Next step is roundels thinking of just the one on the front mudguard seen a substantial amount of raf Nortons with the roundel on the front guard both solos and sidecar combinations like mine. + the wartime number and no Norton logo. 1 picture with the wartime norton logo an the roundel on the tank. Emotional moment seeing her original Raf number an the roundels starting to go on! They have really dried back since these pictures an are a superb deep dull matt! I'll get the camera out tomorrow an take some propper pics. Thanks again to everyone who's been giving me advice Got into the engine tonight an shes had a new oil pump at some point an it all looked pretty good bar one bit of damage to the timing cover that I've gotta look at fixing. Norton.rider Posted May 1, 2020 Author Share Posted May 1, 2020 Gonna be some progress this weekend:) Ended up with two covers an some other parts small stuff like screws an oil line parts + fuel line an stuff. Hoping to get the better of the two covers fitted tomorrow then the mag. Here's a picture of the current levers I've got for her. Got some Dianese leathers hopefully being collected next week no people can pick some stuff up an then I can carry on with the restoration. Got the carb left to sort (throttle slide was damaged an a big 4 item) Need to tap the levers through to take the new 1ba bolts. An fit the oil tank an chain oh an time the engine an do the wiring itching to get stuck in again. Norton.rider Posted June 22, 2020 Author Share Posted June 22, 2020 (edited) Success everyone got the lever screws sorted thanks to Nick for some advice on them ended up with 2ba x 3/4inch which fit pretty much perfectly just had to trim the length down a bit an go in an out a handful of times by hand. Next thing to sort is a throttle slide for the carb an to try clean the inside of the carb body up. Anyone used the slides from amal in an original carb? Norton.rider Posted October 30, 2020 Author Share Posted October 30, 2020 Lil bit of progress today Decided to refit the rear mudguard supports that I've got for now to save a lil bit of funds towards getting her running. It's an earlier setup that's missing the top rack. Hoping in the future to get the late type carrier and a set of pannier frames with the correct pillon seat when funds are a bit better. As they say Rome wasn't built in a day. Got it nice n central as well onceII sorted one of the stays. Gonna fit the new chain tomorrow, canvas grips, n repair the oil lines for the oil tank while retaining the brass fitments hopefully, also wanna swish the oil tank out as well ready for fitting. Wanna try get a 44' oil tank as well at some point. Need to paint the mcr1 box as well an the rear brake arm forgot about those. Next things to order is some wiring to make a loom. Something relatively affordable that I can be getting on with need to get a new timing guage as well so if anyone's got any recommendations for good ones brand wise lemme know Next step is to get a carb or send this one I've got to be fixed gonna work out the cost of both options. Gonna service my original fuel taps tomorrow as well n get those fitted onto the bike. Apart from those bits remaining on the list of stuff to get as funds allow. Skid plate 1944 ribbed oil tank Rear late type carrier Rear pannier frames Rear pannier bags Fluted glass for the blackout Rear seat Field stand Rear brake arm for pannier setup Vokes She will soon hopefully be ready to rock which will be exciting really cant wait for the first start up n ride once we are allowed out again. Norton.rider Posted October 30, 2020 Author Share Posted October 30, 2020 Was thinking of taking the blanking nut out above the piston on the head Ron and using a a clip on attachment to hold it got getting the timing bang on, used them on two strokes used a degree wheel on my 650ss after finding top dead centre but thought a dti could be a cool idea gotta do the timing on my 68 Commando to once I've got the engine back together know the markings were out on the chain case on the Commando so wanna try mark some accurate ones an used them on my two strokes in the past rd350lc etc an used to use them back in print checking run out on cylinders and stuff. wanna get some better micrometers to at some point.
