  1. Thanks Chris. Putting the new piece of metal in has certainly restored some rigidity back into it....
  2. An early start sees the start of some light restoration to the battery carrier, the metal is really thin in places but I am quietly plodding on with it.......still plenty of work to do but I am pleased with the progress....
  3. Funnily enough the last few Burman CP boxes I have touched always seem to be missing the kick start bump stop, it’s only because of the exploded diagram that I noticed I needed it.... you are totally right Lex, the mechanism is so much better with it fitted.....👍
  4. Thanks Lex....the before shot maybe missing a few components, I have added a new kickstart bumper.....good spotting on the clutch adjustment screw.....I think I may of been only 1/2 awake this morning...😂 The poor gearbox was in a sorry state when I got it, floating about in the bottom of a dirty box in lots of bits....it’s taken a little longer than anticipated to complete the built of it but it’s imperative it’s just right.....I am pleased, just hope it all works now 🤞
  5. A 6.00am start in the shed before works see most of the gearbox fitted and assembled.....I do have feeling I forgot to fit something inside? 🙈 time will tell.....here’s a before and after shot....
  6. Looking at what missing bits I am left to source I am finding it difficult to ascertain which ammeter is the correct type for the early panel tank? Whilst talking of the panel tank I can see plenty of repro DC40 inspection switches, has anyone got any experience of the quality of the repros? Originals seem few and far between?
  7. Thanks Ron. I have made a few calculations, fingers crossed the holes are in a similar place, any issues I shall let you know.......we had a nice mild morning today so I spent and hour before work spraying....!
  8. The front mudguard components ready for preparation and painting. Currently I am using the later G3L front stays but when fitted it should not be noticeable. I was lucky enough to find the correct rear stay ambiguously listed on eBay. I have done a dry fit and it’s all fitting very nicely.
  9. O ek, I better check my new (old) battery carrier and the carrier I have on my G3L....... I have ordered some sheet metal and petit welding rods so once arrived I can set to work on reinvigorating the front portion of the carrier. Tomorrow's job is to complete the dry fit of the front mudguard, I now have all of the components to press forward I just need to figure out where to drill the front mudguard stay and the front number plate pegs.
  10. Thanks gents, this is great. I think I will have a go at making one of these!
  11. I only have a primitive ARC welder set up at present, however, we have a special bond 😉 I have welded many things with it, including cast, so I am sure with enough patience I can weld this up. I have seen that AMC classics have repro replacements but it would be nice to keep an original part, if salvageable 🙂 Looking at your photo Ron I can see your battery clamp bolt look to have a elongated hex head. Are these available anywhere that you know of?
  12. Thanks to the help and assistance of several kind gentleman a number of the missing components have now been sourced. Currently I am not quiet sure ho I am going to repair the outer battery carrier, but keen to keep as much originality as possible.... Watch this space
  13. Fantastic! Thanks gents.....I can crack on with the assembly of it! I will soon be turning my attention to the construction of the bottom end of the engine. Currently all of the bushes are missing from the timing side, which I maybe able to source from AMC classics, however, I have have a spare set of good bushes in a spare set of cases. Has anyone successfully removed bushes without damaging them or us it better to use new? 👍
  14. Hi All, all very interesting information regarding the saddle, this will be the first bungee saddle in my little collection too! So moving on with my gearbox build I appear to have hit my first hurdle, the gear selector shaft looks to be a very snug fit within the camshaft bush, kick start end, this means I cannot fit the camshaft roller bearings. I believe that the camshaft bush is the Ariel WNG type rather they the Matchless type, as I understand the WNG type does not require the roller bearings to be fitted? Is this a rebuild improvement or just a mistake? I don’t fancy putting it back together if it’s wrong....

  16. Well done Lex, Ron I am happy to follow this up, il keep you posted.
  17. This all makes sense now, thank you gents! Just the bungees to find! Ron your saddle frame looks almost identical to mine? Lex, I purchased the trip speedo separately I am afraid, it was not with the bike when I bought it👍
  18. Thank you gents! My G3 is from the same contract as Ron’s. So it appears the saddle may of been changed at some point in the bikes life. I have noted that my saddle is quite different on the front of it compared to the saddle which Chris kindly shared. It’s almost as if it’s been converted to take springs....? A few more hours and a few more jobs done. The current saddle frame and springs fitted, side stand on, speedo under construction and gearbox shell in place. It’s starting to look like a bike!
  19. The restoration of the saddle is now also underway, it wasn’t in a pretty state but slowly coming good! Just some seat springs now.....I have seen some generic Lycette replica sets available on the web, assuming these will be suitable?.
