Hah Bws Scammell Explorer RAF tractor, its the recovery version i have just completed have to admit its not the most straight forward of metal kits to complete

I do like to make models of the heavies and this is a all resin 1/76 kit by Convoy of the White 666 truck with a 20 ton Rogers plant trailer, i have on the bench at the moment albeit in the early stages a Le Tournau dozer to mount on the back. The completed truck and trailer are now on a base waiting the load

C.W in all the years i have been making models i have never really bothered to count the hours butthe snows diorama took around 45 hours. I work in all medias plastic, resin, metal etched brass i often use metal wheels and undercarrage on a lot of my plastic and resin models. Some i scatch build others i convert and some i just super detail the kits and some are good whilst others can be a nightmare and often when this problem starts i go on to something else and come back to the problem model in stages, i have plenty more to show if theres a interest cheers Les

Most of my modelling is in 1/76-72 scale but i do at times have a go at larger items in 1/35 i am slowly building a collection of Montgomerys HQ vehicles as used in Europe. The photos attached are a couple from my 1/76 collection and show a Haulmatic 15 ton dump truck , acouple of photos in construction and two finished the last as i intended with the twin axle tilt bed trailer with a Michigan tractor load. the second is a diorama called last snows and depicts US armour on the move following the collapse of the German forces in the Ardenne

The Hippo was a WW2 design truck the MK1 with a open cab and canvas roof came into service around 1939, these featured twin rear wheels 36-8. In 1944 the MK2 was introduced with a panel cab and large single 14.00-20 tyres and shortly after the MK2A withthe odd tyre arrangement of 10.50-22 front and 36x8 rears. the last two did indeed serve on well into the 1970s the MK2A being some of the last

Time does fly by Richard, yes i remember the Tenterden episode when the surrounding houses complained of the diturbance they probably thought it was the midnight sun and did they not get a complaint from aircraft at one time with the beam of light shining in the flight path

Richard that Tilling of Bill Hookers if iam correct is the one hauled out of Fairground operater John Forrest yard a few years ago, i remember that as a kid on the show circuit in Kent it towed a wooden box trailer mounted on a ex military Eagle chassis the power source had obvious uses on the showground

Hi Dave your Guy it would appear from the photo is the 4x4 guntractor built to tow the 6pdr anti tank gun it looks from the out side to be in a reasonable condition and is indeed a rare beast. The attached photo will show how it should look when restored the shot is a bit on the small side but i will have a trawl and find a couple more for you, as i typed this i remembered where i stored these so have included them as well i think we all look forward to seeing the finised result

A further photo of a static Bofors this one gives a better idea of crew positions, this photo was taken in 1944 about a mile from where i live now the local mayor was on a army PR tour of AA defences the field now boasts a small housing estate

A small number of these were used by showmen there slow speed not that important at the time especially when towing two or three heavy trailers, this immaculate example carries the power generators for Stanley Thurston

As you will all be aware a number of Diamond Ts after demob worked on the fairground this rare photo shows one of Thurstons vehicles befores its well known paint job

This may be useful, by 1944 it was flying bombs that were the problem, i say that tounge in cheek as german fighters often came in on sneak hit and run raids and the area you are to build would have been a prime target

The tarps on the MMS kits are seperate so can put to one side if not required, they are cast in metal as per the kit but it should be easy enough to cut the back out with a hack saw and make up a rolled canvas to place on the roof. One trick i use to save useing loads of cans or boxes etc is to make a three piece false floor to just below the top of the body line and then you will need just one layer of cans, if its to be loaded with boxes these can take 1,2 or even three layers . The trucks are Bedford OXC but use the same cab as the OY, they are classed at 6 ton 4x2-2 Bedford/Scammell the trailer being the Scammell componant. the photo shows the flat bed trailer but tanker, general service and signal bodies were also used. The Cooper craft models are very much hit and miss but the chassis might be useful, the only use i ever found for the wheels was to use them on trailers and the cab needs a lot of work to build a decent AEC Mention was made as to the use of the flimsies in this period i believe some were still at large but there does seem to be a awful lot in the photo which points to a slightly earlier date but this should not detract you from useing the photo as a model reference plus model jerry cans are more widely available cheers Les

It must have been all of 20 years ago i called into Biggin Hill airport on business and to have a nose around of course in the week preceeding the airshow and found parked up amongst the showman vehicles waiting to enter and set up this Antar MK1 running on trade plates. It was in excellent condition and towed a Dyson 50 ton trailer any one have any idea who owned it at the time and is it still out there
