  1. Thanks -It looks possible. Any second opinions ? Does it fit any other vehicle ?
  2. Seen on Ebay.co.uk 320715588203 What does this bracket fit ?
  3. Actually thats quite right, I lost a pretty rusty WW2 Dennis Tipper that way and only found out a long time after. I certainly wouldn't try to recover it this far down the line but it wasn't theirs to dispose of. I would be happier to learn that someone eventually restored it and wish them well if it still exists.
  4. Have a look at my similar post "WW2 RAF Ambulance Markings" there are some useful replies. You may possibly find something in the Wellington Museum in Moreton In Marsh because Enstone was a satellite of the Moreton in Marsh airfield. The curator has also co-written a book about Moreton, of which I have copy somewhere about although I don't recall any useful vehicle pictures, neither for that matter do I remember seeing any in the book "Oxfordshire Airfields in the Second World War 2." Another thing you could do,if you are local to Enstone ( I can virtually see it) is to go along to the local MVT meeting 4/5 miles away held at the Hook Norton Brewery on the last Thursday of the month. As well as the excellent beer .there are members knowledgeable about local matters and at least one with a WW2 RAF marked vehicle. Someone may be able to help.
  5. Thanks Ted - useful information which answers a large part of the question. Do you suppose that the middle K2 in the first picture with the larger, higher visibility red crosses was a different unit to the others or simply a later manufactured vehicle painted like that from new on the Longbridge production line?
  6. Thank you Ted and Richard. I think the K2 was pretty widely used on British airfields both for operational and training squadrons and my presumption is that they would carry the appropriate squadron and command lettering. I would imagine they were particularly used by Bomber Command for evacuation of multi-person crews. Where I am completely in the dark is where the vehicle was operated by a medical unit serving for example an RAF hospital. Is it even possible that these would be RASC vehicles.
  7. What markings would a WW2 Austin K2 Ambulance carry ? Other than the usual RAF letters, registration and a roundel front and rear, what unit markings would a K2 carry when operated in this this country by an RAF medical unit or hospital. I am presuming an airfield ambulance would carry the command and squadron marking eg.B/43 but was there a marking specific to a medical unit along the lines of the M for maintenance ?
  8. Other than the usual RAF markings/Roundel etc what unit markings would an Austin K2 Ambulance in RAF service carry ? Would they relate to the Command or Squadron or was there a specific "Medical" marking along the lines of a Maintenance Unit marking.

  10. No its not a Spartan one - thanks for the info though.I will try and get a picture. It looks and feels older to me.
  11. Just sorting out some stuff which has been in store and have found a steel open top box/bracket containing one of the large AFV first aid kit boxes. The item is padded inside, approx 11"x5"x3" with a 2" extension each side ,has two tags with mounting holes at the rear and is sprayed matt green over silver. I'm guessing it is for a post war British vehicle but can anyone please tell me if it is specific to one type of vehicle or a standard AFV fitting ?
  12. Should you want to you are very welcome to come and crawl about under my K2. Between Oxford and Stratford on Avon - about 70 miles from you.
  13. "What about a silage pit ?" or "There must be one round here."
  14. I used Woolworth's household paint on all but the exhaust manifold over 30 years ago and it lasted until a recent engine change.
  15. Thanks for that Les, I liked the airfield shot. I think I first saw the Longbridge picture in "Old Motor" and since then I've been looking for one of their magic paint brushes that don't need a pot of paint to go with it.
  16. I thought this was a rare K2 with twin exhausts but I suppose one negative was reversed ! Any more K2 pictures ?
  17. I love these posed pictures - not a paint pot in sight ! There is another one of K2 Ambulances on the Longbridge production line with a gang of painters all with brushes in contact with the vehicles but no paint pots to be seen.
  18. I remember working on "A Piece of Cake",filming the airfield scenes somewhere in Wiltshire. I was there with a Hillman Utility as part of the RAF ground vehicle complement. Terrific fun with the Spitfires taxying up to and around the vehicles and ground crews. Rumour had it that that Ray Hanna or one of the other pilots lost a tail wheel through clouting an artic on take off as the truck passed by on a nearby road although I never found out if it was true -Any ideas? Tearing up and down on someone elses G3L whilst doubling for one of the characters celebrating his first "kill " was also good fun although peeling off the fake handlebar moustache afterwards was not so good!
