  1. Lauren here is one of threads covering the colour issue for water jerrycans. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?25311-Metal-Jerry-Can-for-water
  2. Terry so presumably Mk 5 but APC or ACV?
  3. Richard I think probably the latter reason as the RAF versions seem to trail behind the WO version. Going on the dates of the Design Specs. 1951 GS 1952 RAF GS 1952 Water Tanker 1953 Wireless Light 1954 RAF Water Tanker
  4. The version of DM6-BN215 listed in my 1963 VAOS is 40308H as opposed to 40308A for the RAF although that is 9 years earlier it just says Austin 1 Ton 4x4. I can't find 40147 listed in 16E. My 1953 Austin Parts List WO Code No.17735 quotes: DM6-BN125, 40308A - vehicles without wireless DDBCH9A, 40309A -screened for wireless vehicles
  5. I see there were similar mods for Mk 5: APC & Ambulance May 1975. ACV Dec 1975 Ambulance further mods March 1976.
  6. Sorry I omitted to say that this EMER applied specifically to Saracen Mk 6 (VHF) (RFC) Asset Code 0035.8001
  7. It would depend on whether the modification had been carried out in accordance with EMER WHEELED VEHICLES V617 Mod Instr. No. 89 March 1974. This was issued on blue paper indicating it was for immediate implementation. "Interior padding is cemented to the interior surfaces in the hull and turret to improve crew safety and ballistic protection." The kit was supplied with 66 pads in 52 different shapes, some required cutting punches to be applied so it seems that they were just this thick horse hair matting. It was intended for "all vehicles held by user units"
  8. I beg your pardon its not foam that is what my Shorland has covered with Trakmark. On the Mk 2 Pig I had the lining was a thick 'horse hair' matting covered with Trakmark, which I assumed was the same for Saracens.
  9. My RAF 16E Vocabulary of MT Electrical Eqpt (1954) gives: Model No DM6-BN215 Part No.40308A 16E/19623
  10. Terry surely this pieces are not Kevlar but just Trakmark that covers a piece of foam rubber?
  11. I'm now down to 62 days 15 hours The phones aren't much better either. Met a horse rider down our lane yesterday who said she had just texted my wife. I suggested she give me the message & I walk back to the house with the message. As you know I am neither fit nor young but I did deliver the message before the text did.
  12. I wonder who's got the slowest broadband upload speed? It's just that I started backing up to a "cloud" 24 hours ago. It'll be a little while..... I think this was half my old dial up speed. Has anyone got it as slow as this?
  13. When people do it to my vehicles, depending on my mood it either amuses or annoys me. The later is particularly so when it is before 0800. But I confess I did tap a vehicle at W&P this year. I was greatly intrigued by the "triangular" profiled Russian armoured car. Without a few taps I could gain no immediate appreciation of the relative thinness of the bodywork. Although thinness is not everything. I notice tappers on my Shorland seem relatively satisfied with the soundings from the body, but great disappointment is often expressed when the Land Rover wing is tapped. Exclamations are sometimes made that it is a fake or just are mock-up. Just occasionally you get someone who has the curiosity to look under the wheel arch & taps the armour protecting the engine bay. Now that is the sort of tapper I am very pleased to meet :-D
  14. Do they have imprints that show different contractors? Are those both Kidbrooke or Chilwell publications? Even amongst those two on page 45 there are varied colours.
  15. Did anyone actually go? I got up early & was ready to leave on time but it was still raining heavily & knew I would be too late for an undercover pitch. Didn't think I would recoup the £8 pitch fee so gave it a miss. A shame because this afternoon it has been quite nice.
  16. Lauren the subject of colour for publications of their various kinds is touched on in pages 41-43 of this: http://hmvf.co.uk/pdf/CRACKING%20THE%20CODES%20v2.00.pdf
  17. Terry if you are after Dunlop Trakmark there is some for sale by the foot. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRAKMARK-in-Beige-Boat-Decking-etc-Hard-to-find-product-NSN-9330-99-881-8119-/301264605430?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_BoatEquipment_Accessories_SM&hash=item4624c510f6
  18. I was thinking of making up a little notice: One tap - 20p Three taps - 30p
  19. I used to leave one locker unlocked. Inside was a large label: "DON'T BE SO NOSEY" There were two responses: A shocked expression & a slamming of the lid or A grin & a chuckle Smoke dischargers are a deep source of fascination for visitors. On one vehicle I could use canvas covers & this greatly reduced curiosity. On another vehicle that didn't have covers. I had a label "These things are smoke dischargers - Do not talk to the man" None the less the rubber covers seem to invite groping as it were. I did an experiment that groping activities on the pointed ones were very common, yet the flat covers invited very little physical contact.
  20. No problem here Richard just been on & had a look around. Seems ok & nothing that my mother wouldn't want me to see :-D
  21. Oh dear that is sad. It has been depressing to see him deteriorating in the last few years. A little while ago he had the presence of mind to pass on some rare photos which he felt should be shared for publication, which indeed they have. I fondly remember the sortouts he would arrange at his place which were a highlight in the Christmas period where we could buy bit & pieces whilst meeting people outside the normal show season. This event morphed into the Dallas Sortouts where indeed Bernard would often be seen.
  22. Hmm yes almost as bad as this one I get "Called a Pig because it is a pig to drive" NO! It is very easy & a delight to drive :-D
  23. Yes I'll be going with some stuff to sell including some Saracen EMERs & parts books. It seemed a better choice than going to a local show where I have to pay a water & WC fee even though I take my own water, my own portaloo & bring it all home again.
