  1. Thank you Jan, I am getting there slowly but surely.
  2. As promised, an update on the build....... The barrel has now come back after boring and I treated myself to some more vapour blasting including cleaning up the head. I have run with the G3L rocker box as it’s tuck up under the tank but I still have the blind bushes to drift out (watch this space). Forging forward many of the control cables are fitted and things are really starting to take shape. I currently am having trouble getting the Gudgeon pin through the new small end bush but once rectify the barrel and piston can be fitted. The next steps are to get the the barrel on and the new valves lapped in and fitted......
  3. Thanks gents, much appreciated! Free coffee and donuts, I’m sold!!
  4. Perfect! Cheers Ron. Out of curiosity has anyone ever ordered from this site? That valve looks like just the job!
  5. Things have been a little slow this week whilst work remains crazy busy. I am slowly buying a few last parts for the engine build but cannot for the life of me find the exhaust value dimensions, I think the head should be approx. 40mm in diameter, but I am not sure of the length, can anyone varify, please?
  6. That’s seams quite excessive Ron, even for a Triumph 😂
  7. Perfect. Thanks Ron. The machinist thought maybe 4 thou but I thought I double check first. I have also provided him with the piston so he can work back front that.
  8. So I have dropped off the last of the engine parts to be vapour blasted and cleaned. The newly refurbed barrel is also being bored to +20 with a NOS piston to be fitted. Remind me gents, what are the figures/tolerances the barrel should be bored to, please?
  9. Looks good Ron, another job well done! I just had to share these photos, yet another gift to myself! I am super happy about finding this little gem. The lense is damaged but I am sure that can be fixed! 🙂
  10. Thanks gents! Really helpful! Ron, more photos to follow shortly 😉
  11. A bit of advice folks..... I have stripped the rocker cover down and noticed there one of the rocker arms had excess lateral movement. On closer inspection it appears the outer bush is worn and the arm has started rubbing the inner casing. How easy are the bushes to remove and replace? I cannot see how to get any type of tool inside the bush to remove it?
  12. Different in height to Ron? I assume they accepted the same battery?
  13. Thanks Ron yes it is. I thought long and hard about including it as I did not want to impede the exit of the gases but the repair is now belt and braces with hopefully 0 chance of leaking/ recurrence of damage. I polished back the inner section of the sleeved tube and took the step away which I hope will help 🤞 I was feeling creative yesterday, I also made this......
  14. Progress was a little slow last week but a few more jobs ticked off...I am hoping the repair to the exhaust flange is the last bit of welding.......
  15. Thanks gents! The job is no way perfect but a vast improvement, it was in a bit of a mess before hand, I am glad I have tackled the job, I just need to have the barrel bored out now then it can be fitted!
  16. I have given it a good go, in the end after buying an expensive brazing touch I ended up welding the repairs, heating both the barrel and new section of metal both before and after. A few imperfections but pretty solid 🤞........time will tell but never again!
  17. I am going down the brazing route. But it takes a knack to get the heat into the metal and brazing rod. Once the braze is grinder back if it’s not adhered 100% it leaves a weak area and the job starts again. I have to say this barrel is abnormally damaged, but I will keep plodding away.....
  18. The barrel is now back from the blasters and there are several cooling fins to be repaired. I have started the process but it’s much harder than I anticipated....... I shall keep plodding on....here’s hoping.
  19. It’s certainly a strange head. I cannot seem to find any information about it, most other Matchless heads do no appear to have the exhaust spigot. Small steps this week, the barrel has gone to the blasters, I have decided to have a go myself at repairing the broken fins.....😬 Now that the crank breather pipe has arrived and fitted I can start building up the drive side of the engine.
  20. So a quick question that’s causing me to scratch my head more than normal.....I have a G3 head which fits perfectly to the G3 barrel which I have ready. I purchased a second head, which to the untrained eye looks identical, however when this second head is mounted to the barrel although the bolt pattern lines up, the shape and fins do not line up correctly....I have added some pictures......the head on the left fits correctly the one on the right doesn’t but it still has the exhaust spigot as the G3........I guess my question is we’re there different versions and is it even from a Matchless, maybe AJS?
  21. Brilliant, Cheers chaps, thought I’d best ask 😉
  22. So I have managed to get a good day on the built yesterday with a few nice jobs now completed. There’s always a set back with each build and this resto is no acceptation, I missed out a spacer on the drive side of the gearbox meaning I had excess side to side play. The gearbox has been stripped again to rectify the issue but I am happy to report it’s now back together! (Correctly) I am missing the crank shaft breather pipe so before going to far with adding bits to the drive side I need to source one. the throttle twist grip is now nicely set up and ready to go. I managed to save the original rubber grip and replace it with a new repro one. I noticed when I took off the old grip that there was signs of service paint underneath, funnily enough the twist grip clamps, purchased from a different source, was also painted. With this in mind should the clamp be painted?
