  1. Because as it's a coarse weave nylon material. Ink stamp markings would be impossible to apply.
  2. [ Cannot recall ever seeing a bayonet frog to go with 58 pattern webbing for use in the field. Doesn't mean there wasn't one. Alien, The 'Bayonet frog' used with 1958 pattern webbing....Wasnt! It went on the side of one of the Ammo pouches! The other side had a long pocket for the Energa grenade aluncher, or the first pattern bullet catching Blank Firing attachment. (We use to put or eating utencils in that! KFS)The ammo pouch had two web straps for the retention of the bayonet in it,s scabbard. I know.....The memories fade.......................:nut:
  3. So it's true then, If you DONT move a vehicle periodically, The tyres develop a flat at the bottom!....:nut:
  4. If your up that close & personal with a 'Smudger' & need to use a Bayonet, then your in DEEP Trouble!
  5. Yep, green nylon frong for the slr bayonet on parade use. went on a matching belt. also came in white, the same design. used during 1970'-1980's. Piece of rubbish! when marching, it used to move round the belt & end up on the centre rear of your belt & looked ridiculous! :embarrassed:
  6. Ouch! Thats a great deal more of an expensive loss, isint it? Sentimental value, you can rarely replace!...........:-(
  7. Nah, the nearest ripleys here. They only buy cars in for the scrap value & wont let you take anything off of thier 'Stock'! Car dismantelers these days are being closed down by regualtions that have come into force. IE: Possibility of prossecution over selling a part that MAY have failed in a subsequent accident Etc. Guess a new one will have to be on the cards. (When I can borrow the money!) :nut: It's the lack of a facility working under cover that concerns me mainly. :-(
  8. Hi Gavin, I used to be green also. But I like to feel im a LITTLE bit more expierienced now!..... Wellcome, Mike.
  9. Tale of woe in the snow Well, it's sunday & MOST of the snow has melted in Ashford. Roads OK. Saw the forecast & it informs that it's going to get a LOT colder! Looks like more snow then!........:nut: Had a 'Lovely' day on Friday. Had to go on a 150 Mile roundtrip to worthing to collect some expensive items. On the return journey, all was well until I was exiting Battle High street. The road terminates in a 'Y' Junction with one of those stupid little painted roundabouts on it. I was doing approx 20 Mph & obviously driving cautiously. Old git in front approx 30 ft away indicates left & turns RIGHT. Then stops for no apparant reason! Obviously I brake gently, little old VW Polo of mine decides to skid in a straight line! NO amount of frantic wheel turning will make her deviate! CRASH! into left kerbside! Result: LHF wheel pushed back 3" or so. JUST touching plastic inner wheel arch liner. Old git drives off as if nothing has happend! I dont have AA or RAC Recovery either, so I have no choice but to limp the 1 hour journey left home. Noisy, but I got home OK. I guess the wet/snow on the roads help keep the tyre cool enough to make it back home. Pretty upset as you can imagine! I think it will need a replacment lower wishbone which will be about £85 quid. I need to fit it myself as I cannot afford garage labour costs. Also, as the car is a '93 it's only third party cover. No money left now for the spare part after the Friday acqusitions! I havent even started to do Christmas shopping! No room on my drive due to Mil vehicles (Truck & Armoured car) car has to sit in road. No garage to do the work in. Bl"%*y Freezing outside! NEED to have transport due to being a Carer for my Wife. Im pretty much in the deep Do, Do I feel!........:nut: I keep telling myself that there are indeed others who are a lot worse off then me. This is true of course, & I can console myself that at least I still have three wheel stations that are not damaged!..... Anybody wanna buy a MK2/4 Turreted Ferret with Browning mount?..........:-( Happy Days!............? Depressed Mike.
  10. Hiya, wellcome to the forum of all knowledge! There are MANY owners here that are very expirienced & generous with advice & assistance if you need any. I also live in Ashford. I own a 'Few' Military vehicles myself & worked on HUNDEREDS of landrovers in Service before remustering at another trade. If you need to chat about anything, PM me & I will give you my number. Good luck, & wellcome aboard! Mike.
