  1. I mean; it was ok that they used them for the movie snce the story played in Libya - which saw presence of the British Forces then (and the movie-expedition was lead by a "typical British ;-))
  2. Colleagues; these days I had seen "Sole Survivor" and american TV-movie related to the fate of the "Lady be Good", the B.24 which went lost in the desert of Libya. Anyhow - the investigation team in the movie was driving two Austin Champs (beside two US vehicles). Since the movie was definitely filmed in the US, I would ask the question if the Champ was also available across the Atlantic, maybe even with the US Army?
  3. Another airodrome where military & civillian aircraft landed was in Libya: Tobruk / el-Adem. I know that it is not the place shown in the first picture but I could easily imagine that at such places, the tankers were civillian & military.
  4. Good. But why the Maltese cross? Would have presumed that the Maltese had planes of British origin (if they had something like this - this size).
  5. ...and what is the plane with the Maltese cross behind the Mustang?
  6. It is not a bomber but a transport plane - as per the original description in the first post it is a Fiat G.212
  7. Do I understand correct that the "Allied" counted 26 nations against Germany & Japan?
  8. And what stands the "U" for today? Thought that the Irish had left the United Kingdom a certain time ago.

Leben & Arbeiten; richtig. In Libyen. Warm?

  12. ...ah; Centi - don't worry about your English. First of all it improves only by using the language and second (and this is now only for you, not for the rest of the froum-mebers): In most of the regions and countries where the people declare that they are speaking English they actually do not. They just want to make you believi that their language is English. That's not the case - fact :-)
  13. It looks like I am getting old. A good part of the vehicles "joined" my time in the Swiss Army and now they are already in a museum. Unbelieveable... Jeep, Henschel, 2DM etc.
  14. ...was the M8 that model which was able to come back on its wheels when it was fallen aside without external help?
  15. Noch ein Schweizer; ich glaub jetzt sind wir "schon" zu zweit ;-)

  16. Wantet to say it as well the SAURER trucks may not look "nice" but they are very interesting vehicles (better were :-(). So, if you could provide some details about that particular truck, loooots of pictures etc. then I think many of the forum members here would see a vehicle they did not know until today...
  17. @ Garry; never came across a Bagnold-type sun compass.
  18. A German 1942 sun compass on a photograph of "Sonderkommando Dora" - they concluded that the instrument was rather useless since the shadow-bar always went lost... (Photo provided by Michael Rolke)
  19. And a link: http://rapidttp.com/milhist/vol024mn.html
  20. @ Garry; photos of the sun-compass or of its manual?
