  1. cleaned several blocks , early ones seem to be a green color for the cast main bit , and all covers are gloss black , some late war engines I cleaned look to be overall black , the color you mention is the color engines received after a rebuild , Lots of pictures from the Bedfords in Dunkirk after the retreat, which have the their bonnets off don`t show a light shade for rebuilt color
  2. It is a 981 , but no chassis number there , could it be a replacement chassis?
  3. I just checked mine , it is also about 3cm thick , maybe even 3,2 cm , difficult to measure without taking hatch out , but then i have to unload it. notised also that the bolts for mounting the cab frame to the body are much too long , but who carred the trucks had to go out from the factory quick in 1939.
  4. thanks Richard, it seems good idea to have a light color , to see any leaks . Never understood why Humber engines were painted black.
  5. hi , nice work , I am doing one up at the moment for a friend of mine , but I am wondering what the factory color for the engine would be , I can only find red oxide on the engine . Maurice
  6. Most USN jeep`s were olive drab , there is the od picture which look like they have a different color, probably grey with black underside , they will be olive drab under the bonnet , and seats and top are just standard olive drab too.
  7. In our shed a friend has a QLW tucked away in a corner , you are more than welcome to measure it up , body is in 2 halves , and not too difficult to copy , otherwise I know somebody who could fold the sheet metal for you.
  8. Can somebody tell me if the 981 has a chassis number stamped somewhere ? Or is it like the CMP`s only on the data plate. thanks in advance Maurice
  9. the makers plate says J.B. & co ltd.
  10. I am now wondering if i still can find its wartime X registration number.
  11. I will have a look tomorrow , registration plate and rebuilt plate are still on it , the tires are dated 1949, and WD
  12. this is the version which can be used single , but was operated in a group of 4 , this trailer has boiler , hot and cold water tank ,washing machine ,dryer, boiler , hydro extractor ,and tumbler. The washer has a full brass interior , all well made . I got a spark on the plugs , petrol reaches carburettor , but it will not roar into life , wiould there be anywere on the world still a manual be for these ?
  13. no it is just as it was released , and then put indoors.
  14. here a picture I took today , austin generator compartment is open.
  15. thanks , 1st picture is the same chassis , but different interior , 2nd is the same as the one I found , genny is on the right hand side , boiler on left . , trailer was still in the army at least till 1984 , because of stenciling on the back. JB & Co. was Brockhouse regards, Richard
  16. Hi all , I found a WW2 Laundry trailer , plate on Chassis tells me that it was made by J.B&Co Ltd, I can`t find any info on it , it is a 4 wheeled trailer on 10.50x16 tires , got an Austin engine with generator in it , a boiler washer ,hydro extractor, tumbler ,and dryer . the only picture I have is on page 186 from the book Canada`s fighting vehicles Europe 1943-45. Is there anybody with more pictures or info on these? pictures will follow.
  17. but the question is how do they steal a jeep , immobilizing is no worry to them , they jump out of their car and push the jeep they want onto a trailer . the only thing which stops them doing that is turning the wheels to a side , and have a padlock , motorbike lock around steering and springs . chain on steering wheel doesn`t stop them either , because with an adjustable they just undo the steering wheel nut.
  18. I haven`t got a british one on 20 " wheels , but a Canadian built one on 20" wheels , it is complete , just the 2 pumps are still missing .
  19. it was well organized, convoy kept moving at a reasonable speed, and big machines in the front of the convoy. this 40km trip was a joy to do .
  20. the dip switch is there for early vehicles , so they could switch off one headlight , is the same in MW wiring diagram .
  21. It is not a standard 15cwt rim , Bedford Morris etc all have 8 stud wheels , these are 6 . Canadian 8 CWT HU`s have 6 stud rims
  22. to what I know , is the breathing done by one of the bolts in the cover , I have a british deep water fording manual which talks about drilling a hole in axles and put a hose on them for breathing and so preventing salt water to enter the axle.
