  1. Joe; NAPA carries EP90. Their supplier is ASHLAND Oil Co. (Valvoline). If you buy the 5 gallon pail labeled Valvoline it is $115.00, if you buy the 5 gallon pail labeled NAPA it is $82.00 it is the same oil. Thanks for the lead on the other oil. John G.
  2. Here is a picture I found on the internet of a vice mount. The truck is owned by Tauber's towing in Baltimore, Md. Also I included a picture of a Kenworth (the nicest one I have ever seen). John G
  3. Sam; You know, you really did not have to take the differential carrier out to check for all of us:wow:, but I really appreciate your effort. So like did it take you around 30 minutes to remove it from under the truck:yawn: but I am sure you had it done no later than lunch time. Seriously thou, I know the removal job was a pain in the butt, but I can rest easier now knowing there is no yellow metal in the differential because I was not looking forward to another 5 gallon differential LUBEFEST. Hope you get the truck back in order soon! thanks Sam. John G
  4. Sam; I read that oil change interval also, and I think that if it was followed, they would not find water in the differentials;) However, I think those intervals were not followed during "in theater" operations. Also, the engine oil change interval is 1000 miles. John G
  5. Richard; That is a Ward series 2, if you go to page 13, post 123 you can see a better picture of it. John G
  6. Here are pictures of the process of reinstalling the head after it was removed because of a stuck intake valve and bent pushrod. In one picture you will see a stamping on top of the block of 01-15-50 (rebuild date?) . A forklift made an easy job of reinstalling the head:).
  7. Here are photos that were requested of the trouble light socket and of the support bar for the grille guard. The rod diameter is 5/8 inch and is approx. 27 1/2 inches long. John G
  8. Maurice; The stamping is very faint, I did not see mine until I stripped the frame to bare metal. After I repainted the frame the number "disappeared". John G
  9. Sam; I was rereading the TM the other night , specifically the tool allocations and their locations and mentioned are the toolboxes under the boom. My truck has tool lockers for the ropes and a quite different arrangement then your truck, so looking at your pictures it is starting to make sense. The pictures I posted of the Ward towing the boat is Jeff Jensen's truck. He launches and recovers this boat twice a year. It is stored next to his shop. John
  10. That is the series parallel switch. It "joins" both 6 volt batteries to give you 12 volts to start by putting them in series and after starting it goes back to parallel. You place the heel of your foot on the switch and push down to start. John G
  11. All; When I get back down to my truck I will take pictures also, The socket is the same as used on the half tracks. John G
  12. The Diamond T,s chassis number should be on the right frame rail just ahead of the rear spring hanger for the front spring. JohnG
  13. We ended up using a 90wt GL-1 in the tranny and transfer case. We used GL-5 in the differentials as there is a hypoid /worm gear action going on and we did not see any bronze as we checked the ORD 9 parts breakdown. ( I may stand corrected on this) We did remove a small amount of water from the tranny, but the transfer and differentials were just filled with oil. We used 90wt Gl-1 in the winch gear cases. I like the term Lubefest. John G
  14. Well a major milestone was reached today. All the wiring was completed on the dash and the gauges were installed. I have been working on this over the course of 10 hours over several days. I reinstalled the heater that was installed by the Belgium Army, so the white knob you see is the heater control. The siren light control will go next to the left wiper control knob. When I was done and just stood back and took it all in......... The 2 lines you see hanging down to the right of the steering column support are the oil pressure gauge and viscosity meter gauge lines along with the tach and speedo lines. John G
  15. As mentioned previously, prior to purchasing this truck, I had driven it at Kevin Kronlund's annual fall parties for for 3 years. It never ran 100 % as we suspected stale gas. Well 2 weeks ago, the gas was drained and our suspicions were confirmed. Fresh gas and spark plugs were put in. She ran better but still had a miss. Carb was adjusted, point gap checked, still no improvement. The following week we went ahead with a valve adjustment and the problem was located. The number 4 intake valve was frozen shut along with a bent pushrod. So the head was removed and was taken to the machine shop. The machinist's first question was "Did this truck sit a lot" which we told him yes. The ethonal gas crystalized around the valve guide. No damage was found, the head was hot tanked along with the water distribution manifold. 2 days later we picked up the head. A new pushrod was sourced from Monte's equipment. The head was reinstalled and she runs like a swiss watch now. When I get the pictures from my friend, I will post them of the work done. A forklift made easy work of the job. Question: How long does it take to change all the gear oils and grease the truck. Well we did it in 6 hours! John G
  16. At the request of several people, I have posted pictures of the tool boxes on the series 5. I have the bench vise but I do not know what toolbox it goes in, the TM does not state it on the list of tools carried, however, it is listed in the ORD 9. I have to make the bracket for it. It would seem logical, that the the vise would be unbolted from the base bracket to ease storing it in a toolbox. Any ideas? I also included a shot of the cab and the left side of the engine. John G
  17. These pictures of the spare parts box mounted on the wrecker frame were taken at the request of Mike Gillman. I also took a picture of the wrecker bed with camo netting and the small CO 2 extinguisher on the right side of the wrecker frame John G
  18. Hello all; Could some post pictures of the top installed on open cab Ward LaFrance. My truck came with a new canvas cover in box with no instructions. Reading the TM's were not much help Thanks in advance John G
  19. Mike; I will work on the picture(s) The pins look tight, but if they are available, better to be safe than sorry. Let me know if you need any other detail pictures. John