  11. not all British Army kit is rubbish!! No, just the bean counters who 'Run' it!....................:argh:
  12. [ At W&P there is a bloke who wanders around dressed as a Rock Ape. It must have been very hot for him in that Monkey costume!................:cool2:
  13. Nick, Nice pics! I noticed the windscreen & side window covers on the Landy. Are they a standard issue set? Or did you make them up yourself in camp? The reason I ask is, I have just acquired a 110 Defender FFR & want to use it in the Radio Op mode. The screens would be a very usefull privacy additon as well! Dont know too much about TUM's/ TUL's as at my Rank level it was, OI, You! Bring that Rover here, put that in, Hand me that radio Mike Etc.....lol! Never had to do much with these vehilces in Service as I was too busy 'In a supervisory Capacity'!.............. Cheers, Mike
  14. Shame on the Government! They should inisitiate a U.O.R on this 'Difficulty'!.......... (U.O.R = Urgent, Operational, Requierment.) :nut:
  15. Nice example. If you remove the left grip scale after unscrewing the retaining screw. There SHOULD be a threaded hole for the attachment of a lanyard ring. Standard for a Brit issue Browning of all marks.
  16. Worked fine. Seems like an awfull lot of labour & pre preperation before firing was needed!
  17. Oh.... That REALLY sucks!........:-D
  18. No connection at all. The ORIGNAL owner of Battle orders has closed the firm & moved to the Phillipines following years of Pointless & continious 'Hassle' from Sussex Police Etc. (They dont like anything connected with guns!) The impact on the Bussiness & the Pathetic VCR Act had a very bad impact on the firms trading. The Title of the firm 'Battle Orders' is still trading, albiet at another location on an Industrial estate now. BUT, It is an installed manager minding it & the main range of products are the DENIX Range from Spain. Not a patch on the quality of the original Replica Models! Drop zone market DEACTS, Land Rovers & the Odd Mil Vehicle. And also a large range of Militaria.
  19. Move her on a Weekend then, the congestion charge is dropped over that period. :cool2:
  20. Correct! As an Ex Service R.E.M.E Armourer myself. I was always getting asked to do little 'Mods' by some of the users. NOT official or 'Legal' (IN Army terms!) such as making a selective fire saftey catch for SLR Rilfes. (There was bit more work needed to the Rifle itself, apart from modifing the Safety catch (Change lever is the CORRECT Term) Making Bipod assemblies from GPMG's for Slr's fitted with I.W.S Scopes Etc. One of the 'War-ey' things executed by a LOT of Squaddies was the usage of the 30 Round LMG mag in the SLR Rifle. This worked OK with Blanks, but was unreliable & frequently jammed with LIVE Ball Ammo. If you think about it, that is logical. They were asking an item that was designed to work a certain way, to work 108% the OPPOSITE way! IE: Working against Gravity & with weaker internal feed spring also. The LMG Mag spring was FLAT section spring steel. Live Ball ammo is considerably heavier than Blank, also. The L1A1 SLR Rifle mag was ROUND Section steel wire. The advantages of using SLR mages were, the whole section was carrying them in pouchs. If the LMG Gunner ran out of 30 round mags. the section could throw them some of thier rifle mags & they worked perfectly! Hope you find this 'Trivia' information usefull?........:nut:
  21. Rob, You did VERY well to source these! They are EXCEEEDINGLY scarce these days! I was aware of a SMALL number imported by A.F Budge a few years ago when they were still trading. But a lot were destroyed after the war for scrap. When you think about it, that makes sense, because in reality. What CAN you do with such a large trailer with a small load area & awkward access by rear doors! Hence unpopular in the past & scrapped! Well done Mate!
  22. Bill, the short answer is NO! This variant of Bren was LONG obsolete during the seventies. It may well have had an L4A4 LMG which was a CONVERSION of a MKIII Bren, CARRIED on the vehicle. To my knowledge, there was not a purpose made mount for the LMG on Lightweights. Yes for GPMG though. I have seen a type of mulit-mount that would take a LMG & Browning .30" Cal Mg. But this was intended to attach to the hoop rails that supported a canvas cover on the back of 3 Ton trucks. There are many annomolies though, just to confuse things! CERTAIN units did things that were not official & records do not exist of such things. BUT, a lot of guys 'did thier own thing' so to speak during this period of time in Service. You would NOT be able to get away with such things today!
  23. So...It would seem you are listening to her now Mike. You have put your Ferret up for sale! :nut:
  24. p.s. Pretty much every Hi-power on the market at the moment is a ex Israeli weapon.[/quote] There is a large influx of Ex Belgien Army/Police Hi-Powers out there on the circuit now,
  25. Mind you Jim, At this time of year when the Public are shopping at busy times. It certainly seems like a War zone in Sainsburys!.....:nut:
