  1. Hi Ron, I an not quite sure how this is held in at the moment.....I thing I might need to make something πŸ€”
  2. Thinking restoring an ammeter was easy, sill me πŸ™ˆ I have finally got there and pleased with the end result, a little patina and fully operational. Some reference images before during and after should anyone fancy doing the same.πŸ‘ Just a original DC40 inspection lamp to to go to complete the set.......
  3. Ron, where did you route the tail lamp/brake light cables? Is there a small hole in the guard underneath of the plate?
  4. What a lovely G3! I can only hope mine is half as nice.....
  5. Looks great Ron, the Simonize wheel silver is great, I use it frequently.
  6. To add my plate sit almost identical to that outlined on Lex’s spare guard.......
  7. I have just checked my orginal rear guard and it does have the top number plate fixing holes close to the rivits, as per Rons. I have now just fitted my number plate in a similar position. looking at the below detailed picture it appears that the rear number plate on both machines leaves quiet a sizeable space between the underside of the mudguard and the tip of the mudguard πŸ€”
  8. Cheers Ron. sorry I don’t know why I ask that question again, too many cocktails last night.πŸ™ˆ Talking of tinware variances I have noticed that the tyre pump retainer, to stop the pump going into the back wheel, appear different on this image to some of the earlier matchless G3’s, I assume there must of been a few variances?
  9. Thanks gents I shall investigate and report back. I do have the orginal guard but rust worm has eaten the number plate area away πŸ™ˆ hears hoping mine is long enough to accept the number plate 🀞 Does the base of the number plate over shot the end of the mudguard, please?
  10. Morning all! I have a little time on my hands this weekend so I am going to get the rear number plate fitted. As my rear mudguard is a repro, currently it hasn’t any holds drilled in it for the number plate. Would any of you kind G3 owners be able to guide me on the location of the plate, on the rear guards, please? coincidently, which route should the rear light cable/s take?
  11. Thanks Ron. that’s really helpful and confirms my suspicion. I just need to get it apart now and clean it up. πŸ™‚
  12. Tentatively buying up some of the last few missing parts my repro ammeter has arrived.....it has a nice β€˜look’ to it but maybe the needle lets it down just a bit.....? After a few hours trawling the net I came across what I hope is a very good authentic alternative. It’s in need of a clean up and strip down but I am very pleased with it...... Pictures of the G3’s early tank panel appear few and far between the little information I have managed to find shows an ammeter almost identical.......🀞
  13. I have to admit I did use a little masking tape whilst applying the gas paint but I did refrain from spraying it on in favour of a brush. πŸ™ˆ A few weeks behind Ron but I have finally fitted my saddle bungees, very comfortable indeed! I alternated the length of the front nose hooks to create a pattern which helps the bungees to fit snuggly. I have not been happy with the fit and look of the front number plate of late so I have now chopped it and refitted it in line with a period photo I came across......
  14. Thanks Leggy It will be nice to catch up for a ride in the not to distant future......πŸ‘
  15. Lex is right! Been a productive day on the G3 today, the Smiths Speedo has become a bit of labour of love but it’s finally back together and ready to go......someone cut the trip reset knob straight of so I have spend hours soldering an extension back on and readying it for a new knob 🀭. It’s highly frustrating trying to drill such a small hole in the new extension but job done! You may note a very straight drive pin, it’s the early Jaeger type but without the screw hole to secure the early speedo cable......Headlamp now also finished and wiring set in place.........
  16. Still being very cold here I have been ordering up some of the missing parts to help scoot things along once the bottom end is finished......I am really please with these items and cannot wait to get them fitted.......
  17. Slow going in these - temperatures but each job done, no matter how small, is another ticked of the list........the headlamp medallion is now fitted and the shell is ready for wiring up........
  18. Nice job Ron, I look forward to seeing it fitted!
