I think in this instance the wires are simply twisted together & provided you twisted in the correct direction those white ceramic do-das, which have an internal thread, just twist over the twisted wires. The ceramic holds the twisted wires & of course gives a degree of insulation. Rather crude but quite effective. I have just had to fit a new lead to my Chinese workshop halogen light that uses this method.

  7. Gung the lightweight 12x12 was principally for the RAF. I don't have details of modern stuff I'm afraid. All the tentage I have mentioned appears in the Joint Service Handbook of Tentage JSP 361 plus the details of individual tents in supplements JSP 361/1 - JSP 361/22. These are all from the 1980s. I also have Stores & Clothing Research Development Establishment "Tents & Shelters in Service & under Development" 1973. Plus a few hand books & Equipment Table Schedule 3184/4 for the 12x12 GP. The obsolete ones I mentioned like Assembly 'C' was mobile blacksmith/mobile cookhouse, 'D' bakery oven. But these were rather different in construction to the 12x12. Yes you are correct that within each NSN for a complete shelter the component parts have their own individual NSNs. If there are any of them that you want me to identify I can see what parent shelter they were designed to match up to.

  10. Ok glad you put the FV designation because there is Panel, Distribution, No.1 Mk 1 & also Box, Distribution, No.1 Mk 1. The Box repairs are in EMER POWER P 164/1 (Part 1) There is a circuit diagram on page 64 of this: http://hmvf.co.uk/pdf/ALL%20CHARGED%20UP%204%20ver4-1.pdf Bear in mind even when the circuit breakers are open there will still be through resistance of 165-191 ohms Unlike a trip switch they need a sustained period of overload 30A breaker 35A for 15 mins 60A for 15-50 secs 100A for 4-6 secs 10A breaker 11A for 15 mins 20A for 10-25 secs

  12. Humber one is 2 Ton rating. But I have found the scans they are in the form of a pdf as I quite often get asked for the info. If you send me a PM with you email address I can send it anyway as there are likely to be similarities in design & function.

  15. Rory judging by the 10 cwt designation yours is a wartime trailer. However there is a general presumption that these were used in WW2 only & everything else used after was a Brockhouse or a Sankey. In fact in the 1950s-60s later versions of these trailers were still being used. EMERs continued to be issued into the mid 1960s. The more modern version of yours was: Trailer, 1/2 Ton, 4.2in, Mortar Ammunition No.1, 2 Wheeled Looks like this in the 1960 parts list.

  17. That would have been nice Keith. I think acceptance & appreciation by vets is the greatest compliment. Words like "You have turned this vehicle out better than we did, thank you" are as good as you can get.
  18. Lauren I haven't been to Duxford for 25 years so I didn't know what they had got. The cutaway one looks fun & of course the the UN one. The Sqn had a UN peacekeeping role in Cyprus 1974 though most of their Ferrets were green/black with blue UN badges. The reunion has been held in the vicinity of Duxford for about 5 years, so they have probably seen those. I was asked by the secretary to see if I could find someone locally with one. I think the thing is to be able get up close & climb aboard, not the sort of thing one can do at a museum. When I had the Hornet & reunions were more local many revived their memories by climbing on board again.
  19. Looks WW1 to me I have a black one that looks the same design. Sold to me as a mounted infantry one, but I spotted the significance of the stamp "LONDON 1922"

  21. Is there anyone with a Ferret Mk 2/3 or even Mk 5! willing to display their Ferret at Duxford Sat 20 June please? It is the reunion of the Para Sqn RAC Old Comrades Association & they would really appreciate seeing kit like a Ferret that they served with. In fact one of them bears the wounds of "Ferret finger syndrome" but still holds these vehicles in affection! If anyone is able to help please PM me & I can put you in touch with the secretary.
