  1. No, I think you've been stitched up.
  2. This is a bit of a rarity I found on the web some years ago. Anyone know what it shows?
  3. Yes I know what you mean. The very first prototype had vertical armour at the sides & a very obvious slatted radiator cover. Yes CW it is for the desert, although the colour is a bit of a give away. This looks a bit of a boy racer fantasy machine but is in fact a "4x4 Desert Patrol" from the "Skirmisher" range from Hotspur which is part of the Penman Group.
  4. These Bomb Sight Computors were sold in 1950-60s by Arthur Sallis, 93 North Road, Brighton. Although I bought a lot of surplus electrical stuff from this interesting shop, I never bought one of these computors (note spelling) In his illustrated catalogue they looked to be a mass of dials & gear wheels. One purchase I did make was a time bomb mechanism. These were electro-wound spring mechanisms that could be set form 15 mins to 44 days. It did work, but schoolboy meddling with a screwdriver soon put paid to that. I'm a bit confused about the Stores Vocab Ref, it doesn't tie in with the 1948 lists I have. Although other wartime bits I have seen do conform to the 1948 lists. So perhaps there was a change of system during the war?
  5. It's even got a box for the newspaper & milk delivery!
  6. Well what do you all make of this one? A little bit of everything on here!
  7. 107" wb 1959 Contract No. 6/V/28020 Asset Code 1146-0758 but recoded as 1150-0758 The badge would be red with trident & edging in yellow About the right era as a control vehicle for Blue Water but the badging doesn't match for that role.
  8. A few more memories for you Neil:
  9. Ah I see. I took that info from "Craftsmen of the Army" Vol 2 1969-1992. That was the only reference to 31 Comd Wksp, although written by two distinguished Brigadiers it is always best to go back to the "real" documents. Looking in JSP 301 it lists inter-service vehicle recovery facilities in UK. This shows: Det 31 Comd Wksp at Longtown Det 31 Comd Wksp at Killingworth 31 Comd Wksp at Catterick Sorry for confusion, I mustn't always believe what the officer tells me!
  10. 31 Command Workshop was a civilian workshop at Killingworth. It was closed in April 1977 but that predates the rebuild!
  11. Seems a good idea, although you can't colourise a deletion. I earlier deleted a picture & substituted an updated view & removed a price reduction.
  12. Yes it does. Neil should I be wearing special spectacles?
  13. Ah that's better back to normal. I had asked to have an advert modified but to no avail, now much more sensible I have been able to sort it myself.:yay:
  14. http://forum.emlra.org/index.php You can join the forum without belonging to EMLRA, although there is a separate member's section away from public viewing.
  15. Check that the screen duct isn't full of dead flies, fag ash & sweet papers. I never found the screen heater was much cop. Remove the tube where it goes into the duct, if there is warm air coming out & the duct is clear & still no screen heat, then the best thing you can do this weather is to stick the tube up your left trouser leg. I always found it gave some measure of comfort in winter. Problem with the speedo is the moulded plastic clip holding the cable into the back of the speedo was prone to snap or disengage & the cable would not always make contact to drive the speedo properly.
  16. Ah so you were just teasing, oh that's alright then. I knew an experienced & skilled automotive craftsman such as yourself working for one of the leading companies specialising in restorations for the discerning collector would never stoop so low as to the use foul or contemptuous references to a variant of the endangered FV1600 species.
  17. Please leave the room, I don't think we need that sort of talk here.
  18. I've only seen pics of the Malayan RL ones & they look pretty snouty. Although it may be a comment on the handling or a reflection of the comfort within the vehicle. David Fletcher once told me there was type of vehicle used in Malaya called The Bastard.
  19. Well not a Humber Pig. But it may well have been known as a Pig. When you speak to veterans of the Malayan Emergency they refer to a Pig as an armoured Bedford RL which flats sides, I wonder if this mine-deflecting vehicle in Aden is a Bedford?
  20. Some years before that I tried to take my LtWt there & was made to feel so unwanted & so embarrassed for turning up in a Land Rover that I ended up parking it in the public carpark. Those were the days!
  21. IRR NATO Green with disruptive IRR Matt Black. Mine came out of service about then but it was all IRR NATO Green. The reason for that was it was not part of BAOR & had fairly limited role at a UK barracks.
  22. Hello Kevin I used to have a 2A ambulance it was 30 FJ 20 which was part of a very big batch. The big batch before that seemed to be 'ER'. Is the reg no not on the contract plate? Is that chassis number correct? Looks a bit as if someone filled in a form & had to put something down & so wrote 123456?
  23. True for a S3 Lightweight, but the Rover 1 ie 2A Lightweight was classed as 1/4 Ton.
