  1. Hi all.....a few cold but productive days on the build.....gear box cases painted....
  2. Ron, I think you maybe right with the number stamped in the casing as rebuild date. ๐Ÿ‘
  3. Thanks gents.....Lex, if you can buy a couple, fantastic, currently I am lever less....I have been looking for some photos but also struggling to find some....
  4. With a little time on my hands due to the Welsh lockdown I have been cleaning up and piecing the gearbox together ready for painting and installation......new bearings make a world of difference. I have noticed what appears to be a broad arrow stamped on the shell alone with an extremely long gearbox number which I havenโ€™t seen before? I am yet to find a correct gear lever for the build, is there anything particular about it or is it fairly standard?
  5. Hi All. I just wanted to take the time to wish you all a safe and pleasant Christmas break! Thank you to everyone who has helped me along with this project, all the help and guidance has been invaluable and most grateful. The perfect distraction from a rather odd year! stay safe ๐Ÿ‘
  6. Nice work Ron! looking great!
  7. Thanks you Gents so much, this is really helpful stuff. 79x100 I have dropped you a PM.
  8. Perfect, thanks Ron! sounds like it might be a little tricky to find... Steve
  9. So with Christmas fast approaching I have put the bike down for a few days......I am on the hunt for a few more missing parts, can I ask, what is deemed the correct decompression/value lever for the G3, please?
  10. Iโ€™m having a Matchless hate day today Ron. I have spent most of the weekend felting, removing/re-fitting/fighting with the rear tinware. The rear mudguard is a repro part and unfortunately poor fitting. Once I improved the fitting of it the remainder of the parts started to slot together much easier. I am now fairly pleased with the end result.......
  11. Thanks Tom. I shall check it out! All the best Steve
  12. Thanks Ron.. I have hit a bit of a mile stone this week, forks together wheels on, all I need is a saddle and I can start scooting around on it! I am really please with the the rolling chassis. The forks and wheels are revitalised and much more serviceable. The forks where solid and very much seized when I purchased the project, itโ€™s amazing what a bit of elbow grease achieves. ๐Ÿ™‚
  13. Thanks Lex! I shimmed it up but I will double check ๐Ÿ‘
  14. The last of the brake pads fitted and the front brake plate now ready for fitting....
  15. After hours of felting I still struggled fitting the bearing adjustment ring. I therefore used a partially damaged one and sandwiched a bespoke spacer between that and the the bearing cup. A trim down and clean up and hay prestos! Maybe not by the manual but perfectly serviceable.
  16. Hi all. So work on the G3 has been a little slower this week, the wheel rebuilds are nearly completed but I have been having major trouble screwing down in the bearing adjuster ring in both wheels. The threads are clean and greased but after one or two turns the adjuster rings tighten up and only a small chisel and hammer will continue the tightening (Which I am not keen on doing). I am now trying to think of other ways to get these rings tightened.........
  17. Thanks Chris. Unfortunately I donโ€™t have a spare bottom or top yoke I am sorry!
  18. Thanks Lex. I think I have the replacement gear sorted....(I have a spare parts gearbox) Any issues Il give you a shout ๐Ÿ‘its nice to see the project turning a corner ๐Ÿ™‚
  19. I have finally found all of the gearbox components ready for inspection, cleaning and assembly. It appears that one of the gears sheared a tooth and subsequently shredded some of the other gears/drive cogs in the process. At least I now know why it came in a box of bits! Just waiting on new gaskets and main bearings....
  20. The chain case has needed a lot of work to remove the pin holes and a lot of pitting but itโ€™s now nearly ready for the top coat.........
  21. Thanks Gents. At least I now know what I am looking for ๐Ÿ™‚ A good productive day today, both wheels now nearly finished complete with new tyres. A few space just been sprayed so a rolling chassis is imminent ๐Ÿ™‚
  22. So gents I am intrigued as to the correct rear licence plate holder I should be fitting to my bike? I have searched the net but cannot find anything definitive?
