  1. Mike; The tires are Goodyear, US manufacture. The box you asked about is the spare parts box and is fully stocked as per thr TM. On another note on the parts you are collecting for me, you advise to replace the torque rod pins when replacing the torque rods, so please add them to the list! Also part of the deal with the truck, I got a spare rebuilt 22R John G
  2. Here are the photos as promised, the series 5 parked next to it's older brother, the series 2. John G
  3. For those needing the correct siren light knob, I just had these made and have a limited number available. The original knob is on the left. These come with the set screw and will work with a BO drive or panel light switch. $40.00 usd plus shipping. PM me if interested. thanks John G
  4. Hello all; A new addition is scheduled to arrive on Friday. This is the last series 5 from Kevin Kronlund's collection. Kevin was tragically killed in farm accident this past February. This truck was "redone" by Army Cars Holland and was reimported by Kevin in 2002?. I have operated this truck several times at Kevin's fall parties. It has all the goodies, and as any Ward LaFrance owner knows, if you get a truck without all the tools (goodies),you could spend years and a lot of money collecting them all. I need another truck like I need a hole in my head, but I could not pass on this opportunity. The restoration is starting to show it's age, just some minor touch ups are in order. I will post pictures upon it's arrival. So the collection has grown and any more acquisitions in the future will mean getting rid of something. My dad used to say, "never say never" but this is it:) So 1 Diamond T 969A, 1 series 2 and 1 series 5, and a Chevy dump round out the collection. John G
  5. Adrian; I have dealt with that company in the past, must have slipped my mind to tell you. Always good service. Glad you found them. John G
  6. Adrian; When I went through my radiator, half the core was clogged. My truck did not overheat, however, I elected to have a new core put in. Now she does not go over 170 degrees. It was a major expense, but well worth it for peace of mind. Hopefully you can get buy with a flush out. I do have a source in the US who has NOS units for the 969 and 980, but I am sure shippping would be prohibitally exspensive. Keep us apprised of the situation. John G
  7. Much appreciated, a very interesting setup. If I understand this correctly, the combustion actually takes place over the valve and not the piston in that off center area away from the piston? I would think this would inefficient but I am sure there was a good reason. I know on "modern" flat head engine the spark plug is over the valve, however, the piston is in the same "chamber" for combustion. I think I explained that correctly. If you had not posted the pictures I would have been lost. Going back to page 14 of this thread, and looking at the engine pictures it now all makes sense. Again , superb workmanship and I always look forward to the updates . John G
  8. Steve; I think that would be helpful, we always like pictures. thanks John G
  9. MIke; I know there is yellow metal in the transmission, but I thought the rear axles did not have any, just roller bearings. Also, did you recive my email about my inquiry about torque rods. After talking to Jeff Jensen, he seems to agree on GL4EP for the diffs and GL1 for the tranny. Thanks John G
  10. Any thoughts/ recommendations on this for rear axles, tranny's and transfer cases for a Ward LaFrance. John G
  11. O.K. now I understand, thanks for the reply. As always, superb workmanship on the project. John G
  12. I am interested to know what keeps the cap from turning (loosening up) in the recess. John G
  13. Adrian; Sorry, my guy is a no go on the inlet valve, however, he has plenty of exhaust valves. try this guy, Jerry Biro he lives in Ohio. http://www.herculesparts.com/ John G
  14. Dizzy; I do not have a photo, however the 980/981 has 2 stays per side. The rear stay is in the same location as on a 969 and the front is attached to the radiator if I recall, as I had my head under the hood of one last spring! John G
  15. Adrian; I just got off the phone with a source, he will check his stock, should have an answer in a day or 2. John G
  16. All; My gauge rebuilder just sent me these photos of my Diamond T instruments. A little pricey but the before and after pictures speak volumes. I was left speechless. It took me awhile to source the correct Stewart Warner gauges but it was worth the wait John G
  17. Mike; My series 2 was rebuilt in 1952 at the Red River arsenal in Texarkana Texas and then was shipped back to the Belgium Army under MDAP. I have a rebuild tag on the engine block. Check your email, I sent you one. thanks John G
  18. I believe 1952 was when the US Military was starting to replace there WWII era vehicles so the WWII vehicles were rebuilt and given, leased or sold to our allies. Alot of the parts I have acquired over the years are shown with packaged dates of 1952 or reinspection/repackaged dated 1952. John G
  19. Are those additional weight hanging from the front bumper of those 2 wreckers. I would assume for additional traction. John G
  20. Sorry for the confusion, but I was asking about the items on the boom itself, not on the boom tower. Very interestin pictures you posted, as there is a ward lafrance early series, with a aftermarket closed cab and series 5 controls. I also like the Kenworth 571? closed cab with the later series controls, there are not many of those trucks left. thanks for posting. John G
  21. Can anyone shed light on what is sitting on top of the boom, looks like there are 3 identical items. John G
  22. This is a video I shot over the past year of my 14 y.o. son learning to drive "his" truck. Enjoy John G
  23. Attached is a series of videos of Andy learning to drive his Ward. His shifting improved over time. First shot in January of this year and the last was this past wekend. He is one happy 14 year old and I am one proud dad. Boys just never grow up. This was shot at the Tuckahoe Gas and Ssteam Association in Easton, Md.. It is where we keep the truck. Enjoy..... John G
  24. While working on my Ward LaFrance G116, I determined that I needed a siren light switch. After considerable searching, I was able to acquire an NOS unit. Using the knob as a template, I had it reproduced. It is exact in every detail, it even comes with the set screw. I had several extra knobs made, as I figured other members could use them. This is the knob only, you need to supply the switch. You can use a B.O. drive or panel light switch, just unscrew the knob and screw this one on. $40.00 USD per knob, plus shipping, I can ship worldwide, please PM me if you are interested. John G
