauges are working, EXCEPT. The ammeter. It is not showing charge, or surprisingly any discharge? Also, I dont know if it is related. But all lights work, EXCEPT the main headlights? I am told that a good check to do on a Hotcho is to start it. & when running turn off the battery isolator switch. As it is a Negative earth, & the switch comes in there before power is turned on. I am informed that IF the Gennie is working. The engine will CONTINUE to run. Thus displaying that the charging side of things are working? Yesterday, I had the regulator box off & opened it up. The inside is very clean & everything is in like new condition. I lightly wiped all the contacts with a fine emery board as I had access, to eliminate this component area. All solenoid contact bridges move manually easily as they should. I only have a blurry vague French wiring diagram. & from what I gather, i think there is a contact switch on the rear of the ammeter? I am wondering if there is, might this be the problem? but as I said, all other gauges & lights ( Except main headlights ) are working. I am stumped here on this? I am hoping one of you erstwhile chaps may have some sound advice on what to do / look for? I want to get this rectified, so I can enjoy driving it. Whilst we still have good weather!...HELP!!!.....

  7. Also take the opportunity to tighten EVERY nut, bolt & Hose coupling whilst you have the pack out! You will notice that some joins are lock wired. This will give you confirmation that these packs vibrate like hell when running in the vehicle! Running up outside the hull is the only way to detect fluid leaks on these packs as well. especially the heat exchanger! You could try taking the cables off the panel after labelling them, if you cant read the connection umbers. & find out which is the one for the starter. by pushing one cable at a time. Onto the distribution panel attachment stems. Until you find the one that operated the starter perhaps? Just a thought. Good luck!
  8. The gearbox MUST be in neutral & IIRC there was a transmission lever that should also be in neutral. I think this is at the bottom of the pack itself. It's been over thirty years since I worked on these! LOL Was the engine starting ok prior to removal? The one VERY important thing I DO remember is. you must NOT run the pack for more than 15 Mins Tops! As this has something to do with engine oil draining into the bottom side of the gearbox that is on the pack itself. And you really MUST wear ear defenders doing this. & Basically you are running with no silencer at all!
  9. I repaired MANY bicycles as an Armourer. We could also demand spares for them. It was common to obtain an old bike frame from a Civy rubbish dump. & bring it back to the Workshop. Make a list of what was needed & demand the spares for it. Thus Every Armorers shop in every unit I was attached to. Had it's own Shop Bike! 😉 Very useful for runs to the NAAFI & the unit canteen. & as a 'Camp Runabout'. As some camps had quite large areas to get round! 😁 At Sandhurst, they had Hundreds of Bikes! So Many it had a repair shop for Bicycles of it's own.
  10. Interesting that the Box is stencilled 'Boxes Veh Mechanic'. As Bicycles came under the Unit Armourers For Repairs & Maintaninance. Note the green small metal tins also. They are Bren / LMG spare parts tins. Used in the Spare Parts wallets for this range of guns.
  11. Probably to be replaced with AJAX. Similar vehicle, but with Larger Gun in it's turret. It does the same job as Warrior, but is a newly introduced AFV to UK Military Service.
